Chapter 83: Chapter 83: It’s You Who Doesn’t Trust Me

###Chapter 83: You’re the One Who Doesn’t Trust Me

Nina Wainwright saw the familiar suede pouch on a table behind the stage.

’So, the ring he spent over thirty million on was for Luna Sterling.’

"Zach, thank you for getting this ring for me... I really, really love it." Amid the chorus of congratulations, Luna Sterling’s voice reached Nina Wainwright’s ears.

"Do you know what today is?" Caleb Ford’s voice sounded from behind Nina.

Nina didn’t answer, her gaze fixed on Zachary Hawthorne on the distant stage.

"This is a special day for Zach. It was on this day that he realized his true feelings. So, it’s a very meaningful day for him and for Luna. You only got to celebrate your first and second anniversaries with him because Luna hadn’t come back yet. But your wedding anniversary also happens to be the day he misses Luna the most." Caleb spoke slowly, as if he were just telling a story.

The hand at Nina’s side clenched for a moment, and then she turned and walked away.

She reached the hotel entrance and was about to call for a car when a hand seized her wrist.

The familiar touch... She knew who it was without even turning around.

Zachary Hawthorne stepped in front of her, blocking her path. "Did you dress like that and sneak over here to confirm something? You said you’d make me drinks at home to celebrate our anniversary. Was that a lie, too?" fгeewebnovёl.com

The wind blew through Nina’s hair.

She looked up at Zachary, a smile on her lips. "That’s right. I wanted to see just how lovey-dovey you are with your one true love. Now I’ve seen it, and now I know."

"Are we still celebrating our anniversary?" Zachary asked, frowning.

"Let’s talk about it at home. You should focus on what’s happening here first. Don’t disappoint the beautifully dressed Luna Sterling," Nina said. She knew Zachary and Luna shared a dramatic history.

She had vaguely heard that Zachary had once been in an accident, and during that crisis, Luna had saved him, disregarding her own safety.

That was why he fell so deeply in love with her.

Later, when he was about to propose, Luna went abroad. He was filled with resentment and disappointment and married me in a fit of pique...

Only now did Nina understand. Time could not keep them apart, nor could it diminish Zachary’s love for Luna.

’All along... I was the biggest fool for thinking I could ever replace Luna in his heart.’

"Nina... Do you have to be like this?" Zachary truly hadn’t expected Nina to show up here.

He had just asked Luna about it.

Luna told him that Nina had seen the diamond ring he’d bought and asked what it was for... which was what suddenly prompted her to bring up their wedding anniversary.

Zachary believed she had come to catch him in the act, looking for evidence to use in a divorce.

"What do you mean, ’be like this’? You pushed our anniversary aside to celebrate with her first—"

"It’s obvious you only brought up our anniversary because you knew I was giving her a gift! You’ve been fighting with me constantly, not giving a damn about our so-called anniversary. Asking me about it at the last minute was just your way of testing me," Zachary cut her off impatiently.

Nina stared at him in silence, then after a long moment, she laughed. "So that’s what you think."

’So... the fact that I brought up our anniversary the past two years was negligible to him. But bringing it up this year means I’m testing him?’

Nina didn’t know what lies Luna had told Zachary, but she understood one thing clearly: everything about Luna was important to him, even though they had broken up, even though he was married to her.

And yet, they still had an anniversary for when they first started dating.

He spent over thirty million on a diamond ring for Luna, yet he hadn’t prepared any gift for their own wedding anniversary.

The past two years, he only bought a gift because she brought it up... This year, Luna was back, so what should have been hers was given to Luna instead.

"Is that what I think? Or is it that your own actions are infuriating?" Zachary said, suppressing his anger.

Just as Nina was about to speak, Luna walked over, looking at her apologetically. "I didn’t know today was your wedding anniversary, otherwise I never would have asked him to come... I’m so sorry."

"You came to my house. My housekeeper saw you. What act are you trying to put on?" Nina was certain now.

Luna had planned tonight’s whole spectacle. It was an open declaration of war.

But Nina didn’t care anymore, and she had no intention of playing along with her act. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"Nina Wainwright, watch your mouth," Zachary warned coldly.

He always used her full name when he was angry.

Nina shot him a cold glance, then walked around the two of them and left.

Seeing that Zachary was about to go after her, Luna quickly grabbed his arm. "Zach... you promised me. You said you’d stay with me for two hours."

"Nina, no one has wronged you, and no one is putting on an act! From start to finish, you’re the one who doesn’t trust me!" Zachary didn’t chase after her, instead calling out coldly from behind.

Things between them had come to this. On their anniversary, she acted so indifferent, and Zachary understood then that she was no longer the Nina who only had eyes for him.

Her mind was on Adrian Pemberton and his injured hand, and she was exchanging flirty glances with the young owner of that bar.

Someone had even sent photos to his phone...

"That’s right! Since Luna came back, what have you done that should make me trust you? Zachary, you’re the one who shattered the trust between us! Don’t blame everything on me. I’ll say it again: if you’re not happy, then let’s get a divorce. I’m not the one trapping you. You’re just trying to have your cake and eat it too!" Nina said coldly, then quickly hailed a taxi, yanked open the door, and got in.

On their wedding anniversary, he was with his ex-girlfriend, his one true love, reminiscing about the day they started dating.

Was she supposed to graciously wish them well?

Zachary’s expression was grim.

Luna lowered her head and let go of his hand. "Forget it. You should go back and console her. I’m going abroad for a while tomorrow... She won’t be at ease with me here."

"I haven’t said anything. What are you worried about?" Zachary said before turning and walking back into the hotel.

As Luna turned to follow him, the corners of her lips curved into a smile.

She glanced back at the departing taxi, the smile on her face growing wider.

When Luna had first returned, she had been worried... worried that she couldn’t compete with the three years of their relationship.

’It seems I overestimated Nina,’ she thought. ’She’s all beauty, but she can’t hold on to Zachary’s heart.’

When Nina got home, she leaned against the door, gasping for breath.

’She’d at least had a sliver of hope today... thinking that if Zachary had said he still wanted to be with her, she would have slowly accepted it and stopped thinking about Luna.’

’So... Zachary’s plan was to celebrate Luna’s anniversary first, and then come home for their own unremarkable wedding anniversary.’

’It’s true, isn’t it? The person he spends his money on is the one he truly treasures.’

Nina didn’t care about his money, but she knew this was a hard-won lesson learned from the cautionary tales of many others.

She took off her makeup, showered in the bathroom, and immediately lay down on the bed. After everything that had happened today, she didn’t even have the heart to look at her mixology books.
