Chapter 616: Chapter 616: His Smile Was So Amiable
The house was located in the town in the suburbs of London. It was a farm. Quite close to nature.
Edie thought Noble didn’t look like a businessman. Instead, he looked like a man that loved to enjoy life. Otherwise, it was impossible for him to live a peaceful life here.
The house was not so big—pastoral style. An aunt was responsible for cooking for Cecil all these years.
After lunch, Noble invited Edie to their yard to enjoy the sunlight. It was still warm in England in winter.
Noble made her black tea. He poured a cup of tea for Edie and smiled slightly, "Black tea is good for your stomach. Gentle and sweet. Try it."
Edie took a sip. Indeed, it was good.
"You...are a little different than I’ve imagined," Edie said.
"Different? Why?"
"You don’t look like a businessman...."
"Why do you think so?" Noble looked curious.
"I think all businessmen look smart. Different from them, you look more like...an artist. A relaxing and comfortable artist that knows to enjoy life." She said and burst into laughter.
Noble also smiled. His smile was so amiable.
Then he said,
"Actually, I hankered for fame and money when I was young. But, as time went by, and I grew older, it became much easier for me to accept life and learn to enjoy it. When you are my age, you would also understand such a feeling. I am just curious. What do you think of me? In your opinion, whether I am a good guy or a bad guy?"
"What?"
Edie didn’t expect this question. She froze.
It was really difficult to define these terms. What kind of guy could be defined as a good guy or a bad guy?
She couldn’t find the answer immediately.
"What do you think?" She asked.
Noble took a sip of the black tea. The cup touched the dish, making a slight cracking sound.
He looked at the plants in the yard and smiled, "Sometimes I think I am bad, but sometimes I believe I am a good guy. Good guys might need to do something bad, while bad guys might need to do something good sometimes. What if you found what you’ve seen was false?"
"What are you talking about, uncle?"
Edie didn’t know what he meant. But she thought he might want to tell her something.
Noble knew she couldn’t understand him. He smiled, "I am kidding. Don’t take it seriously. What do you think of Stuart? Is he a good guy or bad?"
"Good....maybe."
She was not certain. A bad feeling started to trap her. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Such a heavy topic made it hard for her to think deeply.
"You might be right. I have something to do this afternoon. Please take care of Cecil for me, could you? I’ve told the vice president. You would stay at my house for several days to help me look after Cecil."
"Dad, you can go now. I want to stay with my pretty girl alone now." Cecil said excitedly.
"Don’t forget to make him hungry if he was naughty," Noble told Edie and then left.
"Holy crap. Is he really my dad? I always suspect that." Cecil stared at him and then turned toward Edie happily. He held the corner of Edie’s clothes and started begging, "Edie, could you make a cookie for me? We can take some to Arther. Okay?"
"Miss your master now?"
"Well, I don’t think so. I visited him yesterday. But his housekeeper told me that he’d made a mistake. Now he was punished by his grandpa. He was badly injured now. He might have to stay on the bed for several days. I felt sorry for him. After all, he was my boy. I need to take care of him. I don’t want him to be sad," Cecil smiled and said.
Cecil was concerned about Arther. But he didn’t want to say it directly.
Edie understood him. She didn’t say it out, either. She made more cookies and arrived downtown in one hour.
Arther lived in a marvelous castle, with a forest behind. It looked quite ancient.
When they got off the car and stood in front of the castle, they all felt the solemn breath.
Apparently, Cecil came here before. Two well-trained soldiers were standing at the door. When seeing him, they immediately reported to their master. Soon, they returned back.
But no one opened the door for them.
Arther walked out.
He looked so pale. He was injured, obviously. He frowned. His eyes looked depressed.
Standing in front of the iron door, he said, "My slave, what are you doing here?"
"What...what happened to you? Did your grandpa beat you again?"
When seeing Arther, Cecil was really shocked. He wanted to rush to him to take a close look but the iron door stopped him
It was an electrical door...
The electrified wire netting covered the whole mansion. Besides, Edie found monitors everywhere. Even the RC airplane was used to monitor everything happening on the ground.
"None of your business. You can leave now."
Arther said in an indifferent voice.
"My master, please don’t die. What can I do if you die? I would lose my snacks forever," Cecil burst into tears.
Edie couldn’t help herself rolling her eyes.
Baby, do you realize what you were doing here?
Did you even know how to comfort others?
She covered his mouth immediately and said, "He missed you. He was so worried about you. He asked me to make some cookies for you. He didn’t want you to starve. So he begged me to make this. He helped me shape these cookies. See all animals. It took him quite a long time."
She passed the cookies to him. Arther took it.
Looking at Edie and Cecil for a while in silence, he said, "Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for taking care of my salve. When I recovered, I would visit you. I promise."
Then, he turned around and left.
Looking at Arther’s back, Cecil suddenly wanted to cry out. He held Edie’s hands tightly and said, "Edie, why do I feel...that Arther looked so lonely and hopeless at this moment?"
Edie looked at that little boy’s back. She had the same feeling.
Why did he look so sad and depressed?
Was this common among kids in big families?
What would her own baby look like in the future? Would he be happy?
Edie held Cecil’s hands and tried to comfort him, "let’s go. Arther already promised to you that he would come to you."
"Okay."
He turned around reluctantly and walked away with Edie.
At that moment, they heard the loud noise from the sky. It was a helicopter. A huge shadow covered them.
The helicopter flew above them and landed on the field in front of the castle.
Gosh.
So incredible.
As the helicopter landed, the door was opened. A man in a military uniform with a pair of sunglasses walked out slowly. He randomly buckled the belt. Then, he saw Edie and Cecil through his green sunglasses.
"Are you Arther’s friends?" the man asked them in an unfriendly voice.
Edie nodded. The man looked like a powerful man here. He might be related to Arther.
"Oh. My little brother’s friend. Why don’t you come in? Come in."
The man said in an indifferent voice, and then he walked towards the door.
Inside the mansion were several groups of soldiers. They were standing in two rows and made way for the man, "Salute."
Cecil was so shocked. He never saw such a scene. Edie also froze. It was just a man. Why did they need to do this?
