Chapter 504: Chapter 504: A Foolish Oath
Wasn’t her obligation to care about her son? But now she made it a condition to trade with another woman. This sounded really wired for Edie.
But Bette didn’t feel anything wrong, "yes, as long as you stop him, I would resign my post as the vice president and leave him to take over the group. I would also try the best to be a good mother."
Edie was too shocked by these words that she forgot to reply.
Better continued, "Moreover, this is not a joke. If Stuart keeps doing this, he will ruin his reputation. Blind competition is the worst in the business. Stuart’s taking great risk to revenge. Do you really want him to destroy himself?"
"Of course, no."
Edie answered immediately, without any hesitation.
"Then, cooperate with me," Bette laid back. Her voice sounded a little idle. Apparently, she believed Edie would definitely agree with the proposition.
"Okay, don’t forget what you’ve promised." Edie nodded firmly and then left.
After Edie returned back in the car, Ivan asked, "Is she okay?"
"Ivan, is it cutthroat competition in business?"
"To be exact, yes." Ivan nodded.
"What’s the consequence?" Edie asked. Her heart started trembling.
"CEO might...lose all standing and reputation..."
Lose all standing and reputation...
Edie felt her heart missed a beat. She didn’t expect such deadly consequences.
She knew Stuart. He never did anything too risky for him. He must already develop the solution.
But she couldn’t help herself worrying about him.
These are scandals of the Yates. She was not sure whether Stuart could keep rationality as usual.
She thought Stuart was like a god that could handle everything. But now she generally realized he was nothing more than a common person with emotion. Sometimes, he might be fragile.
He also made mistakes.
"Why do you still help him do this?" She asked anxiously.
Ivan forced a smile, "I couldn’t go against his order. If I do so, he will punish me anyway, no matter whether you would bear the consequence or not."
"Ivan, I guarantee with my life. I will be struck by lightning and split into two halves if you get hurt because of me."
She was so worried that she started making a foolish oath, "besides, the vice president told me that his behavior already arouses resentment among the board of directors. You don’t want to see this, do you?"
"But, president...."
"Let me handle this, okay?" Edie begged.
Looking at Edie’s little face, Ivan fell into silence.
After quite a while, Ivan finally forced a smile, "Okay, I would help you. I couldn’t go against the order of you both. God bless, I could survive."
"You would. You would be safe, I promise."
Edie padded his chest and guaranteed.
Ivan’s answer set Edie’s mind at rest.
When she returned back to the ward, Mr. Bates left, leaving the room to the couple.
Edie sat by the bed, holding the man’s hands rightly. He looked like he was feeling her. His finger curved a little bit and held her hands.
She was delirious with joy.
"Stuart, you’ve woken up, right?"
But the man on the bed didn’t open his eyes.
She sighed in disappointment, "I’ve promised to the vice president. You wouldn’t quarrel with each other anymore. You don’t have to get drunk or run through the red light to numb yourself. You could do whatever you want after waking up, as long as you are fine.
She spent a day and a night with him.

At the same time, Bette appeared in Bayer’s ward in another hospital.
Bayer woke up this afternoon. Bette immediately rushed here after hearing the message.
"Bette..." Seeing the woman, he made a light smile. Realizing he was still alive, he felt lost and joyful.
"I remember you are allergic to pollen, so I bought dried flowers. They are also quite beautiful." She put them into vases.
"Indeed, quite beautiful." Bayer smiled.
"I’ve investigated. It is Carey, right? I didn’t expect it. She...is in France."
"Yes, I got the clue in A and found her. She’s in poor condition, so I stay in the hospital to take care of her. Where’s she now? Has she returned back to A? Did she threaten you?" freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"No, I don’t know where she is now. But no bad news. Don’t worry. Just take good rest," Bette smiled. The atmosphere was eased.
"Bette... about....marrying me...."
Bette was a little astonished. But her beautiful face remained the same.
"I mean it."
"No. I mean...don’t say this again. This time I want to reject you. We don’t have to change anything. I like what we have now. You don’t need to feel guilty. I’ve made lots of mistakes in my life. It is time for redemption. You love Alexander, and I love you. Both of us couldn’t get what we love. I don’t require anything more. All I want is to protect you and what you have for you. I feel satisfied."
"But... I’ve been ready to quit the job."
She exhaled deeply.
"For Stuart?" Bayer was quite clever and knew her, "you’ve made the right decision. You’ve been in the position for quite a long time. It has been a long time since you laughed last time."
"I am fine. It is my responsibility. What about you? Are you gonna go back to A?" Bette sighed slightly and asked gently.
"I planned to take a vacation, a long vacation this time."
"Okay, I would see you off when you leave. When you come back, I would pick you up."
She smiled, looking at his eyes, gently.
Though the man totally changed in appearance, the feeling remained the same.
He was gentle, learned, and refined, with passion.
The first time she met with him, she didn’t feel anything for this man. She didn’t hate him nor like him. Because in her mind, he was not sharp enough.
She was the butterfly seeking after the strong, based on personality charm rather than family background.
So, she found Alexander Yates, the man she looked for many years.
She never regretted, neither did he.
After waiting for years, he finally got the answer. He felt satisfied.
