Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Are You Sleeping With Me Tonight?
Stuart stood still, almost breathless with anger. The anger flared in his eyes as he glared at Cecil. He was stuck between the woman he loved and the little boy he despised. ’I’ve had enough of this boy. Beat him! Teach him a lesson!’ His thoughts wouldn’t leave him alone. They paralyzed him. He couldn’t move. He couldn’t control them, and he didn’t want to.
Edie started to laugh, and her eyes sparkled merrily. "Now you sound like an adult. Is there nothing in you that is a child?" she joked.
Cecil waited for Edie to turn her head. Then he looked at Stuart with a spiteful grin on his face. "Are you sleeping with me tonight?" he asked.
Edie rubbed the top of his head and said, "Yes, I made you a promise."
Cecil leaned forward and put his hands on Edie’s face. He was just about to give her a kiss on the lips when she turned her head slightly. Stuart was furious. He could no longer control emotions. The anger surged through him. He quickly took two steps forward. He grabbed Cecil by the back of the neck and lifted him off the bed with one hand. "Help me! He’s hurting me!" Cecil cried out. His arms and legs flailed as he struggled against Stuart’s grip.
Edie rushed over to him in a panic. "What do you think you’re going? Put him down, now!" she said, her voice rising with each word she spoke.
Stuart turned around slowly, his brow furrowed, eyes demanding an answer to his unspoken question. ’What the hell is wrong with you? Do you not see what this child is doing?’
Stuart loosened his grip as he lowered Cecil to the bed. Edie scooped him into her arms. "Are you hurt?" she asked, a tremor in her voice.
Pretending to be frightened, Cecil quickly got up and hid behind Edie. "I don’t like how he looks at me. He scares me," he said and peeked around the side of her leg to look at Stuart. Then he grinned, a devious light coming to his eyes.
Edie turned to Stuart. "It’s late. Go to the bedroom and wait for me," she said, and for the first time, there was a cold tone in her voice.
There was a throb of emotion in her words that made Stuart cringe in shock. ’She’s never spoken to me in that manner before.’
"I’m going to change Stuart’s dressing, and when I’m finished, I’ll come back. Okay?" While Edie was talking to Cecil, she grabbed Stuart’s hand and led him to the door. Stuart looked back at him. Cecil rolled his eyes, smiled, and stuck his tongue out at him, which infuriated Stuart even more.
By the time they got to the bedroom, Edie had her emotions under control, but there was still a knot in the pit of her stomach. After five minutes of silence, she finally spoke. "Your wound was healing good, but when you lifted....." She let a sigh and continued, "Cecil up, and it opened a little."
Stuart slid an arm around her waist, eager to get closer to her. "I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with this," he says against her hair, his voice muffled. "Will you sleep with me tomorrow?" he asked his eyes, begging for her to say yes.
Edie wondered, feeling unnerved by his attitude. She could sense his sullen mood. Then the seriousness of the moment turned to amusement. She couldn’t help laughing out loud at the thought. "You’re jealous? Aren’t you? He’s only a child...." she laughed. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Stuart interrupted her. "You’re spending all your time with him. When you should be with me!" he said in a commanding voice.
Edie looks at him questionably and leans down to whisper in his ear. "There’s no need for you to be jealous. I know you dislike Cecil, but getting angry serves no purpose. It only makes things worse. Besides, what are you going to do when we have children? Will you treat them the same way?" She smiled and put her hand on his chest. She warmed as she contacted the smooth heat of his bare skin, the wiry curls that dusted his chest. Her heart tightened when Stuart moved. "Stay still. I’m worried about your wound," she muttered nervously.
"I don’t want children. I want to keep you all to myself." His deep voice was firm and commanding.
Edie knew Stuart would change his mind about not wanting children. It was only because of Cecil. She looked into his eyes and read his true feelings, and her heart warmed. "I have to go now. Is that okay?" she asked. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Stuart’s eyes were fierce and narrow as his mouth. "No!" he replied sternly. Then he lowered his voice when he looked at her. "I don’t want you to go."
Edie patted his chest in a familiar gesture he was growing to like. "I know how stubborn you can be." She sounded a little bit like she was appeasing him.
Stuart slightly raised his voice. "What did you say?" His voice sounded disgruntled as he asked her.
"I know how narrow-minded you can be, but you have always given me the space that I’ve needed. And every time when I needed you, you were there." Edie’s voice flowed over him like warm water, relaxing the tension in his body. "I gave you the space you needed when Hick’s arrived. It wasn’t easy, but I knew it was something I had to do. You spoil me, and at times I know I can be selfish..." She paused, reluctant to finish her sentence. "Maybe I don’t tell you enough how much I love and respect you. All the times you were alone with Hicks, I was afraid you would choose her over me. I did all I could to keep myself from losing control of my thoughts of you having an affair. I remained calm and tried my best not to be jealous. I did it for you because I believe in you."
Stuart sat back on the bed, shocked speechless. This was the first time she had spoken so candidly about their relationship. The room went silent while Stuart held her in his arms. After several minutes passed by, he finally spoke, "Did you say this because of Cecil? Why are you suddenly telling me how you’ve felt all this time?"
Edie shook her head. "No, it’s not because of him. I’ve always wanted to tell you, but I just didn’t know-how. We simply need to learn the art of communicating as a married couple." Her face was red with shyness. Her eyes were bright with happiness.
Stuart stared at her, at that face, that beauty that never failed to make his heart leap. She was the woman he loved.
