Chapter 393: Chapter 393: Can You Hear Me?
As they walked around, Stuart said, "It’s your day. What do you want to do?"
Stuart turned to face her. Edie’s eyes were shining with excitement. "I can go anywhere or do anything?"
Stuart nodded his head. He allowed himself to be helpless before her. He was going to let her do whatever she wanted to do. "What did you have in mind?" Stuart asked.
"There’s so much to do. I don’t know where to go first," Edie said anxiously. Europe was filled with famous architecture, hundreds of shops to wander through, dozens of restaurants, and thousands of years of history.
They spent hours touring Europe, visiting museums, markets, shops, and even took a bike tour around the city. As they sat in one of the cafes, Stuart couldn’t take his eyes off her. Then suddenly he thought of something. "You know what’s the best thing about being in a foreign country?" He seemed to laugh but looked at her with a curious intensity.
"No! What is it?" Edie propped her chin in her hand with her elbow on the edge of the table. She gave him her undivided attention.
Stuart gave her an honest look and said, "We don’t have to worry about the paparazzi."
"Thank God," Edie giggled. freewebnøvel.com
"Where next?" Stuart was still looking at her rather curiously, humor curling his mouth.
Edie displayed a questionable expression before speaking. "Shopping mall?" Of course, Stuart would agree it was her day. As they wandered through a shopping mall, Stuart spotted a movie theater.
"Would you like to see a movie?" Stuart leaned in, whispering in her ear.
Edie smiled, and Stuart slid an arm around her waist. "It’s French, and there aren’t any subtitles," she said, sounding a little discouraged.
Stuart could hear the disappointment in her voice. "No problem! I’ll tell you what they’re saying," he said. The movie was a love story, and as Stuart translated the words to Edie, she felt her heart beating faster and faster.
"This is the first time we’ve ever been in a foreign country, and the first time we’ve seen a movie together," Edie mumbled under her breath. ’
Stuart turned to look at Edie and noticed she was watching him instead of the movie. "Why aren’t you watching the movie?" he asked with a confused expression on his face. "Can you hear me?"
"Shhhhh," several people in the theater spoke out.
Stuart lowered his voice so low that Edie could see him barely. Her eyes narrowed, her bottom lip twitched intermittently as her teeth unconsciously dug into the soft back of her lip. She couldn’t hear Stuart when he spoke to her, and she had no idea what was going on. Stuart could tell by Edie’s facial expression, she was upset. He leaned as close as he could and whispered in her ear, "He just told her how much he loves her." The low, sexy tone of his voice had tiny little shivers moving down her spine. She could feel her heart beating even faster.
Then Stuart continues to translate the next scenes in the movie. Edie had a puzzled expression on her face and can’t help thinking why Stuart didn’t tell her how much he loved her. She waited throughout the whole movie waiting for him to say something to her. The next thing she knew, the movie credits were showing, and the lights had turned on.
Edie could feel her face flushing warmer and warmer. Stuart looked at her, his eyes narrowed. "Are you feeling okay?" he asked with a concerned tone in his voice. Then he put his hand on her forehead. "You don’t feel hot, but your face is really red. What’s wrong?"
Edie sagged with disappointment. This wasn’t at all what she expected. ’This was supposed to be romantic. Why didn’t he whisper sweet nothings in my ear?’ she thought, feeling discouraged. She never said a word about what she felt because she was too embarrassed.
Stuart looked at her with a puzzled expression on his face. "What did I do? Why is your face so red?" he said, eyeing her curiously.
Edie looked at him, bewilderment written across his face. She didn’t know if she should laugh or get angry. Sighing, she rested on the back of the seat and added, "Never mind. I’m hungry. Can we get something to eat?"
They left and walked across the street to an elegant restaurant offering delicious French cuisine. Inside there was even someone playing the piano. Edie’s face returned to normal, but during the meal, neither one of them said too much to one another.
After finishing the meal, Stuart got up from the table and replied, "Wait for me. I won’t be very long."
Then shortly after, a waitress came toward her with a dozen roses. "These are for you," she said.
Edie was quite surprised. She didn’t know if she should take it or not. She tilted her head and asked. "Who are they from?"
The waitress pointed to the piano and said, "Him!" Then she placed the roses in Edie’s arms.
Edie turned and saw Stuart sitting at the piano. She couldn’t take her eyes off him. His eyes, intelligent, intense and thoughtful, seemed to look through her, into her. "This song is for my wife," he said in a low, soft voice marked by an intensity he had never shown.
The song he played was called ’Do You’ by Mr. Fermon. He created this song for his wife to ask for her hand in marriage. Stuart placed his hands on the piano and began to play. His slender fingers are lithely speeding across the keys, trilling out soulful notes. The notes that seemed to touch one’s heart and truly make it sing.
Edie bursts into tears of happiness, crying at the most beautiful experience by far of her whole life. After Stuart was finished, the people in the restaurant gave him a huge round of applause. As Edie walks toward him, he takes a red box out of his pocket. Edie stopped immediately. ’Is he going to propose to me in front of these people?’ she wondered. She slowly walked toward him, her heart beating faster with each step she took.
Edie’s heart was filled with so much joy that she thought she might burst with happiness. She smiled at Stuart, and her eyes twinkled. "What....is it?" she asked as her voice slightly quivered.
Stuart passed it to her. "It’s for you! Open it," he said, his voice sounded normal.
Edie didn’t understand. She looked at Stuart, waiting for him to say the right words. "You want me to open it?" She raised an eyebrow curiously. ’Stuart should be down one knee.’ Everything kept going out of focus as her thoughts kept returning to the fact that Stuart wasn’t doing it right. "Aren’t you supposed to open....it?" She was a little hesitant when she noticed all the people’s eyes in the room were on her and Stuart.
