Chapter 388: Chapter 388: I Have To Find Out The Truth

Edie wanted desperately to tell Stuart what Wilson told her. But without any details or evidence, how could she? ’What if he was lying?’ she thought to herself. Her mind began to wander again. ’I can’t mention anything to Stuart until I know for sure. I have to find out the truth.’ She looked at Stuart with a worried expression on her face. "What are you going to do to Aaron?" she asked.

Stuart narrowed his eyes curiously. "After all he’s done to you, why are you so concerned about him? I told you I wouldn’t hurt him."

He was looking at Edie’s eyes filled with expectation. Stuart didn’t want to disappoint her. His face reddened and swelled up with anger, but he couldn’t let her see him like this. ’Aaron put his hands on her, and he will pay for it,’ he couldn’t get this thought out of his mind. He took a deep breath and hid his anger behind a gentle smile. "Let’s go," he said.

When they arrived at the chateau, they were greeted by the guard. "You’re not welcome here," the guard said with a loud and husky voice.

"No, let them in," Wilson said as he walked toward the door. "Mr. Yates, Aaron has been expecting you."

Edie looked confused. "Why does he want to see Stuart? And how did he know we’d come?" she sounded a little shaken.

Wilson tried to force a smile on his face as he looked at Stuart’s cold face. "Aaron knows what he did, and when he found out Stuart survived, he knew it was only a matter of time before Stuart would come. So he’s been waiting for you."

"How is he?" Edie asked nervously.

"Still the same," Wilson said, with a sad smile that softened the twitching of the corners of his mouth. Stuart walked inside first, and Edie was behind him. Wilson gently grabbed her hand. Edie could see the fear in his eyes. "Please make sure nothing happens to Aaron," his mouth moved, shaping words, but no sound came out.

Edie understood every word Mr. Wilson was trying to say to her. She stopped, her thoughts totally scattered. ’Stuart did come here tonight to punish Aaron. What was he going to do to him, and why would he lie to me?’

Noticing that Edie was behind him, Stuart turned around and saw the look on her face. "What’s wrong?" he asked.

Edie found it difficult to keep the fear and the anxiety from her voice. "Stuart, you promised me. They must find another way to handle this matter instead of resorting to violence." Edie paused, taking a breath. "Yes, Aaron did a terrible thing, because he was forced to do it. You’re brothers, and the sooner you realize that then maybe you can begin to understand one another."

Stuart looked her all over with his clear measuring eye, and for some minutes, he was singularly silent. There was no bitterness in her eyes, just deep sadness. He felt his heart soften. He made a promise to her, and he had to keep it. "I did come here to punish him. I wanted to teach him a lesson." He suppressed his anger and replaced it with a gentle smile. "As you wish," he replied.

Edie’s pained, anxious expression gave way to happiness, her cheeks flushed, and tears of joy rolled down her face. "Thank you, Stuart," she said as she hugged him. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

They stepped into the house, and Edie looked around, admiring its beauty. She looked out the window and noticed the grapevines on a trellis. The vine hung full of sweet grapes. "It’s beautiful," she said, speaking with an excited voice.

Wilson abruptly stopped them. "Come with me, Mr. and Mr. Yates. Aaron is still resting. We’ll see you shortly. Would you mind waiting in here?" he asked.

Edie nodded as she watched Stuart disappear. "Mr. Wilson, would you tell me more about Marina’s death," she asked.

"I don’t remember talking to you about Marian," Wilson denied. His expression turned cold all of a sudden. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Edie looked at him with a shocked expression on her face. "Why are you trying to hide it from me?" Her eyes narrowed into a frown. "Is it because Aaron doesn’t want me to know the truth? Please, explain it to me. I need to understand."

"There’s nothing to explain. I don’t remember saying anything about Marina’s death. I’m sorry, but you must have misunderstood me. Aaron was the one who killed Marian." Edie could see it in his eyes. He was in emotional pain. ’I wish I could hear the truth about everything, but Aaron doesn’t want her to know. I don’t understand why he won’t tell her the truth? He didn’t do anything wrong.’ Wilson’s thoughts took him back to the day when he begged Aaron to tell Edie, but no matter how hard he tried. The harder Aaron fought back.

Edie knew he wasn’t telling the truth because he avoided making direct eye contact. She looked at Wilson and said with a concerned tone in her voice, "I know how worried you are about Aaron. Tell Stuart what you told me and put an end to all of this."

Wilson added with a bitter laugh. "You have no idea how complicated the situation is. Some people are destined to be enemies from birth. Aaron never wanted this life, but because of his mother, he had no choice. Many times, he wanted to live his own life, but his mother would only make him suffer."

"But Mr. Wilson....." Edie had so many questions to ask him, but he kept interrupting her.

Wilson sighed heavily and continued, "Aaron’s whole life has revolved around Stuart. If he were to give up now, his world would collapse."

A cold chill shot through Edie’s body with his words, "Stuart is Aaron’s reason for living?" she said questionably.

Mr. Wilson nodded his head in agreement. "Since they’ve fought against each other for so long, they know each other almost better than they know themselves. They’re more than enemies, but neither one of them will admit it," he explained.
