Chapter 365: Chapter 365: Where You Disappointed When You Lost Stuart?

"You’re back," Anne exclaimed. "Are you going to sit and eat with me," she cried in wild excitement.

Childe nodded his head and smiled. As he was walking toward Anne, he gently wrapped an arm around Edie’s waist and whispered in her ear, "Don’t say a word about our conversation to Anne." The tone in his voice showed no emotion, but was intense, penetrating the mind like an order that was impossible to disobey.

Anne looked at Edie with an innocent smile but didn’t say a word. It seemed she was used to Edie’s presence. Edie looked at Chile and gave him an annoyed look. ’Does he care about her? If so, why would he hurt her? Is he using her? Since the moment I woke up, he’s warned me not to hurt Anne. None of it makes any sense??’ Countless questions surged through her mind. She felt defeated and frustrated and ashamed of herself. There was a lot to think about, too many questions and not enough answers.

The three of them were sitting at the table, Edie was in a bad mood and had no appetite. Childe stopped eating long enough to say, "Eat."

Edie picked at her food. "I’m not very hungry," she said.

Childe frowned as he watched her. "Eat. Look at you. You’re too skinny. You need to take care of yourself."

"Why do you care if I eat or not?" Edie asked. She took a deep breath and forced down her anger. She clenched her teeth to hold back a scream and said out loud, "It’s none of your business anyways. I thought it would please you if I didn’t."

"None of my business," Childe said with an amused grin. "You’re Stuart’s wife and now part of the Yates’s family. We wouldn’t want people thinking you were unhealthy now, would we?" His head shook from side to side as a wry smile crossed his face.

Edie stared straight ahead for a moment, towards the window, not knowing what to say. She looked up into Childes’ wild eyes, blushing, embarrassed, she grew angry. "You’re such a ..."

Before Edie could finish her sentence, Childe interrupted her. "You know I’m right." He turns and looks at Anne and lowers his voice. "Don’t pay attention to Edie. She’s silly. You need to take care of your body. It’s important for your development, and skinny women don’t appeal to me, but a woman who is...."

Edie shouts out, "Aaron Yates." and covers Anne’s ears. "How dare you say such awful things to a child," she said, sounding disgusted. Edie glared at him angrily.

He smirked. "This is who I am, and I’m only getting started," he said. Edie shrugged him off, annoyed at his behavior, and gave him a cold stare. She rose and took Anne by the hand and left the table. "I rather like it. It’s quite funny," Childe said in his deep voice, sounding quite amused with himself.

Edie took Anne up to her room and let out a long sigh. "That man is so frustrating," she said.

"I think you and Childe make a good couple," Anne giggled.

Edie stared down at her with a puzzled look on her face, momentarily stunned speechless. "I’m married, Anne. Do you understand what that means?" she asked her.

"Married? Can’t you get a divorce?" Anne asked inquisitively. "Childe is a very kind and gentleman. If you married him, he would make you very happy," she said with sincerity in her voice.

Edie wondered if Anne understood the actual meaning of kind and gentle. "I’m his sister-in-law. Do you know what it means?" Edie asked curiously.

"You are his sister-in-law by chance and friends by choice, but you can be more than a sister-in-law to Childe," she replied. Anne was becoming a wise little girl, for she was profiting from her varied experiences and trying to learn the best way to take care of Childe.

Then Edie heard a sound and turned towards the door. It was Childe leaning against the wall. His sly smile suggested he had overheard their conversation. Edie shivered and turned away from his piercing glare. "Are you eavesdropping on us?" she asked, speaking low and trying to sound personal. Edie never saw him look at her the way he looked at her tonight. She felt completely caught off guard, naked under his penetrating gaze. She averted her eyes and cleared her throat. "It’s late, and we should be getting to bed." Her voice sounded as edgy and nervous as she felt.

Childe smirks, and he turns to look at Anne and says, "If it’s okay with you, You may have to sleep alone tonight because there’s something I need to discuss with Edie." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

Anne nodded and said, "Yes, it’s okay."

Childe tucked Anne in bed and said, "I’ll send one of the servants in to read you a story."

"Good night. I’ll see you in the morning," Anne said in a cheerful voice.

Edie inhaled a quick breath, gritted her teeth, then squeezed the words out. "Good night, Anne."

Childe takes Edie by the arm and leads her out of the room. The second the door closes, Edie pulls her arm away. She spun to face him, and anger edged her words. "What do you want from me?" Her brow knotted in confusion as she glared at him. "What’s so important that can’t wait until tomorrow," she asked.

Tossing his head back with a flair of arrogance, he gave a dry laugh and touched Edie’s cheek. "Sometimes a man and women, they have the same need-the same longing. Understand?" He pointed to her, then to himself.

Edie was scared, and she wanted to get away from Childe. She tried to run because she was afraid. But he held her wrist so she couldn’t get away. He picked her up and carried her into a room and gently laid her down the bed. She had never felt so afraid before. He heard her gasp and saw her eyes widen in alarm.

With a trembling voice, she asked, "What are you going to do to me?" As Edie was lying on the bed, she felt humiliated. All she could think about was Marina and what Childe did to her. ’I would rather die than have him put me through what he did to her.’ She kept saying it over and over in her head. Her eyes darted from side to side, looking around anxiously. "Please don’t hurt me," she cried out.

Childe looked her in the eye, wishing he could erase the fear he saw there, an emotion he wanted to wipe away. "I didn’t mean to frighten you. I was teasing. Can’t you take a joke?" He took a step back and said, "This is your room. I thought you were tired?"

Edie felt relieved, despite hearing the hollow note in Childes’ voice as he changed the subject back to her. She quickly stood up and paced up and down her bedroom, trying to feel brave, instead of scared and weepy. She wanted to run away and hide. She wished Stuart was there. Then as Childe turned to leave, Edie said, "Why did you kidnap me?" She glared at him. "And what are you going to do to Stuart?" She sounded calmer now, but her voice was still trembling.

Childe stopped and looked over his shoulder. "You will know when it’s time," His voice was cold and hard, anger sitting just beneath the surface.

Edie felt her heart speeding, beating out of control. She shook her head in disgust. "I have to put an end to his scheming," she muttered under her breath.
