Chapter 353: Chapter 353: Last Performance

Edie walked out of the cell with her head down, picking the straw off her clothes. "Here," Clyde said as he passed her the coffee that Vicky gave him.

She looked up, a little startled, and realized it was Clyde. Edie shakes her head. "Thanks, but I don’t think I should," she said.

"I can tell you haven’t had anything to drink today because your lips are dry." Clyde sounded worried. "You need something to drink."

"I have to check with Malloy first. I don’t know if any scenes need to be reshot," Edie explained. "You know how important this scene is. Mae was supposed to be dehydrated and....."

Clyde interrupts. "What do you think makeup is for?" he said, sounding angry. He puts the cup in her hand. "Drink it, or you’re going to get sick," he said and turned and walked away.

"His moods," Edie said, looking confused. "One minute he’s happy and the next he’s calm and the next he’s irritable." She put her hands up in the air. "What is up with him today."

As Clyde was walking away, Vicky grabbed his arm. She looked at him incredulously. "I made it for you, and you give it to her," She says as she points her finger in Edie’s direction.

"Did you not just say you made it for me?" Clyde asked.

Vicky’s eyes are red and heavy. She shakes her head and said, "Yes."

"Then why should it matter what I do with it?" There was boredom and impatience in his voice.

"Clyde Jackson," Vicky shouted. "You love her? Don’t you?"

Clyde bent down and looked her straight in the eye. "Yes, I do," he said as a grin appeared on his face. Then he left.

Vicky stood there, motionless and silent. After seconds crept by, she finally said. "Edie Lara, I will never allow you to have him."

A week later, it was finally the last performance for the movie, and when it was finished, the directors hosted a small party for the cast members.

"Clyde, I’m sorry to see you go. Even though we had some difficulty, it was a pleasure working with you." Malloy said as he raised his glass to make a toast.

Then Malloy held his glass up to give Edie a toast. "The beautiful Mae. What a performance. You worked hard, and I’m proud of you," he said. His voice was sounding very respectful.

Edie hesitated before taking a drink. Everyone was having some, so why shouldn’t she. After downing one glass, Edie felt relaxed and drank another one.

Clyde was getting a little worried about her. He touched her arm and said in a low voice, "You should think about slowing down. You know what will happen if you get drunk." A smirk appears on his face.

"What?" Edie said in a serious tone, after downing her third glass of liquor.

"I may have to carry you back to your room," Clyde said, whispering into her ear.

Edie giggles. "Don’t worry, and I know my limits. I’m like my mother in that sense." But she didn’t, after downing two more glasses. Her head began to spin.

"Okay," he said, knowing very well, Edie had too much to drink. "I’m like my mother too," Clyde’s eyes flashed as if there was something else in his mind.

"Clyde," Edie cried out, her vision completely blurred. "I think...I should...go back to the hotel." She stood up and staggered to the door. She drank so much that she couldn’t walk or talk a straight line.

Rhonda ran over to the door to help her. "Edie, you can’t go alone in the shape you’re in. I’ll go with you." frёeωebɳovel.com

Clyde rushed over to the door and held on to Edie’s arm. He waved his hand in the air. "Don’t worry, and I’ll take her. She’s staying next door to me," he told Rhonda. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

"I’m okay, he’ll....take....good care of me," Edie said, slurring her words.

Rhonda nodded. "Take good care of her," she said as she looked at Clyde.

"It’s not too far from here. We’ll be there in no time," Clyde said, trying to reassure Rhonda. Rhonda opened the door and watched them leave.

On their way back to the hotel, Clyde was thinking about something. Finally, he turned to Edie. "We’re leaving tomorrow and...." he hesitates, not knowing if he should tell her what’s on his mind. I don’t know when I’ll see you again." His tone was odd.

With Edie’s mind in a foggy haze, she didn’t notice the change in his tone. "It’s probably a good thing, and we won’t be seeing each other anymore. Anyways, you’re not the easiest person to get along with." She spoke in a quiet and solemn voice.

Clyde laughed and rolled his eyes. "If you weren’t so drunk, you probably wouldn’t be nice to me right now." His tone grew serious. "Do you ever think about your family?"

"My family? Do you mean Greg’s?" Edie’s eyes widened. "No, I don’t! Besides, only my grandpa cared about what happened to me." I’m doing just fine without them." She waves her hand in the air.

"What you must’ve gone through, the sorrows you must have endured and had no one to comfort you," Clyde turns his head, so Edie can’t see his face. A tear escaped down his cheek, and he quickly wiped it away. He shakes his head. "No, I’m not talking about Greg’s. The Lara family?" he replied, but Edie could sense a little bit of uncertainty in his voice as he said it. He paused and cleared his throat. You said you haven’t heard from Lara’s, aren’t you a little resentful towards them for not helping you?"

Edie suddenly stops and puts her finger on her chin, trying to wrap her brain around his words, but she was too intoxicated. "No," she said, shaking her head and almost losing her balance. "I mean they don’t even know I exist. Even though my mother had no communication with her family, she missed them very much." She paused, and tears filled her eyes. "She told me she would like to take me to meet them one day, but it never happened because she got sick. I have an image in my mind about what they’re like, and really that’s enough for me."

Clyde smiles bitterly at the first part of her sentence, but as she proceeds, he seems to analyze his past feelings. The rest of the walk back to the hotel, Clyde remained silent. Arriving at her door, he helped her open it. It was like it was his duty to make sure Edie arrived back safely. "Goodnight, I’ll see you tomorrow," he said and closed the door.

Edie laid down on the bed, completely exhausted, and suddenly there was a knock on the door. "Room service," the voice called out.

"Edie got up and staggered to the door. "What time is it anyway? Do you usually show up this late at night?" she asked, sounding confused. She opened the door without even thinking and said, "You may go. I don’t need anything." Two big strong men were standing there. Edie’s eyes widened in horror, and she took a quick step backward, away from the men, and tried to close the door. "What do you want from me," she screamed, but it was too late.
