Chapter 345: Chapter 345: You’re Not Being Nice To Me
Her mind was filled with a jumble of images. It kept going back to all the lies she told Stuart. She hated herself for taking refuge in lying, but she couldn’t think of another option. "I feel my life spinning out of control. I can’t continue doing this to Stuart," she kept saying it over and over again. Edie’s memory drifted back to their argument, and a deep sense of guilt overwhelmed her. After getting dressed, Edie walked into the kitchen to find Stuart having his breakfast. As she nears, she can’t help notice that he looks completely normal, as if nothing happened last night. Edie stuttered as she held her up her hands, "I....don’t..."
"Sit and have breakfast with me. I’ll take you to the filming base when you’re finished," Stuart said without looking at her.
Edie sat down, biting her lip, wanting to confide in Stuart. They ate in complete silence, causing Edie’s nervousness to build. After finishing her meal, she felt awkward. ’I’m so disgusted with myself for lying,’ she thought.
Stuart opened the car door for Edie, and she noticed Ivan was driving. "Good morning," she said.
"Good morning to you, Mrs. Yates," Ivan replied.
On their way to the base, again, there was nothing but silence between. Stuart opened his laptop and read a document, and Edie started to say something, then snapped her mouth shut. She looked off as if she was searching for the right words. ’I don’t know what to do? Should I tell him or maybe Stuart already knows? Does he?’ Edie’s thoughts were all over the place, and she couldn’t get a handle on any of them.
Arriving at the base, Edie opened her door, and there stood Clyde. "Are you feeling better? I hope you got lots of rest," Clyde said as he reached out a hand to help her out of the car.
Edie quickly pushed his hand away from her. "I’m feeling much better. Do you have a minute? There’s something I need to discuss with you?" she asked.
Clyde glances over her shoulder to see Stuart sitting in the back seat. Clyde looks at him, his eyebrows raised, a faint smile on his lips. "This must be the famous Mr. Yates? I’ve heard a lot about you," he said.
Edie didn’t know how to handle this type of situation and couldn’t make her mouth work right, "No. Yes, I mean. This is Stuart. I mean, my husband Mr. Yates," she said. freewebnøvel.com
Stuart replied calmly, "Nice to finally meet you, Mr. Jackson."
Clyde continued, his smile widening with each sentence. "You know my name. I’m impressed, what an honor," he said.
Stuart nods his head and turns, so he’s facing Edie. "I’ll see you in a few days," he said.
Edie shook her head and said, "Okay." Then she looked at Ivan. "Take your time driving and be careful," she said.
"Yes, of course! Mrs. Yates," Ivan said, shaking his head.
Edie turned to close the doors, and Stuart glared at Clyde through the crack as it closed. His eyes were sharp as a knife blade. The second it closed, Stuart said to Ivan, "I want you to do an investigation on Mr. Jackson."
"Yes, sir," Ivan said immediately.
Stuart squinted his eyes as he collected his thoughts. "Also look into his family. I want to know everything," he added.
Back at the filming base, Edie and Clyde walked side by side. Clyde noticed her eyes looked not only as one lost, but like she carried a well of sadness hidden in its depth. "What’s wrong with you? Did you and your hubby have a fight?" he asked.
Edie’s sadness quickly turned into anger. "Mr. Jackson, it’s all your fault. What have you been telling your fans about Twitter and us? What’s up with that?" She took a deep breath and continued. "One day they’re calling me names and the next they love me and are calling me Mrs. Jackson? What the hell did you do?" she said.
"They’re calling you Mrs. Jackson," Clyde chuckled. He stared at her with amusement. "So when’s our wedding date?"
At first, Edie looked confused, shocked, and hurt. Then her face reddened with fury. "How dare you say that? Don’t you know anything?"
Clyde was fully aware of what was going on, but he pretended as though he didn’t. "So the netizens believe we’re dating?" he asked. For some strange reason, Clyde seemed to be getting enjoyment out of seeing Edie all flustered and upset. "You know you’re not very nice to me. You call me Clyde, and then you call me Mr. Jackson," he said.
Edie stopped walking and realized, and she’d lost control of her temper. "I....I’m...," she stuttered. "I’m sorry! I’m so embarrassed," she said.
"I think I like you better when you’re angry," Clyde teased.
"Clyde," Edie’s tone turned serious. "I’m a married woman, and I love my husband. We will never get a divorce. I don’t know what your intentions are with the contract, but contracts can be broken. We are only friends, and there will never be anything else between us. I just want to know that you understand where I’m coming from?" she said, trying to explain. ƒreewebɳovel.com
Clyde raised his eyebrows. "You will never get a divorce?" he asked.
Edie nodded her head and said, "No, I will not."
"Would you change your mind if you found out that Stuart hurt someone who you cared about?" he asked with a suspicious tone in his voice.
Edie tilted her head and frowned. "What are you talking about?" she said. "Stuart would never hurt me like that. Why are you making accusations about something you know nothing about?"
"Sorry, it came out the wrong way," Clyde said. A smile came, lightening his eyes to reveal a glimpse of something hidden behind them. "I know how much you love your husband. So no worries. We’re here, go get changed," he said and turned around to leave.
"Thanks for understanding," Edie said.
As Clyde turned around, his smile slowly disappeared, and he whispered, "Stuart Yates. Finally..."
