Chapter 337: Chapter 337: You Just Look Like Your Father

Listening to Stuart and Madame’s conversation and the way they spoke to one another, Edie began to worry. She tilted her head and looked at Stuart. ’If my mother ever spoke to me in this manner, it would have broken my heart! But he acts as though nothing is wrong?’ Edie couldn’t help wonder what was going through Stuart’s mind at that exact moment.

Edie stood there and listened to the two argue back and forth. ’Stuart’s like a rock, he never has ups and downs, but I feel like I’m riding an emotional roller coaster, upon minute, down the next. Is this what our marriage is going to be like when his mother is around?’ Countless thoughts ran through her mind. Edie was worried about him, but she did not dare speak. She was about to move her hand when suddenly he gripped it tightly, startling her. She could see confusion and panic in the dark depths of his eyes. She stroked the back of his hand with her thumb and repeated the reassurances. frёeωebɳovel.com

"Well, I guess since it’s a win-win situation. There really isn’t any reason for you being here. You’ve meant Edie, so why are you still here?" Stuart’s jaw tensed, but his voice stayed calm. He looked at her coldly, waiting for his mother to respond.

Madame looked at Stuart and saw her late husband, Alexander. "You look just like your father!" she almost sounded like she cared. She had made a lot of sacrifices on Stuart’s behalf. Sacrifices that Stuart will find out about. She wanted to keep them locked away, and only she holds the key.

Stuart looked at her first in disbelief, then confusion, and finally, he blurted out. "What are you talking about, my father, for?"

"I’m sorry! I look at your face, and I see him. Is that a crime?" Madame’s voice was so angry and cold that it sent a shiver down Edie’s spine. Edie glances over and watches as Madame’s frown turns into a half-smile. "My business here has been solved. It was a private matter, and I had to see it for myself. After all, I am your mother! Is that a problem?" A change came over her facial expression, that of intense concentration.

Edie was puzzled by the quick change in her appearance, but Stuart wasn’t fooled. "Deputy Director, you only want to be my mother when it’s good for you. You may be my mother by blood, but you will always remain a stranger to me." Stuart sneered. He showed a trace of tension with those words.

Edie felt the atmosphere in the room slowly tightening, and the walls felt like they were closing in on her. She began in her mind, ’I need to do something, or this is never going to stop.’ She reached out and grabbed Stuart’s arm and said, "My dear husband, I’m hungry, and you probably haven’t eaten all day. Could we sit down and have some dinner?"

Edie’s voice sounded soft and gentle. It made Stuart feel good, that tone of concern. "Okay! Let’s sit down and have something to eat. Tell me what you ache, and I will serve it for you," he said as he whispered in her ear. Stuart saw the uneasy look in her eyes.

"There’s no need for you to do it for me! I can do it!" Edie said. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm

Stuart nodded. He calmed down some when they sat down, enough to offer Edie a reassuring smile. "I want to do it for my loving wife!" he said as he glared at his mother.

Madame’s expression was a puzzled one as she looked at Stuart. "One minute, you’re furious, and then the next, you act like you’re happy."

"I’m not acting! I am happy," Stuart said sternly.

Madame Yates sat on the opposite side of the table, watching Stuart catering to Edie. She could see the love he had for her on his face as he doted over her every word. Stuart served Edie each morsel of food. She ate slowly, and he watched her eating, smiling at her.

Edie looks up and notices Madame watching them. She starts to feel uncomfortable, and her face turns red from embarrassment. She was just about to tell Stuart to stop when Madame spoke, "I’m surprised at such a wonderful job you’re doing as a husband. I have to admit, and I didn’t think any woman would be able to tolerate you." Madame was worried that Stuart was gay and ordered the servants to give Stuart drugs so he could tolerate women. It was her worse nightmare, her son being a homosexual.

"And to think...You thought you knew who I was," Stuart said in a cold voice, but didn’t lift his head to look at her.

Madame narrowed her eyes at his bent head. "Maybe this is just a show for me and the board of directors because you would do anything for your inheritance. Wouldn’t you?" She sneered.

Edie couldn’t believe what Madame said to Stuart. Her words were so harsh. She was worried about his reaction and thought he would be very angry. He took one step forward and stopped in front of her. "Oh, Madame! Is this too much for you that you can’t even believe in your son?" he asked.

"Believe in my son?" Madame lifted her dark eyebrows in revulsion and discontent. She looked at Edie and said, "He needs power and not trust. Even if I do believe in him, when did he ever believe in me?"

"Because we are the same! You turned me into another version of you, but I found her! My one true love!" Stuart said as she pointed to Edie. His mouth hung slack, but it seemed to wear a hint of a smile as if he understood something mysterious and incomprehensible.

A mother and son in the same room should be a joyful occasion, but instead, one was sneering, and the other remained expressionless. If a stranger were to walk into the Villa, they would never guess they were family.

Dinner had finally ended, and the atmosphere eased a little. They sat in silence for the rest of the meal. Madame Yates and Stuart abided by the aristocratic etiquette. It was more of a habit for them and convenience as well. Edie couldn’t eat in such an awkward atmosphere. She only sat picking at her food. As soon as Stuart finished, he wiped the corners of the mouth gracefully and put down the napkin. "It’s getting late! I think you should leave now!" he suggested.

"Rushing your mother out the door as soon as she’s done the eating! Don’t you think that it’s a bit too much," Madame asked? "Whether this was a business or a private meeting. You do not have the power to drive me away. Edie would you accompany me for a walk to the garden," she said as she got up from the table.

Before Edie had a chance to walk over, Stuart stood in the middle of them.
