Chapter 335: Chapter 335: What Would You Do If Someone Take Him Away?
"Mr. Bates, can you take me to the L. N. Group?" Edie asked.
"Certainly, Mrs. Yates," he replied.
As Edie sat in the car, she nervously fidgeted, and her imagination was getting the better of her. ’What will Stuart say to his mother? Will he be upset with Mr. Bates for not calling him?’
Edie pressed the button and waited. The sound of steps sounded from behind, she heard them distinctly. "Edie, wait a minute...." The vile and malicious voice sounded. Edie looked back and saw Hicks running toward her. Hicks said with a smile on her face panting, breathing hard, completely out of breath. "Are you here to see Stuart? I am too! Let’s go up and surprise him together."
They stepped into an elevator that was crowded with people. It stopped by itself many times, the doors opened, and some people stepped out. Some other people stepping in,
Edie tried to act casual, hoping to bring down the tension with facing Hicks again. "What do you have to discuss with Stuart?" she asked.
Hicks lowered her voice as if she were telling Edie a secret. "My film’s over, I want to find out what his plans are for me next. I mean for work." She giggled.
Edie and Hicks looked at each other. Hick looks around to make sure no one is in earshot before returning her attention back to Edie. "I saw Twitter and entertainment news. So what’s going on with you and Clyde?" she said, her voice booming with enthusiasm.
"There is nothing between Mr. Jackson and myself. It’s all a rumor," Edie quickly explained. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Hicks snorted in disgust. "It’s okay; I was only curious." She grinned. "I believe you and Stuart are so busy, so he probably won’t even notice it’s been on the news or TWITTER," Hicks said, stressing her words.
"If you’re so curious, could I ask you why you’re always bringing Stuart into our conversation?" Edie asked.
The elevator dinged, announcing its arrival. When they stepped out into the lobby, Edie repeated her question. Hicks avoided the question and started toward Stuart’s office. Ivan saw the two of them together and gasped. He walked over to them and politely said, "Are you here to see Stuart? He’s still in a meeting just waiting in the lounge for him."
"Thank you," they both replied.
After Ivan got them settled in the lounge, he pulled Mr. Bates to the side and asked, "What is Mrs. Yates doing with her? Stuart is going to flip!"
"They bumped into one another at the elevator. Miss Dicks was coming to talk to Mr. Yates about work," Mr. Bates explained.
"Work?.... She should have....." Ivan was frantic, but Mr. Bates interrupted.
"Don’t worry about Mrs. Yates; she can handle this. Plus, this will be a good experience for her. This is one of the steps to becoming Mr. Yates’s wife."
Ivan nodded. "I understand!"
"You know the real reason why Hicks is here?" Ivan asked.
"Yes, of course. I think everyone in the L. N. building knows too!" replied Mr. Bates.
"Do you think Mrs. Yates knows that Hicks is in love with Mr. Yates?" Ivan said as he lowered his voice.
"Yes! I’m positive she does. Mrs. Yates is a very smart woman, but Mr. Yates holds too much guilt in his heart and has a hard time turning her away," Mr. Bates explained.
From the first time Hicks set eyes on Stuart, she fell in love with him. Now, whenever Edie looked at Hicks, it reminded her of the video. Edie looked at Hicks, and her heart went out to her. ’That poor woman and what she must have gone through!’ The second Edie saw Hicks at the elevator. That was the only thing that went through her mind. It was an instant replay of the video that was sent to her.
Mr. Bates stood in the lounge watching Edie and Hicks talk. "Edie is a kind woman, but sympathizing with the enemy in return will only bring her harm. This is common knowledge, and I hope that one day soon, Edie can see it for herself," he said, speaking from his heart.
Ivan shook his head. "Yes, today there is Hicks, and tomorrow or next month, it could be someone else. Women have always fought for Stuart’s love, and once the truth about their marriage comes out." He hesitated. "Hard to say what will happen then!"
Edie and Hicks sat in the lounge, talking. "Edie, why did Clyde post those tweets for you? Is he working for your company?" Hicks asked tentatively. She wanted to know what kind of relationship Edie and Clyde had.
"No," Edie replied casually. She said it quickly and without thinking. She didn’t want Hicks to read into something that wasn’t there. "But I’m working with him on the Dynasty Elegy, and maybe because of this film is why he posted all those comments," Edie added.
Hicks thought Edie’s answer was ambiguous, full of real artifice and seeming irresolution. "You should pay closer attention to the people you work with. Clyde making posts like this makes the public opinions unclear. Your marriage to Stuart is a secret, and it would not be good for you and Stuart if people were to make trouble for you two."
What Hicks said made Edie think of Joanna. She nodded her head. "You are right! I will pay closer attention to it in the future."
Hicks’ forehead tensed into a small frown. "What would you do if someone were to take Stuart away from you?"
"What are you talking about? Stuart loves me, how could he be taken away from me?" Edie looked at her with a confused look on her face.
Hicks squinted her eyes and looked at Edie. Her voice became cold. "What if it’s all true, and Stuart realizes he doesn’t love you anymore, and he’s in love with someone else?"
Edie’s heart started beating fast and hard. The second she saw Hicks at the elevator, she thought Hicks had a strange expression on her face. She looked at Hicks, and she was blinking her eyes as if she were waiting for an answer. "This will never happen. There’s no point in me even responding to your question." Edie was annoyed with the way Hicks poked and prodded her and then went on explaining what she thought about would happen. The conversation was getting out of control.
"As you wish," Hicks said with a sneer, and her heart leaped with hot pain. Her eyes flashed with a strange light, and a smirk curved her lips. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
The door suddenly opened, and Stuart stepped into the room. Hicks quickly got up and started walking toward him. Stuart completely ignored her and walked past her and went over to Edie. "Why are you here? You must be tired?" he said with tenderness in his voice.
"I asked Mr. Bates to bring me here, and no, I’m not tired." Edie would not smile, but she would not be sullen either.
Hicks stood there looking like a fool watching them flirt with one another. Her anger was building up inside of her. She managed a smile. "Stuart, my film is over, and I was hoping I could talk to you about what you have arranged for my next one," her voice was gentle.
Stuart turned and looked at Hicks. His expression changed, and he looked at Hicks with nothing but coldness. "You should be talking to your agent about these things and not me. There’s no need of you stopping by her so abruptly."
"I’m so sorry," Hicks said helplessly. She nodded, biting her lip. "I thought since the arrangement was done by you that I was to speak with you personally."
"No! In the future, you talk to your agent and don’t involve me. Is that understood?" Stuart ordered coldly.
