Chapter 129: Chapter 129: It Was Just A Dream

Sitting on the other side of the table, Stuart saw the faint dark circles under Edie’s eyes and could not help but ask, "You didn’t sleep well last night?" Edie was eating the toast and acting as if nothing had happened, "It doesn’t matter. It was just a dream."

Most definitely, it was not a good dream, but Stuart didn’t say anything else. After breakfast, the doorbell rang. Mr. Sampson went to open the door. Edie thought that it was Ivan who was coming to pick Stuart up and take him to work and paid no attention to it. She was holding a cup to drink the rest of her milk.

Unexpectedly, the person at the door was not for Stuart. It was a professional woman; she walked into the house and greeted Stuart. Then she went straight up to Edie to say hello. "Nice to meet you, Mrs. Yates."

Edie wasn’t expecting that the person at the door was for her, and when the woman spoke to her, she was a bit startled and almost choked by milk in her mouth. "A... A-hem, nice to meet you." Edie looked back in confusion and asked, "Who is this?"

She inexplicably came over and said hello to her, and no one gave her an introduction. "Mrs. Yates, I am Gloria Lawrence, a private image consultant. I am at your service for today." Gloria replied, and bowed respectfully.

Edie realized, "Are you here to help me get ready for the dinner party tonight? It isn’t until this evening, why do I need to prepare so early?"

"Mrs. Yates, according to our assessment of your recent living habits, you have to get your hair done, a facial, manicure, pedicure, and a massage done today at the spa. So there are many things that you need to get done before you go to dinner this evening."

Edie was simply stunned. Why was it so much trouble for people with a high social status to go out for a special event? Soon after Edie finished her breakfast, she got in Gloria’s car and went straight to the spa.

It took the whole morning, and most of the afternoon, Edie had a variety of things done at the spa. It was about two hours before the beginning of the party, and the stylist and makeup artist began to help Edie with her makeup and clothing. The stylist chose a pearl-colored long dress for Edie.

When Edie put it on, the stylist immediately said with a flash in her eyes, "This one here is this one." She looked elegant as usual, wearing a long dress. As for her hair, it was curled and pinned up, revealing her swan-like graceful neck, and a few wisps of hair falling down on her collarbone added a touch of vivacity in elegance.

In the end, when it was all finished, all the people that were standing around her couldn’t take their eyes off Edie. The makeup artist said admiringly, "You are so beautiful. I think makeup is just perfect."

Edie smiled, "You really have great skill. It looks so natural, and it’s as though I am not wearing any at all."

"I have put makeup on many stars, and you are by far the most easy going person that I have meant."

"Yes, you had to wait for so long before we did your hair, and you didn’t even make one complaint."

"It took us the whole day! You have been so patient and understanding to us all. It has been a long day, so thank you so much for being so kind to us."

Everyone was praising Edie. They never asked Edie about her and Stuart’s relationship, but everyone in the room had their own secret thoughts, "She is said to be the lover of Master Yates. She looks so beautiful and has such a good temperament. It’s no wonder that Master Yates likes her."

Edie chatted with them for a while, and finally, the time came for Edie to go to the dinner party. Edie had always told Stuart that she wanted to keep a low profile, but tonight she figured she would make an exception and asked the driver to take her in the Lincoln Limousine. After all, this car was more suitable for a dinner party.

The dinner started at five o’clock and was held at the Beck Mansion, following that was the auction which began at seven o’clock. The purpose was to give the business celebrities a chance to communicate, as well as to prepare for the following main event.

When Edie arrived, it was still early, and there were only a few celebrities that were there before her. Everyone came as couples and were getting their invitations checked at the entrance. She slowly followed the crowd on the red carpet and looked at the people. Inexplicably, she suddenly thought of Stuart.

She thought, if only she had come with Stuart. This shocked Edie, and she quickly shook her head to ignore this strange thought deliberately. Soon it was Edie’s turn to get her invitation checked. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Nice to meet you. Could I see your invitation, please?"

The staff was very polite to everyone because the people that were invited were all respected celebrities from the City. "Okay," Edie answered and began to search for the white invitation from her handbag, but she could not find it.

Edie couldn’t help but frown. Why? She distinctly remembered that she had put it in the bag. The man at the entrance noticed her searching for the invitation, so he patiently asked, "Maybe you left the invitation at home? Would you like to call and see if it is there?"

Edie shook her head, "No, I remember I had it with me." Stuart gave her such an important thing to hang on to, and now she has lost it. Edie uncontrollably felt a little anxious and searched in her purse inch by inch, but she still did not see the invitation.

As time went by, the number of people waiting behind her gradually increased. "Who is she? Why is taking her so long? Does she have an invitation?"

There was a couple behind Edie that were talking, and she thought the voices sounded familiar. Edie turned around to look, and it was Joanna and Donald. Joanna was wearing a black fishtail dress, and Donald, who was standing next to her, was dressed in a black suit.

They stood on the red carpet hand in hand, and they both looked extremely happy. Edie showed no emotions when she saw him, but Donald the moment he set his eyes on her, his eyes darkened, and even his fingers that were holding the invitation unconscious formed into a fist.

Joanna had recognized Edie earlier, and now she was just acting. She covered her mouth and said, "Oh, Edie, you are allowed to participate in this auction? I heard that you only got paid only one hundred thousand dollars from the film. Is it enough for you to be able to purchase an item?"

Edie looked at her intensely, "It has nothing to do with you." Edie was dressed in a gorgeous white dress, and her makeup was elegant, which almost attracted the attention of everyone at the door. Even Donald was looking at her, so they just made Joanna even more annoyed.

Joanna gave Edie a glance and asked, "Then why don’t you come in? You have been standing here in front of the line up for so long now. Don’t you have an invitation? In fact, I think I understand what is going on. You must have been thinking that they would not check to see if you had an invitation, and you could secretly let yourself in. Then, you were unexpectedly stopped here, so now you are pretending that you had one."

Joanna’s words even made the staff’s eyes change. The man at the door who was very polite to her now had a bit of suspicion in his eyes, "Do you really have an invitation?"
