Chapter 117: Chapter 117: The Past
Edie returned to the Villa and said something to Mr. Sampson. He returned to the room and filled the tub full of warm water. After soaking for a while, she felt that her muscles were slowly starting to relax.
Edie would get this strange feeling whenever she thought about Greg’s house and how it was the place where she grew up. She lived with the Greg’s for nearly ten years, and it never felt like a home, but she was at the Villa; it gave her a sense of security.
The time she has spent in the Villa has been short, but she already had a deep attachment and dependence on it. The warm bath water, the gentle vibration of the bathtub, and the soothing fragrance that lingered in the air let Edie finally relax.
Edie pressed the button by her hand, and the music began to play a lyrical piano piece. She took the crystal glass and poured a glass of red wine. She shook it slightly and watched the wine in the warm yellow bathroom light. Under the light, it showed a different color; she couldn’t help but sip gently, "It’s perfect."
Edie felt the mellowness of the red wine, whispering pleasantly, then lazily laid on the back of the tub and enjoyed the soothing bath. Were the lives of rich people so corrupt? There were so many times when she almost felt sorry for Stuart. She understood him, but yet she didn’t know him. She wondered if she ever would.
Edie was getting sleepy, and just as she was about to get out of the tub, her cell phone on the small table suddenly rang. She grabbed her phone and saw the number on the screen, and her mind immediately went blank.
She was completely sober, "It is Donald Lynch, and the last time I saw him, he was still sick." She didn’t want anything to do with him, but she felt sad thinking that he was lying on the hospital bed and she couldn’t bear it.
"Didn’t he visit Grandpa with Joanna today? That proves that his illness has been cured." Edie held her phone for a long time and couldn’t find the courage to answer. She really didn’t know what to say to him.
The phone rang for a long time and finally, he hung up, but after a few seconds, Donald called again! He was determined to talk to her. Edie hesitated, and this time she did not wait until the ringing stopped, she hit the end call button and hung up.
Then, she clicked on the message and quickly sent him a few words, "What do you want?".
Donald quickly replied, "I want to ask you one thing."
"What is it?"
It was silent for a long time, and there was no reply back, and he didn’t call again. Edie didn’t know how she felt. Was there more disappointment or more relief? Lifting the glass, she took a sip of red wine.
Then suddenly her phone rang again. Edie took her phone and opened a new message. Her hand was slightly trembling. freewebnσvel.cѳm
"We were together, right? Was it for five years?"
Seeing this message, Edie’s hands started to tremble, and she almost dropped the phone in the bathtub. It was bizarre. She knew that Donald finally began to doubt his memory of her. He began to believe what she said and was starting to remember their relationship. She was shocked but was not happy at all.
She thought that this day would never come if it did, there would be ecstatic emotions, but there was only numbness. Edie did not have any feelings for him, and her heart was empty as if used to belong to Donald but now had no trace of him.
Edie took the phone and slowly sent him another message. "Yes, and everything that you have been told is a lie. The only one that told the truth was me." She sent the message and turned off her phone.
Putting the phone aside, the smoker feels that his heart is telling him something, but his mind will not let him remember. Why can’t he remember?
She wasn’t allowed to ask him for anything anymore. The words that were said were enough for her a year ago. Her tears have already drained, and she wasn’t going to shed another one for him.
When she was fifteen, she knew Donald and Victoria called him "Brother Donald." Donald was like a model for other family’s children. His appearance was outstanding, and his behavior was excellent. His manners were decent, and he had grown up to be a true gentleman. Many girls liked him, including Victoria.
When Edie was younger, she didn’t like him at first. She was always trying to avoid him. The strange thing was that he was interested in her. He wanted to involve her in any matter. If he had a question, he would ask her.
When they went out, he always paid attention to Edie, and he always treated Victoria coldly. Several times, he treated Victoria so awful that when she got home, she took it out on Edie. The complicated life of Edie became harder because Victoria was always trying to make trouble for her. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Finally, one day, Edie couldn’t bear it. After a school trip, she called Donald and pulled him to the roof of the school. She asked him, "What do you think of me? Why are you always paying so much attention to me?"
Little teenagers always had an interpersonal relationship, but when faced with her, there was a shame that was not easy to detect, "I, I am not paying attention to you."
"Then why are you always around me? You can’t go out with Victoria, and she likes you so much. You go and find her, and she will be pleased. Then she will leave me alone and not cause me any more trouble."
Donald didn’t think that Edie called him out to say this. His beautiful face looked unhappy. He said one word and one sentence very seriously, "But I don’t like Victoria, I like you." Edie couldn’t imagine what kind of expression she had at the time, but the only thing that was certain was that she must have heard him wrong.
Donald couldn’t help but smile, "You don’t show any expression. My liking you is my business, and I don’t need a response from you." At that time, Edie was still very naive, and she finally squeezed out a sentence, "Young love is not good."
Donald smiled and nodded, "No, early love is not good. I will wait until you are an adult." Later...there were some less pleasant things that happened, and Edie didn’t want to think about them again.
At the age of 17, Edie and Donald were officially together. Edie and the Greg family’s relationship had already broken. She asked Donald, "Will you regret being with me?" He said, "Never, don’t you ever think of such a thing."
Oh, these vows of men. Edie picked up the glass and poured herself another glass of red wine. Her slender fingers held the crystal goblet and watched the wine inside like a bloody charm. She gently lifted the glass, facing the soft light of the ceiling.
Respect the past, and don’t look back at love. The person she loved at the age of seventeen was buried in the past with the time. Edie looked up and drank the red wine in the glass.
