Chapter 104: Chapter 104: His Gift
Edie went outside, and Stuart had already driven the car around the front of the building and was waiting for her. When Edie got in, Stuart immediately noticed that something was wrong with her.
What happened?"
Edie shook her head and didn’t want Stuart to get involved, "Nothing." Stuart was upset, and he didn’t like her not trusting him.
"Do you want me to check the security cameras in the restaurant?"
Edie was a bit stunned, but not surprised. She was getting to know him and almost knew what he was going to say before he said it. She knew that this was definitely something that he would do.
She had no choice, and she had to tell him what happened inside. Stuart sighed a little and said, "Is it okay if I go with you to pick up a gift?"
"Ah?" Edie was stunned. Stuart looked up and looked at her confused little face and asked: "Grandpa’s birthday feast, don’t you need to get him a gift?"
"Get a gift, but... I don’t want to bother you."
Stuart, with the noble status, should not be mixed into the bad things about her family. He was the CEO of the L.N. Group, who was very busy. It was not okay to waste his time picking up gifts.
"It is not necessary to accompany my wife?" Stuart asked.
"Wife? It was supposed to be a fake marriage; why does it have to be so real?" Edie thought. Stuart was the kind of person who was always in the upper position. This was the style of the wealthy people, but she did not feel uncomfortable with it.
Edie said, "Do you want to go with me to my grandpa’s party?" This time it was Stuart raising his eyebrows with some doubts, "Shouldn’t I?" She expected that he would say no and now it was too late, she couldn’t take back what she said.
Since he was willing to go with her, she thought there was nothing wrong with it. Stuart started to drive the car and asked Edie, "What does your grandfather like?" She had to think about it because she did not spend much time with her grandfather because of his poor health.
He lived in a nursing home and only went to visit Greg’s once a month. He was always very kind to her. He always treated Victoria and Edie equally. It almost seemed as though he liked Edie more, and because of that, Victoria would get very angry and throw quite a few tantrums.
Greg’s and her grandfather were completely different people. He accepted Edie right from the beginning. He was the one who decided to let her come and stay with them when she was a child.
According to Mrs. Greg, she thought to give Edie a roof under her head was more than enough. Therefore, Edie was really grateful to have her Grandpa in her life.
"I remember that Grandpa likes to drink tea. It would be nice to give him a tea set."
"That sounds like a good idea."
Stuart turned the car around and drove to the largest tea store in the city. The place that he chose was, of course, extraordinary. The tea sets were so exquisite, and the price was very high.
Edie was in chaos; she looked from left to right and then finally selected a blue and white porcelain set, which was very elegant. Then she looked at the price, and it was five hundred thousand dollars. That was pretty much all that she had.
While she was waiting for the gift to be wrapped, all of a sudden, Stuart came up from behind her and said, "How about this set?" He had picked out a purple sand tea set. The style was simple but yet elegant. It was decorated with golden spring blossoms.
"Is it purple? Is it too plain? I want something that when he looks at it, he will think of me."
"Your grandfather likes tea, but does he like fancy things? This one, I think, would be more suitable for him.?
The complexities of tea are endless, from the appearance of the leaves and the aroma and the flavor. One of the things that my Grandpa always liked about tea was the there were so many different types, and he loved the fragrance of them all. Stuart grew up in the U.K., and Edie did not expect him to understand the tea culture.
Stuart unconsciously lifted his eyebrows. Edie noticed that he was moving very slowly and thought that he looked exhausted. He had been working so hard, and every night it kept getting later. Now, today he was helping her pick out a gift. She felt responsible.
"Are you tired? Why don’t we go back, and you can get some rest?"
Stuart shook his head. Edie didn’t spend a lot of time with Stuart, but she was beginning to understand him quite well. He was a stubborn man, and if he shakes his head and refuses, there was no changing his mind.
Edie didn’t even try to persuade him. She turned to the manager and said, "I have changed my mind, could you wrap this one up instead?" Persuasion was worse than action since she wanted him to go back and have a rest; it would be better to just agree with him.
Edie went to take her wallet out, and Stuart had already given the man his card. Edie glanced at the card and stood there with a surprised look on her face, "A black gold card?" Edie felt a little helpless, "Stuart, I have money."
"I am your husband, and I will pay for this."
Edie never understood that about Stuart, it wasn’t a real marriage, but yet he always paid for her things and helped in any way that he could. She wanted to say something to him, but she didn’t want to embarrass him in front of the store manager.
Edie made a subtle hint to him, "This is a gift for my grandfather."
"Your grandfather is my grandfather?"
Edie had no choice but to put her card back. As soon as they left, they went directly to the Villa. Edie went upstairs to take a shower, and when she was finished, she had assumed that Stuart was lying down. She couldn’t find him and asked Mr. Sampson if he knew where he was.
Apparently, he was in his studies because of his outing with Edie. It had delayed his business. Edie didn’t want to disturb him, so he went into the living room.
She found herself getting bored so she decided that she might watch T.V., just as she was about to turn it on her phone suddenly made a noise. It was a message, she looked at it, and it was from Aaron. She hadn’t heard from him in a long time.
She opened the message, "Stuart is the CEO of L.N. Group. How do you think it makes me feel when he is working all the time and so tired from exhaustion? Why are you letting him work so much?" That was his response.
Then there was another message, "Maybe you are not aware of this, but he has a business to run and many things going on that need his attention. Stuart doesn’t like women, and he has been questioned several times about his sexual preference. Many people within the company think he is gay and quite a few people that do not want him to be the next heir. The board of directors does not want him to monopolize his power. The entire L.N. Group’s rights are scattered among the deputy directors. Stuart has always wanted to recover it."
Edie read his messages over and over again, trying to make sense of what he was trying to tell her. It sounded so complicated. He has always been noble, almost like a king, and he had a lot of responsibilities. That she understood and then Aaron sent her another message.
"Stuart’s capability is obvious to everyone. He is beyond excellent, and because of sexual orientation, they will deny him of becoming the heir. Edie, you don’t understand, but the power struggle of the family is very intense. There is more than one successor candidate in the family. There are two sons in the family. This is such a big disadvantage for Stuart. Do you think that the second son will not try to seize the opportunity?" frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
She had no idea because Stuart had never said anything about his family. Edie was very disturbed by Aaron’s messages and was starting to get really concerned about Stuart. They chatted for a while, and finally, Aaron sent her one last message, "Please help me take care of Stuart."
Edie thought about the message, and that was something that she was definitely going to do, but it wasn’t for Aaron.
