Chapter 94: Found You
Slice!
The zombie’s throat was sliced open by the sharpness of Cassie’s dagger. It crumpled to the ground and struggled to get up, but she didn’t give it a chance.
Swiftly, she stabbed her dagger into the back of its head and turned the hilt.
[You have slain a Level 9 Normal Zombie!]
Pulling out her dagger, she rushed to the other end of the building. Another apartment building stood across from her, and this time, she didn’t hesitate.
She jumped over and crossed the distance in an instant. Landing with a roll, she sprang back up and glanced behind her.
Zombies were pouring out of the broken rooftop door and were still rushing toward her.
However, with how mindless they were, most of them simply fell off the railing, landing on the ground below and breaking several bones.
Cassie only watched them for a moment before she started tracing her way back to the hotel.
After jumping off four different buildings, she finally stopped at a dead end. The next building was impossibly far away, stretching just beyond her reach.
She looked down at the streets and frowned. Zombies were already crawling all over the place, mounting abandoned cars and snarling as they searched for more flesh.
Boom.
The building she was standing on shook as the catastrophic echoes of a distant battle reached her position.
She immediately grabbed the railing, watching as a smaller building across from her cracked and collapsed.
When she looked back, the zombies were already climbing onto the building she was standing on, and at this rate, they’d reach her in a minute. Perhaps even less than a minute.
’Damnit.’
Cursing inwardly, she threw caution into the wind and jumped over the railing, diving into the street below.
Bang!
The asphalt cracked slightly from her landing, and she felt her knees wobble from the impact. For a few seconds, she was unable to move, waiting for the residual force to be dispersed.
When it did, a few zombies were already close to her. She flung out a kick to a zombie’s midsection. It crashed into the other zombie behind it, and they toppled to the ground.
"Revolting," she spat in disgust, feeling the rotten flesh give way beneath her boot.
However, the feeling didn’t linger. She ducked under another zombie’s lunge, driving an uppercut into its stomach.
Then, she ran. Sprinting at full speed, she soon arrived at the building that had originally been her goal, then jumped.
She defied gravity more than a regular human would, and stabbed her dagger into the wall.
The city trembled once again, a reminder that two monsters were battling somewhere. The urgency in Cassie’s heart grew.
Using the dagger as an anchor, she swung herself to the small balcony attached to the third floor, then entered the room.
The smell of rotten flesh instantly assaulted her nose, but she didn’t even pause to find the source.
She dashed out of the room and made her way through the stairs, once again heading for the rooftop.
Once she emerged into the open air, Cassie paused to take a breather. Then, she locked her eyes on her next target.
The closest building was taller than the one she was occupying, so her target shifted from its rooftop to a balcony that was at roughly the same height as her current position.
She took a few steps back, feeling the building tremble beneath her feet. Then, she ran forward. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Boom.
A thunderclap-like rumble echoed across the city, and the windows of the buildings around her shattered.
Just as she jumped, the building she had jumped from collapsed, sending a shockwave through the air, disrupting her flight.
Her eyes slowly widened as she felt herself falling short of her target, but fortunately, she managed to catch the edge of the balcony with three fingers.
Dangling midair with the ground several meters below her, she struggled to pull herself up, eventually hooking her elbows around the balcony.
Just as she thought things were finally looking good, the building she had just latched onto trembled, and she saw cracks growing on it.
’Crap!’
There was nothing she could do. Her last thread of hope was about to collapse.
’I’m definitely hitting the streets. How do I minimize damage and avoid being crushed by the broken walls?’
Her gaze snapped to the street below her, her mind already calculating possibilities.
Just as the building tilted completely, a hand suddenly grabbed hers, and another gently pulled her by the waist.
Then, she plummeted down.
Her eyes widened in shock, but strangely, she didn’t panic. After all, she was in safe hands.
Just as it seemed like she would crash into the ground and become meat paste, she vanished into the shadow of the collapsing building, then re-emerged from the shadow cast by an abandoned truck meters away.
Finally, she released the breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. Also, she could now feel the broad chest pressed against her back, and the firm hand gripping hers.
She smiled innocently and said, "Boss saves the day."
Breathing a sigh of relief, Leon mischievously pinched her waist and stepped back. Scanning their surroundings, he said, "We can’t afford to waste time. We’re heading to the Williamsburg Bridge to regroup with the others."
She nodded, her smile gone, "Alright. We’re moving east, then."
Leon nodded and led the way.
The two sprinted across the street, ignoring the existence of the zombies around them. As for the ones that came too close, Leon easily handled them with just a few shadow spears.
’This Shadow Teleportation that Thyra taught me appears to be insanely useful. But at the same time, it drains mana a lot. Although I have Instant Recovery to restore my Mana, I can’t just abuse it in this situation.’
When he had first used the technique to save Selene from the Grimhowl Wolf, Thyra had been surprised that he learnt it instinctively. So, she decided to train him properly in using it. After all, who knew an ability more than its owner who had been using it for years?
Hence, Leon learned from the best teacher the universe could offer to him! That aside, the situation still looked ugly.
More zombies started swarming after them, creating a tight curve around the duo.
