Chapter 74: Slaying Mutated Pigs

The mutated pigs immediately converged on the one Gwen had just killed, tearing into its flesh without care. They kept squealing loudly as they devoured their own kind, sending a chill down Gwen’s spine.

’Why...?’

Her eyes shook, and she tightened her grip on her bow.

"Will you listen to me?" Leon asked, his voice softer.

He took an arrow from her quiver and handed it to her, "Humans, Zombies, and Mutated beasts. We’re all the same on a level. We do anything to get more. And right now, it’s a fight for more power. These mutated pigs will eat other mutated beasts, zombies, and even humans, to grow stronger."

He glanced back at the pigs, seeing that they had devoured both corpses down to the bone.

"Gwen, kill them."

She took a breath and nodded. Nocking the arrow he had given her, she pulled on the bowstring and fired a shot.

The arrow wheezed through the air and missed a pig. However, before it could stab into the ground, it turned around and stabbed into a mutated pig’s neck, killing it.

She didn’t stop despite her trembling hands. With every shot she missed, she simply used her telekinesis ability to redirect the arrow and kill her target.

Soon, she had killed ten mutated pigs that came outside from the ranch. The rest continued to feast on the corpses of their mates, causing her stomach to twist in disgust.

She blinked in surprise, then smiled weakly. "I... leveled up."

Suddenly, her expression turned sour. "But, ugh... I already used up all my mana."

Her hand was still trembling, and she had no doubt that she’d miss her next shot if she tried to fire.

"Will you... handle the rest?" She said to Leon, trying to hide her trembling hands.

Even though Leon had explained to her, she couldn’t just switch her mindset instantly. After all, she could be considered a sheltered princess.

Her family was supremely influential, and she had been quite fond of animals. Shooting them down without them being aggressive towards her felt somehow wrong.

Leon saw through her and sighed exasperatedly. ’You can shoot zombies, but not mutated beasts? Very ironic.’

After all, her main ability only hurt things with souls. Not zombies.

Calmly, he placed his sword against the wall and stepped behind her.

"Leon?"

Before she could say anything, his palm covered her hand that was holding the bow, steadying it.

Then, he raised her hand and bow, aiming it at the remaining beasts.

"Stay still," He said as he picked an arrow from her quiver and placed it in her other hand.

Then, he helped her pull it back while suppressing the tremor in her hands.

The arrow steadied on the bow, and he placed his face beside hers. freewebnovёl.ƈom

"Watch, and fire."

He helped her release the arrow, and it instantly sank into a mutated pig’s ribs, crushing its heart in the process.

Her eyes widened at how easy it was. She had been trained in archery by her butler, and it was surprising to see someone even more skilled than she was.

Where did he gain that level of proficiency?

Just as she was about to ask him, he picked another arrow from her quiver and placed it in her hand.

"Focus," He said softly.

Feeling his hot breath brush against her ears, her face flushed. She instantly became self-conscious, realizing that her whole body was pressed against him.

’I-Isn’t this too... intimate?’ She blushed heavily.

"I asked you to focus," Leon’s voice came again, cold.

She immediately turned serious, took a breath, then focused on her target.

"Release."

The arrow shot through the air, striking a mutated pig by the neck. It immediately crumpled to the ground, only to be ganged up on by the others.

[You have slain...]

"Good. Another one," He said, his voice softer now.

Gwen shivered, growing more self-conscious. His fingers brushed against her skin as he placed another arrow in her hand, then helped her fire the shot.

She breathed a sigh, waiting for him to place another arrow in her hand. However, after he did, he stepped back, leaving her to fire the shot by herself.

To her surprise, she felt slightly disappointed. Her lips twitched, and she felt like smacking her own head.

’I should focus.’

Her expression became serious, and she nocked the arrow.

Thwip~!

It shot through the air as soon as she released it, reaping the life of another mutated pig. Her hands had stopped trembling, and she fired another shot after taking a deep breath.

Leon watched her silently, his thoughts spinning. ’These arrows are special. With them, she’s killing the pigs without her ability.’

He was a little disappointed, as he wanted to study her main ability more. Although he didn’t know the name, he knew she could soothe or hurt a soul, and her ability manifested in the form of a ghostly green flame.

’Hm, there are lots of strange abilities, I must say,’ He shook his head, his gaze involuntarily dropping to the girl’s figure.

Although she couldn’t be compared to Thyra, she was a top beauty in the campus. If he were to rate her, he’d give her an eight out of ten, second only to Selene.

’Rich kids and their good figures, I guess.’

He shrugged, trying to remain indifferent. He closed his eyes and sat in a chair, trying to erase the memory of her body being pressed against him. Unfortunately, he could barely control an energetic member from rising as he continued remembering the fine details of her body.

’Ugh, I thought staying with Thyra helped me build some resistance to women. Or am I wrong?’

Feeling disappointed in himself, he began chanting monk sutras to cleanse his mind while he waited for her to finish.

He didn’t know how much time had passed, but his eyes shot open when he felt a warm breath on his face.

He blinked, seeing Gwen’s cute face up close.

"Oh, I thought you were sleeping, so I didn’t want to wake you," She said, flashing him a sweet smile.

Unable to resist, Leon reached out and gently pinched her cheeks.
