Chapter 298: Chapter 183: You Will Always Be the Strongest King

Hei Feng and Zhui Ying had successfully become official police dogs and already distinguished themselves in the line of duty. The corresponding feedback of fortune had arrived.

This meant that the "casual move" he had secretly made at the Police Dog Base was beginning to pay off.

After all, Hei Feng and Zhui Ying weren’t the only reserve police dogs at the base who had eaten Strengthening Pills.

’I can pick one or two more with exceptionally outstanding potential, find the right opportunity, and secretly perform a Spirit Awakening. I’ll implant them with a Spirit Seed and turn them into Guardian Beasts!’

Yang Qi mused, stroking his chin.

’The initial phase of my plan to turn all the city’s police dogs into Guardian Beasts is complete.’

’Now I have to keep up the momentum!’

His good mood lasted all the way until he began his cultivation session.

Perhaps it was due to the two new, stable streams of fortune flowing back to him, or maybe it was his uplifted state of mind, but when Yang Qi cultivated the Great Derivation Spirit-Controlling Technique again, the process was exceptionally smooth. His Magical Power grew at a rate that was noticeably a notch faster than usual.

Early the next morning, Yang Qi finished his cultivation and rose to his feet, feeling invigorated.

He first went to the backyard to check on the Demon Extermination Array, which had been running all night with glorious results.

After tallying everything up, he found he had earned over eight hundred contribution points.

’Eight draws in a row!’

[Congratulations, Host. You have drawn: Low-Grade Qi Condensing Pill]

[Congratulations, Host. You have drawn: Strengthening Pill]

[Congratulations, Host. You have drawn: Low-Grade Spirit Rice (ten pounds)]

[Congratulations, Host. You have drawn: Vitality Nutrient Cream]

[Congratulations, Host. You have drawn: Clear Spirit Powder]

The first five draws were all routine supply replenishments. The variety was decent, and Clear Spirit Powder was a good support item to have.

The sixth draw.

[Congratulations, Host. You have drawn: Low-grade Spirit Stone (Wood-attribute)]

’Another Wood Spirit Stone.’

Yang Qi nodded. ’One more for my array reserves.’

The seventh draw.

[Congratulations, Host. You have drawn: Gathering Spirit Pill]

’Not bad.’

The final draw.

[Congratulations, Host. You have drawn: Spirit Awakening Pill]

’A second Spirit Awakening Pill!’

Yang Qi’s eyes lit up with a burst of delighted surprise.

’This stuff is hard to come by!’

The effects after Xiaojiu took one were plain to see, and Leopard, Bai Wan, and Hu Zi were all eagerly waiting for their turn.

He immediately materialized the precious pill and held it in his palm.

The pill emanated a faint, pure spiritual energy that was incredibly refreshing.

Yang Qi walked into the living room and found Leopard sprawled on the carpet. The dog’s tail began to wag happily the moment he saw him.

"Leopard, come here."

"WOOF!"

Leopard immediately trotted over, sat ramrod straight, and looked up at Yang Qi with anticipation in his eyes.

"Eat this."

Yang Qi squatted down and held his palm out to Leopard. "Once you eat this, you’ll be able to start cultivating, just like Xiaojiu."

He decided to give the Spirit Awakening Pill to Leopard first to stop him from whining with envy every time he saw Xiaojiu.

"Woof~!"

[Thank you, Master.]

Leopard was ecstatic. His tail spun like a pinwheel as he eagerly leaned in, extended his tongue, and with a gentle flick, rolled the Spirit Awakening Pill into his mouth and swallowed it.

As soon as the pill entered his stomach, its medicinal power rapidly dissolved and spread.

Leopard first felt a cool sensation rush to his head, instantly revitalizing him. But it was immediately followed by a powerful wave of dizziness, as if the whole world was spinning.

"Whimper... woof..."

Leopard shook his big head, quickly turned, and stumbled back to his dog bed. The moment he lay down, his eyelids grew heavy and shut. He fell into a deep sleep almost instantly, his breathing becoming long and steady as the medicinal power within his body began to slowly awaken his spirit.

"Woof woof?"

Bai Wan and Hu Zi padded over. They looked at the instantly-asleep Leopard with a mix of curiosity and concern, letting out low whimpers.

[What’s wrong with Leopard?]

[He’s sleeping again? It’s so early.]

"Don’t worry. Just like Xiaojiu, Leopard is sleeping to digest the medicine’s power."

Yang Qi patted their heads reassuringly. "You’ll get your turn soon, too. Just be patient."

At his words, Bai Wan happily wagged his tail and nuzzled his head against Yang Qi’s hand.

Hu Zi, though calmer by nature, also had a clear look of anticipation in his eyes.

Perched on the windowsill, Xiaojiu shot a nonchalant glance at the sleeping Leopard before licking a paw.

After reassuring the dogs, Yang Qi prepared breakfast for Bai Wan and Hu Zi, setting out their kibble and fresh water. He then filled Xiaojiu’s bowl with cat food, adding a Beast Spirit Pill as an extra treat.

Xiaojiu let out a happy "MEOW," swallowed the Beast Spirit Pill in one gulp, and then began to enjoy its breakfast.

After changing into his work uniform, Yang Qi headed out to begin his daily routine.

Feeding, cleaning, providing enrichment, observing the animals’ conditions...

Everything proceeded in an orderly fashion.

Around eleven in the morning, Yang Qi had just finished cleaning the Wolf District and was about to head to the cafeteria when his phone rang.

It was a WeChat voice call from Wang Anjiu.

"Officer Wang," Yang Qi answered.

"Brother Qi, where are you right now? If you’re free, could you come to the Zoo’s reception office? There’s something I need to see you about."

Wang Anjiu’s voice came through the phone. His tone was formal, unlike their usual casual chats.

"The reception office? Alright, I’m on my way."

Yang Qi was a little puzzled but agreed nonetheless.

He set down his tools and headed toward the reception office, which was in the administration building near the Zoo’s main entrance.

’What could it be?’ he wondered. ’Why would an officer from the local station ask to meet me in a formal place like the reception office?’

’For a routine consultation or a request for assistance, he’d usually just call or stop by my courtyard.’

When he pushed open the door to the reception office, he saw three people already seated inside.

Besides Wang Anjiu, who was in uniform, there were two unfamiliar middle-aged men. Both were in plain clothes, but they sat with ramrod-straight postures, and their gazes were sharp. They exuded an air of competence and composure, looking like seasoned officers at a glance.

Seeing Yang Qi enter, Wang Anjiu, who had been in the middle of a conversation, stood up. "Brother Qi, you’re here," he said with a smile. "Let me make an introduction."

He gestured toward the man in the lead seat—a man in his forties with a resolute face and deep-set eyes. "This is the captain of the Third Criminal Investigation Division of the Binjiang City Public Security Bureau, Shen Ruiping. Captain Shen."

’From Binjiang?’

Yang Qi’s interest was piqued.

Binjiang City was a neighboring municipality, located northeast of Donghua. Its economy and size were comparable to Donghua City, but it was some distance away, and the two cities didn’t have much interaction.

’Why would a criminal investigation captain from Binjiang come all the way to the Donghua Zoo to find me?’
