Chapter 152: Chapter 152: It’s the Rain Godess

Chen Shaobei didn’t hesitate. He turned and brought over a map showing the route from the Capital City to Shu State.

"Take a look at this first. I’ll go find a doctor for you." With that, Chen Shaobei hurried out.

Finding herself alone, Shen Ningning quickly summoned a dark cloud from the Immortal Realm.

The little girl pointed to the two words for "Shu State" on the map and said to the cloud, "Little cloud, I don’t know if you can understand me, but can you go to this place and make it rain? Please?"

The dark cloud, of course, didn’t reply, but Shen Ningning repeated her instructions several times.

"You have to go here, see? This is the route. Don’t get lost!"

She didn’t know if this would work, but she had to try.

If the cloud couldn’t float to Shu State, she would have to go there herself!

Shen Ningning carried the dark cloud outside. After looking left and right to make sure no one was around, she let it go, allowing it to float up into the sky.

The little girl tilted her head back, watching it nervously.

’It has to float to Shu State... please...’

If it failed, the downpour would happen right here in the Capital City.

But then, something wonderful happened!

The dark cloud drifted up into the night sky, and after a moment, the little girl heard no thunder.

Shen Ningning was overjoyed. "Little cloud, did you float off to Shu State?"

There was no sign of anything unusual in the sky.

She waited a while longer, and only after confirming that no heavy rain was falling did she finally feel relieved.

’News about whether it will rain in Shu State should arrive soon,’ she thought.

When Chen Shaobei rushed back with the doctor, the room was empty.

"She’s gone?" He frowned, then noticed a note on the table and picked it up.

It was a message from Shen Ningning—

[Brother Bei, my injury is fine. I went home to take care of it. Thanks.]

That night, after a bath in the Spiritual Spring, Shen Ningning lay on her bed, a cool, gentle breeze making her drowsy.

As she drifted off, she had a dream.

The little cloud she had released had somehow grown a pair of eyebrows and was now looking at her with a worried frown.

"Little cloud, why didn’t you go to Shu State?" the little girl asked in surprise.

The cloud’s child-like voice replied with a sob, "I can’t hold it in anymore!"

Shen Ningning quickly tried to hold its dispersing misty tendrils together. "No, no! Hold it in! You have to wait until you get to Shu State to rain!"

However, a series of muffled rumbles of thunder jolted the little girl awake.

Outside, thunder clapped repeatedly, and flashes of lightning illuminated the panic in Shen Ningning’s dark eyes.

The little girl stepped over the wolves lying scattered about on the floor and quickly opened the door.

WHOOSH— A spray of rain swept in with the wind.

It was raining in the Capital City after all.

It seemed the plan to let the cloud float to Shu State on its own just wasn’t going to work.

Shen Ningning’s small, milky-white face was etched with anxiety.

The Black Wolf King came up from behind and licked the wound on her arm, whining softly to remind her to go back to sleep and rest.

Shen Ningning lay back on the bed, tossing and turning in distress. "Langlang, if it doesn’t rain in Shu State, then Brother’s five days of suffering will be for nothing!"

The Black Wolf King lay lazily on the footstool. Hearing this, he offered his own opinion: "Awooo~"

He was saying that it was fine if he suffered for nothing. He thought that boy, Mo Lingwei, deserved to suffer a little.

But Shen Ningning muttered, "No way. I’m leaving for Shu State tomorrow morning!"

The Black Wolf King’s ears perked up. "Arf?!"

The little girl made up her mind. First, she snuggled tightly under her quilt, planning to get a full night’s sleep so she’d be ready to leave tomorrow.

Just as she was about to fall asleep, a clamor of voices filled her ears, as if thousands of people were speaking right next to her.

"O, great Rain Goddess, I beg you to look kindly upon Shu State! If it doesn’t rain soon, we won’t survive."

"Oh, heavens! Open your eyes and see! What have we done wrong to deserve four whole years without a single heavy rain?!"

"Heaven and Earth are ruthless; they treat all of creation like straw dogs!" someone cried out in angry tears.

’So noisy...’

Shen Ningning covered her little ears.

But the voices seemed to bore right into her mind.

Some were crying and cursing, some were begging, and some were chanting scriptures.

Eventually, all the sounds merged into one: everyone was crying.

Shadowy figures seemed to appear before her eyes, all of them kowtowing on the ground.

Shen Ningning reached out her small hand, wanting to comfort them, but in the blink of an eye, the scene vanished.

In its place were myriad rays of blinding golden light!

The light was blinding. The little girl shielded her eyes with her hand and peeked through her fingers. Before her stood a colossal statue of a god.

The statue depicted a woman with flowing robes and an awe-inspiring divine presence. She held a vase in her left hand and a length of Scattered Rain Silk in her right. Beneath her sat a black dragon, its mouth open as if swallowing clouds and breathing mist.

Shen Ningning blinked blankly. "It’s the Rain Goddess..."

She had seen a sculpture of the Rain Goddess at her private school before.

The little girl said urgently, "Please make it rain in Shu State! If it rains... the people will be saved."

In an instant, the statue of the Rain Goddess dissolved like mist and rain into countless water droplets, vanishing with a WHOOSH.

Shen Ningning reached out her small hand. "Don’t go!"

She grabbed at empty air and sat up abruptly. Outside the window, the sky was already bright.

’Weird... I was dreaming again.’

The little girl scratched her head.

"Oh, right! I still have to get to Shu State," she said. With a grunt, she scrambled out of bed and got dressed.

Just as she was about to pack her things, the Black Wolf King snatched her by the collar with his teeth and trotted outside with her.

"Langlang, what are you doing? Put me down!"

"Hmph!" The Black Wolf King snorted.

He refused to let the little girl go to a place as far away as Shu State all by herself.

Especially since her injury hadn’t fully healed!

Before Shen Ningning could even react, the Black Wolf King dropped her into a pool filled with Spiritual Spring Water.

"GLUG GLUG GLUG..." She choked on several mouthfuls of water.

Shen Ningning flailed her little arms, grabbing the edge of the pool to climb out. "Langlang, don’t stop me!"

Her small, chubby, fair-skinned foot had just hooked the edge when the Black Wolf King nudged her back into the pool with his head.

"Awooooo!" he growled, losing his temper. He was strongly demanding that Shen Ningning rest and heal properly, forbidding any long-distance travel.

The Black Wolf King’s howls could be heard clearly throughout the entire mountain estate.

Wolf Three and Lang Si cowered nearby, not daring to approach.

’Wolf Father is angry. No one go near him, or you’ll get bitten!’

Grandma Qin had just returned from a stroll in Xiangyun Village when she heard the Black Wolf King’s earth-shaking howls.

She quickly followed the sound and found Shen Ningning swimming back and forth in the pool. No matter which side she tried to climb out from, the Black Wolf King would stop her, nudging her back in with his head.

Finally, the little girl was panting from exhaustion. "Langlang, I give up! You win!"

Grandma Qin hurried over. "What’s going on?"

Seeing Grandma Qin, Lang Si and the others finally dared to come closer.

The Black Wolf King continued to howl, his cries echoing through the mountain forest. Grandma Qin couldn’t understand him, but Shen Ningning shook her little head helplessly. "Grandma, Langlang is tattling on me to you."

"He doesn’t want me to go to Shu State. He wants me to stay home and recover from my injury."

Grandma Qin was surprised.

She knew, of course, that Shen Ningning had come back injured last night; she had even helped clean the wound.

But what was this about going to Shu State?

After some gentle questioning, Shen Ningning explained the reason.

"I have to go to Shu State to make it rain. Otherwise, Brother will have suffered for five days in the Sunlight Tower for nothing."

After listening, Grandma Qin said, "But it already rained in Shu State last night."
