Chapter 13: Chapter 13: What is Truth?
Seven days later, Andre looked at the two Magic Stones in his hand and breathed a sigh of relief. For the past seven days, he had been constantly taking on various tasks, targeting ones that were somewhat dangerous but still manageable.
He had done the task of gathering Phosphorescent Grass five times alone. By the fifth time, Andre even felt like he was playing a computer game.
The task refreshed daily, always at night, and only disappeared after he had completely stripped the Burial Bone Forest of its Phosphorescent Grass.
When he turned in the task for the third time, he even asked the old man at the Task Hall if his teacher had posted it specifically for him. The old man just shook his head and said it was from a Wizard who researched Fire Element Witchcraft.
"Nineteen tasks, 2.4 Magic Stones, sensed Spiritual Power, all in seven days!"
Andre tallied up everything he had done and gained over the past seven days.
His greatest achievement during those seven days was finally sensing the Spiritual Power in his mind, accomplished by combining stressful tasks with his Meditation Technique.
’I would never do that again.’
Andre sat at the entrance to the Wizard Inheritance Hall, looking at the Magic Stones in his hand and sighing to himself.
On his fourth trip to the Burial Bone Forest to dig for Phosphorescent Grass, a skeleton had suddenly appeared, nearly scaring him to death.
Fortunately, he had the Magic Energy Shovel he’d bought with Magic Stones. After snapping out of his shock, he gathered his courage and smashed the skeleton to pieces with the shovel.
It was precisely this scare that allowed him to have his first breakthrough with the Meditation Technique.
’Next, I need to follow the Meditation Technique’s instructions, command my Spiritual Power, and weave my very own Spirit Rune.’
Andre unrolled the Beast Hide Scroll. He looked over its contents, intending to try and focus his Spiritual Power.
Suddenly, an immense force came from behind, yanking him directly into the Wizard Inheritance Hall.
"Master!" Andre staggered a few steps as the great force vanished. Once he steadied himself, he saw Radak standing before him.
"That was quick. You’ve already sensed your Spiritual Power."
Radak glanced at Andre’s eyes, and a smile broke through his stern expression.
"It seems you won’t be needing the Potions I prepared for you!"
Radak waved his hand, and a small wooden box descended from above. Andre scrambled to catch it. The moment he did, the sound of glass clinking came from inside.
"Go on, open it!" Radak gestured. Andre opened the box to find twelve Potions inside, arranged in three groups of four, each group a different color.
"These four blue ones are Talent Potions. They can raise your Spiritual Power Talent from the Fourth Level Limit to Level 5. These four purple Potions are for stimulating Spiritual Power, but you have no use for them now, so you can do with them what you will. And these four red ones are Enhancing Potions." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"If you want to use the Talent Potions, you’d best consume these four Enhancing Potions first to build up your physical strength. Otherwise, the Talent Potion will very likely blow your head off."
"It’s that serious?" Andre stared at the Potions in the box, his jaw agape. This was the first time he had ever heard of a Potion that could make your head explode.
"Talent Potions are different from other Potions. They act directly upon your Soul. The Soul is the most fragile part of a person; the slightest change can mean the difference between life and death."
"The Enhancing Potions are for your body. When your body is strengthened, your Soul will also grow stronger in turn."
"All this knowledge is on the bookshelves. From now on, besides practicing your Meditation Technique, you need to study this information. Otherwise, carrying on like you were, wandering around the academy with a map, just doing tasks... when would you ever save up enough Magic Stones!"
Radak’s words left Andre stunned.
"Master, you knew all about it?"
Andre scratched his head, embarrassed.
"Of course I knew. I even know how the others curse me and what they say about me after they leave."
Radak said with a smiling nod.
"But they still have to come to me for my guidance, to have me correct their mistakes. The reason is simple: I have mastered all the knowledge within the Wizard Inheritance Hall."
"Aside from the Dean, I can identify the problems of everyone else—including the several Vice Deans—at a single glance. So, no matter what I say, they have to listen, however unwilling they may be. That is the Power of knowledge and Truth."
As Radak spoke, his wrinkled face was filled with a triumphant grin. Juxtaposed with his wrinkles, the smile looked particularly terrifying.
"Master, what is Truth?"
Andre asked, looking at Radak with curiosity.
Ever since his Talent assessment, he had heard people mention Truth, but he had never understood what it was. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"Truth is the world, the Star Realm, and even the infinite cosmos!"
"The blowing wind, the falling rain, flowing water, burning fire—these material properties and natural phenomena are also Truth. But this is merely the primary form of Truth, relevant only to Wizards below the rank of Level 4 Great Wizard."
"For Great Wizards of Level 4 and above, these simple Truths no longer satisfy their thirst for Truth. They have already touched upon another plane of existence."
At this, Radak couldn’t help but let out a wistful sigh.
"The existence of common Truth allows the Wizard World to produce a great number of Official Wizards every year. As long as one’s Talent is up to standard and they have enough resources, becoming an Official Wizard by following the path of those who came before isn’t difficult."
"The difficulty lies in what comes next. After enjoying the convenience provided by their predecessors, they must suddenly rely on themselves. Many Wizards who were simply propped up by resources find themselves utterly dumbfounded."
Their understanding of Truth is superficial; they know the ’what,’ but not the ’why.’
These Wizards often understand the Ladders of Truth of their predecessors, but when it comes time for them to build their own, they find themselves in a predicament.
This predicament arises because everyone perceives the world and Truth in their own unique way.
Even if two people become Official Wizards by following the exact same Ladder of Truth, their different perspectives on the world and on Truth itself mean one might continue to ascend, while the other remains trapped as a Level 1 Wizard for life.
Because of this, these Wizards are forced to spend immense amounts of time filling the gaps in their knowledge and completely reshaping their perception of Truth!
This is also why, in the Wizard World, one often sees Official Wizards, but rarely encounters Level 2 or Level 3 Wizards.
