Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Teacher
"The professor of Demon Pattern Study, Radak. Tsk, tsk. You’re really in for it now!"
When Diana heard about Krell’s arrangement for Andre, she gave him a pitying look.
"Miss Diana, is this Master Radak terrifying?"
Andre asked cautiously.
"No, he’s not terrifying in the slightest. To use a phrase from another world, he’s just very... single-minded."
Diana shook her head, led Andre out of the castle, and arrived at a magnificent hall built from giant stone blocks.
As soon as Andre entered the hall, he was greeted by the sight of endless bookshelves. "So many books!"
The shelves were filled with all kinds of knowledge-recording artifacts: stone tablets, parchments, various animal hides, and the grass-pulp paper that was common in the current era.
"Diana, what are you doing here?"
The moment Diana set foot in the hall, an ancient voice echoed from among the bookshelves.
Along with the voice, ripples of blue light shimmered in the air. When they vanished, an old man stood before Andre and Diana.
"It’s been a long time, Master Radak!"
Diana greeted Radak, the guardian of the Wizard Inheritance Hall, with a bow.
This elder had spent his entire life researching Demon Patterns, one of the most fundamental aspects of a Wizard’s path. In the past, many seemingly insurmountable problems faced by other Wizards had been solved by none other than Master Radak himself.
She, too, had sought his help to solve many of her own problems in the past.
"It has been a long time. But, weren’t you supposed to be recruiting new blood?"
Radak nodded. Reaching out, he pulled a chair from thin air, placed it beneath him, and promptly sat down.
"I recruited a special new talent, and the Vice Dean asked me to bring him to you."
As Diana spoke, she pushed Andre forward into Radak’s field of view.
"What is a new recruit doing here? A brat who hasn’t even learned the basic Meditation Technique... Has Krell studied Witchcraft so much he’s gone soft in the head?"
Radak’s face was filled with disdain as he looked at Andre.
"His name is Andre. He has a Fourth Level Limit Spiritual Power Talent, a Thunder Element Talent, and he has awakened the Talent Witchcraft, Eye of Truth."
When Diana finished listing Andre’s qualifications, Radak’s expression grew serious. frёewebnoѵēl.com
"Are you telling the truth? You’d better not be lying to me!"
Radak’s voice held a trace of excitement, but also a hint of caution.
"It’s true. The Vice Dean tested him personally!"
Diana nodded. Seeing that Diana didn’t seem to be lying, Radak slowly rose from his chair. He walked over to Andre, reached out his hand, and a beam of white light shot into Andre’s eyes.
As the white light washed over him, his own Eye of Truth Witchcraft was activated.
Two metallic discs began to spin ceaselessly in the depths of Andre’s eyes. Seeing this, Radak finally confirmed that Andre had indeed awakened the Talent Witchcraft, Eye of Truth.
"Good, good! That brat Krell didn’t forget about this old man after all! He’s finally sent me an apprentice!"
"You’re Andre, right? From this day forward, I am your teacher, and you are my apprentice." freēwēbnovel.com
Radak reached out and began patting Andre’s shoulder repeatedly. Andre couldn’t help but grimace as he looked at Radak.
Despite Radak’s decrepit appearance, each pat felt forceful enough to shatter Andre’s shoulder blade.
"Well, since I’ve brought him here, I’ll be on my way!"
After saying this, Diana turned and quickly departed from the Wizard Inheritance Hall, showing no trace of the fierceness she’d displayed while arguing for Andre that morning.
"Master! Master! COUGH, COUGH!"
Andre gritted his teeth through a few more pats before he couldn’t stand it any longer. He quickly cried out for Radak to stop; any more and the man would truly break his shoulder.
"Oh, I got carried away in the moment. Goodness, to think I’d get to take on a disciple like you before I die!"
Radak only stopped when he saw Andre coughing incessantly.
Andre coughed for a good while before he recovered, his shoulder throbbing with a fiery pain.
But the moment he saw Radak’s eyes, the pain in his shoulder seemed to fade.
At that moment, Radak’s eyes had turned a deep azure and were fixed on him, staring intently.
"Master, is there something wrong with me?"
Andre asked, looking at Radak cautiously.
"No, I’m just taking a look."
Radak blinked, and his eyes instantly reverted from deep azure to a murky, grayish-yellow.
’Nothing? Yeah, right!’
Andre scoffed inwardly. He wouldn’t believe for a second that nothing was amiss.
’Don’t tell me he saw my Bloodline!’
The thought made Andre’s heart leap into his throat. If Radak discovered the Divine Bloodline he possessed, he could only imagine the grim fate that awaited him.
"On the way here, you should have read the books on how to become a Wizard Apprentice, correct?"
Radak ambled back to his chair and sat down before looking at Andre and asking his question.
"I have. The books said that to become a Wizard Apprentice, one must cultivate a Meditation Technique. By using the Meditation Technique, you convert Spiritual Power into Spirit Runes to strengthen it. Once all of your Spiritual Power has been converted into Spirit Runes, you can then sense Magic Power."
"Once you can sense Magic Power, you are an Elementary Wizard Apprentice. When you can retain Magic Power in your body for extended periods and cast some Level 0 Witchcraft, you become a High Level Wizard Apprentice. The most important part of this whole process is increasing the number of Spirit Runes!"
"The more Spirit Runes you have, the more Magic Power you’ll have, and the more Level 0 Witchcraft you can cast."
Andre recalled the books he had read on the Flying Vessel, reciting everything they contained about Wizard Apprentices.
"Mm, very good. With a studious attitude like that, the Wizard Apprentice stage will be no obstacle for you. But do you know why Spiritual Power must be converted into Spirit Runes, rather than being used to sense Magic Power directly?"
Radak began Andre’s first lesson. Andre instinctively shook his head.
"It’s because Spirit Runes are far more efficient at perceiving and manipulating Magic Power than raw Spiritual Power. It’s also a method suitable for most people who possess a Wizard’s Talent."
After giving the answer, Radak pulled a Beast Hide Scroll from within his robes.
"This is the Meditation Technique I’m giving you. Study it carefully. Once you have it memorized, just practice according to what’s written. I’ll check on your progress in a few days."
With that, Radak tossed the Beast Hide Scroll to Andre and vanished from sight.
’This... isn’t this a bit too sloppy? Why does this feel like some kind of amateur operation?’
Andre scrambled to catch the Beast Hide Scroll. Staring at the spot where Radak had vanished, he felt a sense of utter helplessness.
He had a sinking feeling that his days ahead at the White Sea Wizard Academy were going to be tough.
