Chapter 90: Recruits [Part 12]

Richard stared down at the witch who the corrupt idiot claimed to be one of the ringleaders in the control of the Philippines.

The story he got was quite intriguing, from witch doctors who specialize in manipulation to government officials being just a big system of nobility in the modern day.

The only thing democratic about it was that the elected presidents were selected by a council of experts, half of them leaders of the mystics factions in the Philippines and the remaining half were the top wealthy elite.

Richard was amazed at what he heard but also curious.

What kind of mystical forces were capable of evading the people who were targeting mystics?

The man had no answer as to how that was done, all he knew was that the witch doctors were VERY serious in ensuring that not a single foreign mystic would enter the country.

As much as Richard wanted to learn more, the man had almost zero knowledge about mystics.

Unlike the FMC that seemed to have built deep ties with the government and ensured that regular humans could at least contend with mystics. The state of this country was far from that.

While on the surface it looked like the mystics and the elite were on equal footing-

The reality was that the mystics took a higher position.

Moreover, the fact that the man did not seem bothered by such a situation led Richard to believe that the hypnosis was not only done to the common people but also to the elite.

In other words, the Philippines had become the Paradise of the nations Mystics.

Recalling the state of Hana’s captive, Richard couldn’t help but marvel at her preparedness.

Whether Hana was aware of her abilities or not, Richard was sure to praise her and adapt her techniques to his future operations.

After getting every bit of information he could from the man, Richard called for Hana to bring the captive.

From the man’s explanation, the witch was called Samantha Gonzalez.

A northern witch, while she had a spanish last name, her roots were closer to the native people than any other in the country.

Yet Richard couldn’ t help but wonder what type of natives really lived in the Philippines as he saw the woman once more.

Ignoring her mangled limbs, Richard took note of her smooth white skin and long black hair.

Richard was not racist but he had a certain expectation when talking about "Southeast Asian natives".

While others would equate anything Asian to be Chinese/Korean/Japanese, Richard was well aware that the "Asian demographic" was far more diverse than just the standard Chinese looking fellas.

In fact, the three popular countries that dominate the image of "Asian" are actually just a single large population with different ethnic groups.

Chinese, Japanese and Koreans- despite hating each other, are strongly related genetically. They are even closer in genetic relations than other Southeast Asian nations.

The south east asian nations have populations that are largely dominated by genetic roots that tie them back to Austronesian ancestors while the more famous Chinese, Japanese and Korean populations have roots with Northern East Asian groups from Mainland China.

Despite many historians rejecting it due to cultural wars and such, the reality was there in the genetics.

Richard didn’t really dive deep into those things though as that was all he knew.

After all, the racism involving the asian nations was a funny and interesting topic to read thorough.

That said, the woman before him, Samantha Gonzalez was quite the... anomaly.

She had features that looked pretty much like the Northern East Asian genetics, but her figure was a bit more... meaty-

Although she tried to hide it with her robes, now that her limbs were broken, her legs were laid bare and Richard could see the larger and thicker structures she had.

It was not only her muscles, her bones were obviously thicker than normal.

She was short and her facial structure had that "Austronesian heritage".

Finally, her name was a combination of English and Spanish roots, proof of the occupation of Spain and the subsequent transfer of domain to the US before the country was free.

An interesting history lesson which Richard read through while investigating this nation during the interrogation.

Of course, now that she was before him, the first thing he did was ask for her blindfold to be removed.

While the man claimed that the witch had no spell that involved eye contact, Richard was confident in his own defense.

Especially against a witch who did not bear any mystical blood.

Though that lack of mystical origins made Richard even more interested in her techniques.

He wanted to see them in action-

Was it through sight?

Hearing?

Scent?

Richard wanted to know her methods, the technique that controlled a whole nation for years and manipulated even the politicians that should have been their allies.

Yet he was disappointed when he realized that she literally had no technique to show whatsoever.

If that wasn’t enough, she was even shocked to see the man who was her puppet in a "bad state". ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Seeing her reaction Richard couldn’t help but wonder if the man was ultimately lying-

But he had a spell casted on him...

Then it hit Richard-

If the man was under the impression that they were on equal footing with the witches who were obviously manipulating them- what stopped the truly powerful witches from sending out substitutes to take their place in negotiations?

After all, why would a powerful witch or mystic come out when they had people who could do their work for them?

All they needed was a "show", anyone would do and when his mind reached such a thought he turned to the witch and asked-

"A witch getting shocked over this? Are you a trainee?"

His thought on it was simple...

How could a witch react to a little bit of gore?

Unfortunately, Richard did not know that the people who he was with were not the "standard" but the "exceptions" to the rule.

Still, it didn’t really help that Richard’s knowledge of witchcraft and wizardry was based on internet knowledge, history books and other non-mystic sources.

The people he encountered matched the "evil mystic" archetype that is propagated by mass media.

They were the type of witches that bathed in blood, summoned devils and did other gruesome things with a smile. That was his "perception" of these mystical actors and it was reinforced by the people he met. freeweɓnovel.cøm

From Cindy who had literal aberrations under her command and treated them as "cute pets".

To Yuna who was a city girl on the surface but a witch who would laugh at the suffering of others in secret.

Even the trainee witches who Richard knew of were from the group fostered by Morgana.

The FMC also didn’t give Richard any "good impressions" with their secrecy and the bunker that’s hidden in the middle of the city.

Finally were the Salem Witches who targeted his sperm and Nova Munda whose poster girls were Hana and Tanya.

If that weren’t enough, his short stint in Japan led him to get stabbed by an immortal witch, see a literal God appear and then he himself became a nephilim.

Richard’s mystical journey was just one shocker after another, now, he believed that crazy shit in the mystical world was a norm.

This cultivated a mindset that made anything "mundane" in the mystical world to be suspicious.

Which is why he was even more wary of the witch who looked like your average woman in her late 20’s.

Something was not adding up and Richard really wished that Nyx was there but she wasn’t.

Unfortunately, he didn’t really need to have Nyx net to him 24/7 since he already had a good grasp of the teleportation spell.

The knowledge Merlin gave him along with the experience and a bit of creativity allowed Richard to quickly adapt to the magic around him.

This made him less dependent on Nyx which the goddess used as a reason to go out on her own excursions.

Richard didn’t want her to go out in fact, after all, he still didn’t know what the hell she was planning but he couldn’t really stop her.

Their pact did not give him control over Nyx and Nyx also didn’t have full control over him.

They had a connection but not something so strong that if one died, the other would follow.

Even now, Richard was sure that Nyx was cooking up some huge trouble but he could care less about it at this point.

Ever since he became a pseudo nephilim and lost the obsession he had for his deceased lover, Richard found himself swimming through a thick fog.

He thought he had himself figured out but hiding away gave his mind a bit of time to think.

Fortunately, the matter of the witches in the Philippines came just in time for him to escape such cyclic thoughts.

Looking down at the woman who was staring at him with fear and panic, he asked again-

"Are you a trainee or not?"

*Shake*

"So you’re a top witch?"

"Then why the hell are you so scared of that?"

Richard pointed at the man who should be dead but was still alive and had his organs spilling out of his body.

Samantha turned away like a child who didn’t want to see a scene of horror.

"Say... is this the power of this country’s mystics?"

Seeing her actions, Richard had a sudden premonition as he asked and the answer he got was-

*NOD*
