Chapter 88: Recruits [Part 10]

While Hana was pondering on how to go about her final task for this mission, the targets she was aiming for had arrived.

They rode on a black luxury vehicle that Hana was familiar with but can’t really recall the name of.

Despite working with some rather high profile people, Hana did not work with people who used such luxury vehicles. Instead, the cars she was familiar with were all standard fair that had been adjusted to suit the dangers that it would be subjected to.

Compared to those people, the individuals who had just arrived at the manor were obviously the type to show off their wealth.

Seeing them like that, Hana felt it really funny to think that such people were the same voices who called out corruption and greed with a passion.

It was the typical "pot calling the kettle black" situation but it was not too funny given the fact that it was happening right before her eyes.

"The leader of the opposition party that fights for the welfare and protection of the lower class... if I remember correctly, their platform revolved around the fact that they knew the struggles of the lower classes... but their family’s wealth goes back several generations and they probably don’t even know the meaning of "being in debt"... well, given that their debt would always lead them to being put behind bars..."

Hana had done quite an extensive background check on her targets. Though the information she had was largely provided by the system provided by Richard.

"Hm? They’re not alone?"

The shaman paused, as she found that other people came with the family.

Individuals she had no knowledge or information on, fortunately, they didn’t seem to be mystics as they didn’t detect Hana.

That or they were low level mystics who have never experienced true conflict between mystical groups.

Still, Hana was not going to give up her task just because of a few additional people. Though that didn’t mean that she would let her guard down.

Samantha Gonzales, a famous mystic in the Philippines sighed as she followed the leader of the opposition party into his home.

This was not some clandestine meeting but an important meeting between a leader of the political sphere and the mystical world.

The reason for this meeting was obvious, the recent explosion of information about mystics had affected all developed nations.

Thankfully, the Philippines did not fall under the radar of these unknown powers causing chaos on the global stage.

In fact, there were some worries among the lawmakers and the larger international community as even nations like Indonesia were affected by the witch hunts.

Fortunately, the Vatican remained largely untouched and the leaders of the Philippines and the Filipino people themselves believed that their lack of witch activity stemmed from their colonial roots.

Already, politicians are going around spouting bullshit about how the 300 year spanish occupation had completely rooted out the evil witchcraft from the country.

The few practitioners in the provinces claim to have mystical powers but their statements were proven to be lies after they failed to show off any mystical feat.

Around the world, witches, monsters and other supernatural phenomena were appearing.

Videos that capture actual witch sightings, live broadcasts of witch hunts that show the reality of these supernatural powers wielded by a secret society of magic users...

Compared to these, the old men and women who waved around palm leaves claiming that they were fighting off unseen spirits were basically just scammers.

When the world is showing witches that command monsters, manipulate the dead and cause people to drop dead on with simple eye contact-

Someone claiming to be fighting a monster only they could see is just... a delusional idiot.

But what the world does not know is that these "delusional madmen" were basically paid actors.

While their practices were real and rooted in culture and tradition, the real witch doctors in the Philippiines, the mystics who survived through the Spanish Occupation-

They did not survive by maintaining their traditions deep in the jungles or mountains.

No, those mystics were smarter than that.

They hid among the Spanish, their power before the occupation allowed them a bit of wealth and influence which they leveraged to get a "better spot" in society.

The best hiding place is right beside your hunter and the filipino mystics- the witch doctors used that to their advantage.

Through time, they found a place in society that was far more lucrative than just being part of the "wealthy".

Their abilities allowed them various supernatural powers but they forgoed such abilities and focused only on hypnosis, manipulation and deception.

The reason they were not detected was because their mystical abilities revolved around "fitting in".

Of course, using your talents and abilities for your own benefit was absolutely normal. Anyone would try their best to use whatever advantage they had to stay above others.

Life was a zero sum game and the witch doctors knew that so they became members of political movements.

They weren’t the poster children for these parties, they were the background support crew. The guy hired by politicians to push their agenda’s and campaigns. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

After all, psychological manipulation had its limits, even the greatest and most charismatic leaders found themselves dead in their bunkers. Yet the Philippines had gone on for centuries ruled by one political dynasty after another.

The Filipino people were aware of this, they knew it, the senate was filled with people from the same family, so much so that a "Senate Hearing" was called by some as a "Family Gathering for X family".

Government contractors were always from the same group, the same institution.

Whether it was for building roads, agriculture or other government projects-

Everything was done by the same small group of companies.

Where else would you see a beer company constantly building roads? Not funding them, building them directly. The beer company was paid to build roads and bridges-

Some would think it’s crazy, many could see the madness yet... There was limited action taken.

An old politician would be convicted for graft and corruption and yet his son, grandson and granddaughter would all take public office.

A rich business owner who was found to be embezzling public funds through a blood tie with a politician would be put in jail. The aforementioned politician would have not been affected and the business that was built on corruption would have a new name in a few days and everyone would forget about the stolen funds.

Such obvious problems would be brought up over and over again yet all the people do is acknowledge it, complain about it and go about their day after as if nothing happened.

No resolution would be achieved and things just "disappear" from the public eyes.

Many experts and keen eyed Filipinos chose to call this the "stupidity of the Filipino people" but Samantha knew-

The madness that plagued the Philippines did not come from an inherent "idiot gene" within the Filipino people.

It was nothing more than a result of the years of continuous brainwashing and hypnosis employed by the witch doctors, the Filipino mystics who enjoy countless benefits in order to keep the status quo.

"What happened to the graduates?"

Samantha asked casually and the man who was Jon’s father answered-

"Dead, I don’t know what happened to the group that my bastard son led to the north but all the dangerous minds were sent to the south"

"I see, a good way to make use of those foreign mystics huh?"

"Filipino’s hate a lot of things, its hard to get a majority to support something but when you talk about foreign invasion, even brothers who spent years fighting a clan war would settle their difference to fend of the invading forces"

"The large boom in mystical knowledge had little effect on us, but it did cause a stir in the south"

Samantha thought about the recent news about the connection certain religious groups had with mystics.

A question on how people would be deluded enough to sacrifice their lives for a belief exploded on the internet.

Initially, people saw it as a bunch of manipulators taking advantage of delusional youth with little education.

But maybe because of pride, the idea that the religious groups had begun to spread.

Instead of delusional youths who believe that 102 virgins were waiting for them in the afterlife, the story was instead, "witches controlling religious organizations through magic".

It didn’t help that the western world had recently been made aware that the feminist movement was taken over by Salem Witches which led to the explosion of "masculism", a movement that took on the same ideals as feminism but more "male centric".

A purge was happening internationally but within the Philippines, the mystics had already set up their protections.

Not some secret magical base or a mystical barrier that isolated them from the world.

No, their protection was in politics and the politicians that rely on their manipulation to maintain power.

After all, the moment the mystical support of the politicians disappears, their lies would be made evident to the world.

Angry citizens that believe that there exists law and order in the country would finally reach their breaking point.

The anger that had been tamed through suggestion and hypnosis, the brain drain that was enforced through the suggestion of escape to the "smarter people" within the nation...

The order was maintained by turning bright minds into overseas workers that supply USD to the government, resistant minds into insurgents that die in the jungles and the rest of the population into sheep...

Should the mystical support vanish, people would finally see the reality of their nation.

High quality "free education" that segregates "smart and talented" from "average and dumb" citizens.

A simple political structure that creates a constant "People vs Government" dynamic.

This system, the hand that covers the eyes of the Filipino people must not crumble-

"It’s gotten harder to send people to the US but other nations in Europe and even Japan and Korea shows an interest in immigration"

"You want to send them to those racist nations?"

"Not my problem, if they die trying to fit in then so be it, the country doesn’t need rebellious minds after all"

The opposition leader who should be protecting and helping the rebellious minds that could see lies saying such words would cause a media frenzy. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

But the media of the country was controlled by the government and the leading powers.

Small scale creators were easy to pressure and there was little the population could do when the mystics of the country were on the side of corruption.

"The emigration problem is not urgent, what we need to focus on is the immigration situation- specially the illegals"

Samantha could tell that the man was trying to show off his achievements but she wasn’t here for that.

Her main goal was something bigger, an issue that could destroy the whole system that the Philippines relied on to maintain a sense of peace within the country.

"Who would want to illegally enter this country’s garbage dump of a nation?"

The man who would constantly praise the nation, its people and its culture was calling the same nation he praised a dump. His words showed his true opinion of the nation and further made Samantha sigh internally.

While she didn’t have any nationalistic pride to speak of, the problem about the man’s statement was not his disgust of the nation. She felt the same way after all, but the issue she had was his complete disregard of the issue!

"Among all the nations, the Philippines is the only country that does not have a witch hunt ongoing, but that makes us the prime location for escape! Mystics don’t appear with big fireworks, they appear suddenly and without warning, they blend into the world without leaving a trace... between a country that is actively looking for witches and one that is not- where do you think the hunted mystics would go towards?"

This was Samantha’s main issue, the international witch hunt placed many mystics in a bad spot.

Some countries like the US even started an "Active hunt", they weren’t simply capturing anyone that was identified randomly, the US military was actively going around searching for mystics.

The US government even sanctioned private militias and armed groups to conduct their own hunts!

"They’ll come, here- and when that happens-"

The two had long separated from the man’s family and they were now alone in the private meeting room.

Samantha had just started to get to the meeting of the matter when...

"When that happens what?"

A foreign voice echoed in the ears of the man and Samantha.

Panic immediately set in but just as they were about to call for their security, their bodies suddenly felt sluggish and they fell to the floor.

Samantha with her resistance to such influences was able to barely keep conscious.

"I see... so you all took the same route as the FMC... smart but this made you all weak. An average mystic should have noticed the formation I set up... well, I guess that’s what happens when you spec too much in mental interference and stealth"

Those were the last words Samantha heard as her consciousness faded to black.
