Chapter 1206: Chapter 1206: The Ugly Duckling Was Actually Born a Swan

The soup was still steaming, the aroma was rich and the color was beautiful. It was evident that it had been simmering on low heat for at least five hours.

This was Scarlett Yates’ favorite chicken soup with yam; a bit of corn was added, making the broth rich and flavorful, with a slight hint of sweetness.

Back then, as soon as Noah Yates had some free time, he would grab a cookbook to study, all to make sure his wife and child ate a little more every day.

Other men would either play cards or gather with a few friends for karaoke and drinks in their free time. Or they would drive off on their own trips, but only Noah Yates would tie on an apron and dive into the kitchen every day.

The neighbors knew about this and would jokingly say that, as a grown man, he acted more like a woman, spending every day soaked in the kitchen, completely forgetting the saying that a gentleman stays away from the kitchen.

Noah Yates didn’t get upset. He would just smile and reply to them: A gentleman is for the public eye; in front of his wife and daughter, he prefers to be a man without great ambitions.

More than ten years later, Noah Yates’ cooking skills hadn’t regressed a bit.

Now, even though he is the prestigious Mr. Yates, he still willingly cooks for his daughter. Ordinary people would think his dedication was commendable, wouldn’t they?

But Scarlett Yates didn’t feel touched at all.

She looked at the steaming chicken soup on the table and then at Noah Yates’ face, full of affection yet with a hint of guilt. Suddenly, anger rose within her. Her expression darkened, and with a cold smile, she reached out and smashed the bowl of chicken soup Noah had served her onto the floor,

The porcelain bowl shattered on the ground, the sound crisp and piercing, the chicken soup splattered everywhere.

The chicken soup spilled onto the thick carpet, and in no time, it was completely absorbed.

Although Noah Yates hadn’t explained in detail how he met Autumn Spencer or why he left the original family, Scarlett Yates understood the gist.

For reasons she still didn’t know, Noah Yates left his wealthy family.

After leaving the Yates Family, he lost a powerful backing and became just another ordinary person.

He met Autumn Spencer during the time he became ordinary, and later on, he married her.

After marriage, someone in the original family was uneasy about him, perhaps afraid his existence would affect their interests, so they secretly sent people to capture him.

What happened next was the story he had just told.

The person who died was a substitute and Autumn Spencer; the real Noah Yates left the small town where he had lived for over ten years unscathed and never returned.

Even though Scarlett Yates went through such tough and hard times all those years, he never came back to see her.

His reason was that there was danger around him, but was that reason enough for him to abandon his biological daughter, not caring or inquiring for over ten years?

During the time she was immersed in the immense pain of losing family, he didn’t even make a phone call.

If he had sent a text message or used any method to notify her and let her know he wasn’t actually dead, she wouldn’t have been so painfully desperate.

"I never expected that an ordinary ugly duckling like me would actually have the lineage of a swan. Dad, do you think that after hearing this news, I would be overjoyed? Do you think that by giving me some rich lady status and offering some so-called compensation, you can make up for your neglect over the past decade-plus?"
