Chapter 340: Chapter 339: More and More People Are Experiencing the Extraordinary
The airport runway had been cleared. The panicked passengers hadn’t noticed a thing, but the flight crew, the staff in the airport control tower, and the fire and rescue teams standing by were all reeling with questions.
’How is this possible!?’
The plane’s landing defied the laws of physics. This was a massive aircraft weighing over a hundred tons, not a paper airplane folded by some kid!
Gliding at such a low speed, it should have stalled and dropped out of the sky long ago!
And it touched down with zero impact?
The staff in the control tower knew better than anyone: the plane had shut down all its engines while it was still in the air!
Seeing the bizarre state of the plane, if it weren’t broad daylight with the sun shining brightly, they would’ve sworn they were looking at a ghost flight straight out of a horror movie.
The fire and rescue personnel were standing not far from the plane. Or rather, it seemed the plane had deliberately landed near them. They couldn’t help but exchange glances, an inexplicable chill creeping up their spines. For a moment, none of them dared to move forward.
Just then, the control tower received a transmission from the flight’s captain. "The plane has landed safely!"
"What happened to your flight?" a tower controller immediately asked.
"I... if I told you I encountered..."
Before the captain could finish, the head of Air Traffic Control cut into the channel. "ATC is fully aware of the aircraft’s situation. The mid-air rescue is complete. Have the fire department get everyone off the plane and send all passengers to the hospital for examination."
"Yes, sir!" the tower and the captain replied in unison.
The control tower staff were baffled, but the captain clearly understood.
"Brother Liu! There really are Immortals in this world!" the co-pilot said to the captain, his voice full of disbelief.
"Watch your mouth," the captain warned. "It’s very likely someone will have us sign a non-disclosure agreement when we get off. Don’t go running your mouth."
"I get it!" The co-pilot nodded eagerly, but he still looked incredibly excited, as if the gates to a whole new world had just opened for him.
Meanwhile, the rescue personnel around the aircraft received their orders. They also saw the chief flight attendant appear at the ruptured cabin doorway, waving them over. The fire and rescue teams sped forward to begin the evacuation.
"Thank you! Thank you so much! You’ve all worked so hard!"
"The captain is so skilled! I barely felt a thing toward the end."
"I know, right? The landing was so smooth."
"I’m never flying Boeing again! That was terrifying!"
"But our country’s pilots are incredible. First that time a windshield shattered, and now a cabin door falls off, yet they still manage to land safely. It really gives you peace of mind flying with domestic airlines."
"Still, one did crash a few years ago."
"Bah! Bah! Bah! May the Bodhisattva protect us. He was just talking nonsense. May all our future travels be blessed with good fortune and smooth sailing!"
After watching the passengers disembark in an orderly fashion, the captain and co-pilot left the cockpit. They went to the entryway and stood with the chief flight attendant and the security officer.
"Old Liu, something isn’t right," the chief flight attendant, an experienced middle-aged woman, said to the captain in a low voice. "When the cabin door came off completely, we were still thousands of meters up, but not a single gust of wind blew in!"
The security officer, a middle-aged man, was far more vigilant than the chief flight attendant. He had been right beside the door and had a clear view of the entire landing sequence. He looked at the captain, his gaze profound. "Old Liu, what just happened?"
Then the chief flight attendant noticed that the captain and co-pilot’s expressions were all wrong. "Old Liu?"
"Don’t ask," the captain cut them off. "I can’t talk about it!"
The chief flight attendant and the security officer exchanged a look.
"What could possibly be so secret?" The security officer’s gaze sharpened. "An incident this major will have a thorough investigation, not to mention a public report. What are you trying to hide?"
The captain looked at the security officer. "The cabin door came off, but there was no depressurization. The engines shut down mid-air, but we still landed safely. A passenger jet weighing over a hundred tons landed with no glide distance. The door that fell off mid-flight landed alongside the plane without even damaging the runway..."
"How do you explain any of that?" the captain asked.
The security officer’s cheek twitched. As an air marshal, he knew a thing or two about aviation. But you didn’t need to be an expert to know that the things the captain just listed were impossible; common sense was enough.
’The only explanation is...’
"Did we run into a ghost?" the security officer retorted.
"It was an Immortal!" the co-pilot blurted out.
"Hmm?" The chief flight attendant and the security officer both shot him a look. The co-pilot immediately clapped a hand over his mouth.
"Old Liu!" The security officer clapped a hand on the captain’s shoulder. "What in the world did you two see?"
"I really can’t say..." The captain shot the co-pilot a glare, then shook his head with a wry smile.
The security officer’s eyes glinted. He suddenly asked, "A Daoist?"
The captain flinched. The co-pilot asked subconsciously, "How did you know?"
The security officer’s eyes lit up. "So it really was a Daoist!"
"Damn it, Old Li! You tricked me!" the captain turned and hissed, glancing at the equally stunned chief flight attendant. "I’m going to have to report this. You’ll all be signing NDAs."
"So I’ll sign, so what?" the security officer said nonchalantly. "Since we’re on the subject, just tell me what happened."
"You don’t know already?" The captain rolled his eyes at the security officer.
The security officer chuckled softly. He lowered his voice so only the few of them could hear. "I’ve seen a Yellow Paper Talisman that can stop a bullet."
HISS... Everyone sucked in a sharp breath.
"The general public might not know, but a lot of people have already encountered all sorts of Extraordinary phenomena. There’s no confidentiality requirement between us," the security officer said, raising an eyebrow at the captain and co-pilot.
At this, the co-pilot couldn’t hold it in any longer. "Outside the plane... there was an old Daoist, and he was flying!"
HISS... The security officer and the chief flight attendant both sucked in another sharp breath.
The chief flight attendant couldn’t help but chime in, "So that incident at the Mongolian Mine... it was real?"
As they all turned to her, the chief flight attendant said, "I know another attendant whose family is from the Mongolian Steppe. Ever since that incident at the Mongolian Mine, she’s been carrying a Peace Talisman she got from a Taoist Temple."
The security officer asked, "Does she have family who work at the mine?"
The chief flight attendant nodded. "Her father."
The four of them exchanged glances. It was the co-pilot who spoke first. "So, there really are Immortals in this world?"
"Not necessarily Immortals, but definitely some kind of accomplished Cultivator," the security officer said. "Like Daoists and... others of that sort."
The chief flight attendant swallowed hard. "When we get off, we’re definitely going to have to write reports. Do we... tell the truth?"
The captain scratched his cheek. "Just now, when Xiaozhao was about to report to the tower, the ATC supervisor cut in and shut him down. I suspect they’re already in the know. They’ll probably come to us for the details."
The security officer grinned slyly. "Better give the investigators a heads-up. That way, they won’t go blaming innocent parties."
