Chapter 289: Chapter 288: Envy, Jealousy, and Hatred from Across the Ocean
"WTF!"
In a meeting room on the other side of the ocean, Frank slammed the table again. "Their system has really taken control of this power!"
Several videos were playing on the large screen in the meeting room.
The first video appeared to be shot with a head-mounted camera. The location seemed to be a remote village somewhere in Southeast Asia, where a dark-skinned South Asian man was harshly questioning a middle-aged man.
The next moment, the South Asian man pulled out a pistol and shot the middle-aged man.
But unexpectedly, the middle-aged man was completely unharmed. Instead, he suddenly lunged forward, tackled the South Asian man to the ground, snatched his pistol, and shot him dead.
A group of people around them started firing at the man, but he seemed completely unfazed. The video clearly showed black specks constantly falling around him—bullets that had hit him but had no effect.
And the middle-aged man was only wearing a short-sleeved shirt!
Everyone was stunned. The middle-aged man then started firing the gun in all directions, causing the attackers to cry out and scatter. The person filming also fled. After a few moments, they regrouped with the others and cautiously crept back, but the middle-aged man was already gone.
The second video was apparently from a travel vlogger, who was pointing the camera at himself and a very distinct scenic area entrance behind him. Judging by the style and text, it was a Celestial Xia Mountain Scenic Area.
In the background of the vlogger’s shot, a blond middle-aged man and two black-haired Celestial Xia People appeared, seemingly in conversation.
Just as the vlogger finished his introduction and was about to start his hike, the blond middle-aged man in the background was suddenly thrown back as if he’d been struck by a heavy blow, spitting out a mouthful of blood and tumbling through the air.
The vlogger cried out in alarm and ran over, still filming with his phone. He then saw a security vehicle pull up. With the help of the two Celestial Xia People, the blond man was loaded into the police car and taken to the hospital.
The vlogger highly praised Celestial Xia’s public safety, friendliness, and the authorities’ execution and efficiency before continuing his hike.
"The first video was filmed at a well-known hub for illegal activities in Southeast Asia. The leader of that den discovered the middle-aged man’s identity and tried to silence him, but ended up getting killed by him instead."
The presenter explained, "The second video was filmed by a travel vlogger on YTB. At the time, he was visiting Lao Mountain in Celestial Xia’s Lu Province. The incident in the video took place at the entrance to the Lao Mountain scenic area.
"I must emphasize that Lao Mountain is a famous Daoist mountain on the other side of the ocean. The man who was suddenly sent flying while spitting blood is named Johnson. He is a citizen of Huaqi Country and also a Mage."
"It’s obvious that both the middle-aged man in the first video, who appears to be an undercover agent, and the two men in suits in the second video are part of their system."
If the widespread rainfall that summer could still be explained away as Extraordinary Beings from the other side acting on their own, with no signs of their system’s involvement, then the people in these two videos clearly demonstrated one fact.
"The people in their system have all obtained Extraordinary Power!" Frank said, gritting his teeth.
The first was seemingly invulnerable. The second launched an Attack that sent a man flying.
"They’re just ordinary people. Does that mean... those Extraordinary Beings can give ordinary people Extraordinary Power too?" someone asked, a mixture of fear and anticipation in their eyes.
They all remembered the Thunderbolt at Berkeley!
"It’s probably not that powerful," the presenter said, pointing to the screenshots on the large screen after the video ended. "That middle-aged man still had to use a gun."
But one person remained terrified, as if envisioning a frightening and hopeless scenario. ’The people in their system, or... their army... have they all become invulnerable monsters?’
Everyone sucked in a sharp breath.
"Of course not," the presenter said, shaking his head. "It’s obvious there are strict limits on the number of people who can receive this. Otherwise, they wouldn’t still have people dying in the line of duty so often, and we would have found more than just these two videos."
Everyone let out a sigh of relief, but their hearts still swelled with boundless jealousy and resentment.
’Are you kidding me? Even with limits, if we had this power, we’d definitely get a piece of the action!’
The old man in the lead, however, remained expressionless. He gestured for the presenter to continue. "There’s one more thing."
"What is it?"
"There was a mining accident on their side a few days ago." The presenter switched the large screen to show a news screenshot from across the ocean, with a Huaqi translation next to it.
"An earthquake caused the mine to cave in, and the underground support structures collapsed. Over a hundred people were trapped between 300 and 500 meters underground," the presenter explained.
"They’re dead for sure," someone said, shaking their head.
"When a twelve-story apartment building of ours collapsed, the rescue took a month, and we still couldn’t find more than ten people in the end," someone said with a self-deprecating laugh.
Someone else asked curiously, "What does this have to do with us?"
"It’s related," the presenter said with a nod, then took a deep breath. "Logically speaking, even for them, an incident like this should have resulted in many deaths. But unfortunately, all the trapped personnel emerged the very next morning, and no one was injured."
"What?"
"That’s impossible!"
"Did the Extraordinary Beings intervene?"
"Yes. According to intel from their side, someone saw Daoists at the scene," the presenter said in a low voice.
"FUCK!" Frank was both furious and anxious. "Daoists! Daoists! It’s always Daoists! How are their Daoists so powerful, while the ones in our country are all useless?
"How does an ancient and decadent country like that deserve this kind of power? Why are these Extraordinary Beings Celestial Xia People? Why not Huaqi People? This kind of Extraordinary Being... clearly, only our great Huaqi is worthy of them!"
Someone’s eyes lit up as they suggested, "Find them! We can offer them money, women, power! We can even give them Huaqi Country citizenship! In Huaqi, they can enjoy the most luxurious and wonderful pleasures in the world!"
"But the problem now is that we can’t find them at all!" someone complained. "They have so many Daoists over there. Are they all Extraordinary Beings?"
Someone shrugged and made a dry joke, "We can’t exactly take out a newspaper ad, can we?"
The meeting room fell silent.
"That kind of Extraordinary Power... is already in the hands of their system!" The speaker’s voice trembled.
Someone else held out a sliver of hope. "Look on the bright side. Maybe it’s not control, just a deep partnership."
Everyone was speechless. "That’s pretty much the same thing..." freёwebnoѵel.com
"Regardless, we must also establish our own Extraordinary Power." The old man in the lead tapped the table. "On one hand, we need to find those Extraordinary Beings from their side, build an information database, and find ways to counter them. On the other hand, we need to hire domestic Extraordinary Beings and form a corresponding agency.
"Their Extraordinary Beings have never been this powerful in history. Perhaps our own Extraordinary Beings will also suddenly become powerful... right?"
