Chapter 410: Chapter 410: Yanxi 18

The students counting money nearby all quieted down to listen to Li Xiuzai talk about how he made money. ’So Senior Li is really learning about computers from our teacher? He can already make money online on his own?’

In that moment, the eyes of the four students sparkled. ’Who doesn’t want to make money these days?’

Tan You said, "Let’s take it one step at a time. You want to study computer science in college?"

Li Xiuzai thought for a moment before shaking his head. "I want to major in mathematics and minor in computer science."

Tan You smiled. "That’s a good idea, but mastering mathematics isn’t so easy. What about the rest of you? What do you all want to major in when you go to college?"

She had a clear understanding of her students’ academic performance. As long as they didn’t choke during the exams, getting into a public university was a sure thing. Since everyone was here, it was a good time to help them plan out their future paths.

Song Yuan thought for a moment. "As for me, I’m pretty materialistic. I just want to make money. I want to start my own business."

Tan You smiled. "Want to be a tycoon?"

"I want to be a rich person with a conscience and principles. Being a tycoon? No thanks," Song Yuan said, respectfully declining. "I just want to show everyone that not all wealthy people are unprincipled, that they can also take on social responsibility."

Tan You was genuinely a little surprised. "That’s a very good idea. If you run into any questions on your entrepreneurial journey, you can come ask me."

Song Yuan was perfectly composed. "I know. Teacher, you can do anything. If I decide to start a business, I’ll definitely come to you first. If even you aren’t optimistic about it, I certainly won’t rush into it."

Zheng Xue said enthusiastically, "If you start a business, I’ll invest. I won’t interfere with your vision."

Jin Li blinked. "Me too. Out of all of us, you’re the best at making money. Before we started studying with our teacher, he used to sell trinkets at school. He’s always been great at making a profit."

The others all raised their hands in unison, clearly showing they had great faith in Song Yuan.

Tan You said, "That’s great. You all can discuss the details among yourselves. Just remember, when you start a business with partners, it’s almost inevitable that conflicts over money will arise down the line. Your intentions are pure now, but once you enter the real world, you’ll face many more temptations."

"For instance, what if Song Yuan’s business becomes successful, he gets married, and his wife doesn’t approve of him essentially working for all of you? What would you do then?"

Song Yuan shot a quick glance at Jin Li. "That won’t happen. If she tried to destroy the bond between us, I wouldn’t be with her in the first place."

Tan You clearly understood the meaning behind his glance. She lowered her eyes and smiled. "We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. Speaking of which, the college entrance exam results should be out in a few days."

"Once the results are out, you’ll be college students-to-be. What do you plan to do during the few months of vacation you’ll have? Still plan on running the stall?"

Song Yuan answered without hesitation, "Of course. We’ve already talked it over with our families. We want to use these few months of vacation to spend more time with you, Teacher. Once we go off to college, we won’t be able to see you as often."

Tan You found this a bit amusing. "What are phones for, then?"

Jin Li whined playfully, "But I just want to be with you, Teacher. I can’t bear to leave you. Besides my parents, you’re the kindest person to me in the whole world."

Tan You steered the conversation back on track. "Xiuzai and Song Yuan both have their own goals. What about the rest of you? Jin Li, do you still yearn for a life in the spotlight?"

Jin Li thought for a moment. "I still really love to dance. While I’m young and able, I think I’ll chase my dream of dancing. As for the entertainment industry, I don’t want to get into it."

"Just like you said, Teacher, I can make a fortune as a streamer."

Zheng Xue raised her hand. "As for me, I want to study accounting and then work my way through the certification exams. I hear certified public accountants make a pretty high salary."

Of the remaining students, one wanted to become a lawyer, and another was clearly more interested in engineering. It was safe to say that every one of them now had their own goal and was actively working to achieve it.

"I’m very happy that you all have plans for your lives," Tan You concluded. "Setting goals for yourselves is a good thing, but don’t just set them without taking action. Otherwise, all the planning in the world will be for nothing."

"We understand," Jin Li said, resting her head on Tan You’s lap. "Meeting you in our lives has been the greatest fortune, Teacher. I’ve been thinking lately, if I hadn’t met you, what would my future be like?"

"Would I have still met Zhao Gui? Would my life be miserable by now?"

Tan You stroked Jin Li’s forehead. "Those are things that never happened. Why are you scaring yourself for no reason? You just have to remember that this is your real life. Everything else is just an illusion."

Jin Li blinked back the redness in her eyes. "Mm, I understand."

Her mood came and went quickly. "Teacher, do you think we can still run the stall during our breaks when we’re in college? I want to earn some more money."

Tan You naturally had no objections. "You’ve all absorbed so much here over the past two years; you’re more than capable of running a stall on your own. Otherwise, why would your families’ businesses keep changing all the time? I’ve never said anything to stop you, have I?"

Zheng Xue said, "I know it’s because you’ve been looking out for our families, Teacher. Things have really gotten much better at home these past two years. When I went back yesterday, I even heard my dad say he’s planning to look at properties near the university. They want to buy a house for me."

These students were all only children, and their parents clearly doted on them. Besides, now that they had money, they naturally wanted to give their children a better life.

Jin Li raised her hand. "My mom told me the same thing."

Li Xiuzai and the others exchanged a glance. "Our parents all said the same."

Song Yuan smiled. "Actually, our parents all keep in touch with each other. I guess when one of them gets an idea, they all end up thinking the same thing. If we all help each other out, our moms and dads won’t have to worry about us while they’re at home."

"And they’ll be able to focus on their businesses with more peace of mind."

The newer students listened, completely captivated. ’The seniors are already about to get their own houses? I’m so jealous!’

Jin Li added casually, "As long as you study hard with our teacher, you’ll have all this too. My family used to be really poor. Our teacher was the one who guided my parents to start running a stall, and she’d have them switch up their products from time to time. Anyway, they make way more money now than they would at a regular job."

Tan You said, "You can’t really compare them. A regular job has fixed hours, but your parents run their own business, driving a food truck all over the place. How many hours of rest do they get each day?"

Zheng Xue countered, "But they’re earning money entirely for themselves. Even though the hours are longer, they’re much happier."

Tan You said, "If your parents go house-hunting, have them give me a call. I’m planning to buy a house too, so we can check them out together and get each other’s opinions."

"You’re buying another house, Teacher?" Jin Li plopped onto Tan You’s shoulder. "Teacher, you’re so rich! How do you make money so fast?"

Zheng Xue glanced at Li Xiuzai. "Now Xiuzai’s going to be even more excited."

Li Xiuzai wasn’t embarrassed at all. "The thought that I’ll be able to make as much money as our teacher someday is exciting."

Tan You said matter-of-factly, "Xiuzai will be even more brilliant than I am. I’m not as naturally gifted with computers as you are."
