Chapter 404: Chapter 404: Yanxi 12
Officer Cui understood what Tan You was getting at. "I’ll convey your message. Also, try to do less of this sort of thing in the future."
Tan You smiled. "Got it. From now on, if anyone gives me trouble, I’ll come find you. But after this whole affair, the chaebols will probably have a major shake-up, won’t they? Even if they wanted to cause trouble for me, they’d need to lay low for a while, right?"
"Club No. 1 dragged in most of the top-tier chaebols."
Officer Cui felt a headache coming on just thinking about it. "We’re going to have our hands full. I’ll have someone take you home. You don’t need to worry about what happens next."
Tan You nodded. "Let the professionals do their job. Besides, it’s not my place to worry about it anymore. I have to take my students to run the stall tomorrow. I’m just so busy."
Officer Cui tapped Tan You on the forehead with his folder. "Go on, get out of here. I won’t tell your dad this time, but you need to stop taking such risks."
"Don’t worry, I’m very good at looking after myself." Tan You made an OK sign. "I’m off. Uncle Cui, come over for dinner when you’re not busy! Bring Auntie with you."
As Tan You left the police station, she glanced back at the building. Nearly every office was lit up. ’They must be trying to nail down the case before anyone else has a chance to react,’ she figured.
Mayor Wu’s downfall was sure to implicate many others. And that didn’t even touch on Park Youren’s syndicate; their web of connections was undoubtedly far more complex. Now that they’d been captured, how would all the other flies caught in that web save themselves?
Too bad none of that was her business anymore. Tan You whistled a tune and drove her little food truck straight home.
The Beauty System was perched on the passenger seat. "Host, I really thought you were going to deal with them yourself."
"Lousy idea," Tan You said softly. "No one is above the law. It’s not my place to judge Park Youren and his cronies for their crimes. I just gave them a little push."
"So you sent the files to Officer Cui well in advance?" The Beauty System wasn’t a complete idiot. Now that Tan You had said it, the system started to piece things together.
"Of course. He’s my dad’s old classmate, after all, and he’s always so conscientious. It would be a waste not to use a good connection like that." Tan You gazed at the nearly empty street. "He was more reliable than I expected, though. He actually brought that many officers. I was a little surprised myself when I saw them."
"You didn’t look surprised at all to me," the Beauty System muttered.
Tan You replied, "That’s because I have you, isn’t it? With you around, is there anything I *don’t* know? You’re the best, System!"
At Tan You’s praise, the Beauty System’s almond eyes crinkled shut. It wanted to act composed, to put on an air of being unfazed by flattery, but the little system just couldn’t hold it in.
It spun around in circles on the passenger seat until it made itself dizzy. Then, with a FLOP, it collapsed onto the upholstery, its eyes even forming comical spirals.
A smile crept onto Tan You’s face as she watched the Beauty System’s antics. ’Life is a lonely journey,’ she thought. ’Having this little thing around—who can’t handle a compliment and loves to act cute—really does make things a lot more fun.’
The arrest of Park Youren and his associates had no effect on Tan You’s life. She continued her quiet routine as a high school math teacher, tutoring students on weekdays and taking them to run the food stall on weekends.
She had already cleared the food stall with the school. After all, Country H was a tiny nation; you could bump into someone you knew almost anywhere. A public servant running a business on the side wasn’t a good look.
However, if the students were running it themselves with Tan You merely supervising, then there was no issue. And Tan You could certainly withstand any scrutiny, as all the finances were handled by the students. She didn’t touch the money at all.
Jin Li had no idea what had happened to Zhao Gui and his cronies; she only knew that he hadn’t been bothering her lately, which made her life much more peaceful. But that didn’t mean she had it easy. Take, for instance, right now.
"Teacher, it hurts so much! I can’t hold it anymore!" Jin Li was in a full split with her torso pressed flat against the floor, but Tan You was still pushing down on her shoulders. Jin Li’s eyes welled with tears from the pain as she begged for mercy.
Tan You was relentless. "You want to learn how to dance, don’t you? How can you do that without mastering the fundamentals? I told you from the start I was a strict teacher."
"Yes, a strict teacher," Jin Li said through gritted teeth, struggling to press her torso even closer to the floor. "Teacher, is there anything you can’t do? When will I ever be able to dance like you?"
Tan You gave a wry smile. "Life isn’t easy. You have to be versatile, right? Since you still have the energy to gossip about me, you must have some strength left. Let’s add another hour of practice today."
Zheng Xue peeked in and couldn’t help but shiver. "That looks so painful. Jin Li is tougher than I thought."
Song Yuan was also peering around the doorframe. "How can she be so flexible? She just went right down into it."
Zheng Xue replied, "If you think she’s flexible, you should see our teacher. She’s incredibly flexible, but also so powerful. Too bad I’m as stiff as a board. I’ll probably never be able to dance that beautifully in my entire life."
A few students were clustered around the doorframe, watching Tan You "torture" Jin Li until she was wailing. All her composure was gone; the corners of her eyes were red, and her face was streaked with tears.
Zheng Xue shook her head. "Seriously, seeing Jin Li go through this makes you realize nothing comes easy. I didn’t think she’d be able to stick with it."
Li Xiuzai added quietly, "She loves dancing so much, how could she give up that easily? I heard she wants to be a streamer someday. She just wants people to praise her and pay attention to her."
"That’s a good thing, I guess. Come on, let’s get back to it," Song Yuan said, draping an arm over Li Xiuzai’s shoulder. "You’re studying computer science, Jin Li’s learning to dance, and I’m just going to focus on my studies and try to get into a public university."
Li Xiuzai kept pace with him. "I’m also aiming for a public university. Teacher said you can learn computer science anytime, but you only get to live through high school once. I have to take this chance while I’m still her student to work hard and get into a good university."
Zheng Xue chimed in, "Don’t think Jin Li is just focused on dancing. She’s aiming for a public university too. Teacher said that if you don’t know what you want to do with your future, you should just get a doctorate first."
"But you have to get into a university before you can get a Ph.D., so that’s what we’re all aiming for."
Hearing her students’ quiet discussion outside and seeing that Jin Li was about at her limit, Tan You finally let go. "Go take a shower. It’ll be time to head out to the stall soon."
Jin Li collapsed on the floor, gasping for breath. "Teacher, I’m so exhausted. I don’t think I can even lift a finger." freewebnσvel.cøm
Tan You sat down cross-legged beside her. "Running the stall means we can make money..."
Jin Li shot to her feet. "Right! When you mention money, I’m not tired at all! I’ll go shower right now!"
Watching Jin Li disappear into the bathroom, Tan You raised an eyebrow. Then she looked at the human-shaped puddle of sweat on the floor and raised her eyebrow again. ’Did I push her too hard?’ she wondered.
