Chapter 51: Chapter 38: The Scorned Wife of the 50s (38)_2

Zhu Yun dazedly followed her mother-in-law, calling out to relatives. With every greeting, another red envelope was pressed into her hand. In no time, she held a thick stack, and each one felt particularly hefty.

She shot Chu Shenyu a pleading look. No one had told her there would be so many relatives and friends.

It was truly every aunt, uncle, and cousin imaginable!

Chu Shenyu wasn’t faring much better. He had always been the model child that other parents held up as an example, much to the torment of his peers. Why would they ever pass up an opportunity like this?

While the elders sat off to the side, drinking and chatting, the newlyweds were dragged into the bridal chamber for a round of wedding games: eating apples, doing push-ups, and kneeling on a washboard.

Everyone was reluctant to go too hard on the bride, so Zhu Yun gleefully witnessed the utter torment of Mr. Chu.

When they finally survived until dinnertime, Chu Shenyu let out a long sigh of relief. He shot everyone a fierce look and snarled a threat, "You all just wait!"

Those four words sent a shiver down their spines, and they scattered in an instant, vanishing without a trace. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Zhu Yun pursed her lips, fighting back a smile as she looked at the lipstick marks on Chu Shenyu’s face. "Mr. Chu, you should hurry and wash your face and change. We have to head over to the cafeteria now."

Chu Shenyu shot her an irritated glare. "Don’t you feel the least bit sorry for me? You really enjoyed watching them put me through the wringer, didn’t you?"

"If you had just stood up for me a little, they would’ve been too embarrassed to keep going."

She cleared her throat. "I just figured you boys were having a good time. I didn’t want to get in the way of your bonding."

He shut the door and started to take off his clothes.

"Hey, I’m still in here!" Zhu Yun protested weakly, covering her eyes. But the gaps between her fingers were wide, and her sly, fox-like eyes darted around, taking everything in. freewёbnoνel.com

Chu Shenyu had intended to fluster her, but the woman clearly had no concept of looking away politely. Instead, he was the one who ended up blushing.

Suppressing the heat in his cheeks, he turned his back to quickly change his clothes, then spun around and loomed over her.

Startled, Zhu Yun lost her footing and tumbled back onto the bed.

She’d been pinned to the bed...

Chu Shenyu cupped her chin. His hot breath, carrying the faint scent of tea, washed over her skin, and goosebumps erupted all over her body in a thrill of excitement.

"Wife," he murmured, gently caressing her chin. His eyes darkened as his lips descended, replacing his fingers to nuzzle against her skin. The stubble on his chin was coarse, leaving a faint pink blush where it grazed her.

Zhu Yun was ticklish and couldn’t help but squirm away, laughing silently.

This only spurred the man on. The more she dodged, the closer he leaned in. Gazing into her watery, glistening eyes, every fiber of his being screamed for more, yet he felt a bit lost, not knowing how to satisfy the urge.

"KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK," The guests had already gone to the cafeteria. Mrs. Chu knocked on the door, a note of helpless amusement in her voice. "Shen Yu, dear, I know a wedding night is precious, but you can’t start celebrating right now, can you?"

"Hurry and come out, or you’ll cause a scene..."

The moment the words left her mouth, Chu Shenyu shot up off of Zhu Yun as if propelled by a spring. He then yanked her to her feet, but because he misjudged his strength, she stumbled right into his arms.

She had bumped her nose, leaving her eyes watering from the sting. He had crashed into a pair of soft peaks and now stood frozen, his fair, handsome face flushing with embarrassment.

It was Zhu Yun who couldn’t help but burst out laughing. She opened the door and went out first.

Cafeteria Number One had been meticulously decorated. Festive "double happiness" characters were pasted on the pillars at the main entrance, and colorful paper streamers were strung up inside. One wall was draped in red velvet, upon which a banner read: "Congratulations to the Seventeen Employee Couples of Bright Machinery Factory on Their Joyous Union."

Everyone participating in the ceremony wore identical blue work uniforms. Even the family members were dressed in white shirts and blue trousers. They sat with their children around tables laden with plates of melon seeds, peanuts, candies, and other snacks.

Every face was beaming with joy.

The ceremony was simple. Each couple was introduced one by one and they all stood in a line. The head factory director gave a speech, the party secretary officiated and led the newlyweds in reciting their vows.

The newlyweds then bowed to the Chairman, to the factory leadership, and to their friends and family. Afterwards, they played a few small games that had the whole crowd roaring with laughter.

Just then, the cafeteria chefs wheeled out two nine-tiered cakes. They were brightly colored and beautifully decorated in a novel style, drawing gasps of admiration from the crowd. The children were already starting to drool.

The smiling newlyweds went to each table to cut cake for the guests. The faint, sweet scent of cream and the fresh aroma of fruit wafted through the cafeteria, symbolizing a sweet and ever-improving future for everyone.

The delicious, sweet, and delicate cake brought the entire wedding celebration to its climax.

The friends and family attending the wedding chipped in for the banquet on a per-person basis. The cost was about the same as a normal meal, yet what they got was a top-tier feast, a true delight in color, aroma, and taste.

Seeing the ceaseless smiles on everyone’s faces, a factory leader turned to Director Wang and gave him a big thumbs-up. "We should do all our collective weddings like this from now on. Getting everyone together for such a lively event helps build cohesion in the factory and fosters harmony between employees and their families!"
