Chapter 114: Chapter 59: The 50s’ Wife of Humble Origins (59)
"The research institute at our factory just launched a new project, and now this happens," Chu Shenyu said, looking coldly at Doctor Zheng. "I believe she has been corrupted by the enemy’s sugar-coated bullets. I hope the organization will conduct a thorough investigation!"
That was a heavy accusation, and cold sweat beaded on Director Hu’s forehead.
She had been practicing medicine for decades, but she had never encountered a situation that was tantamount to murder!
This could no longer be considered a simple case of medical malpractice. It was attempted murder, possibly aimed at Mr. Chu and the organization’s secrets.
"Li, Xiao Zhang, take Doctor Zheng to the security department and wait for the comrades from the bureau to arrive and investigate. Remember, you must impress upon the comrades in the security department that she is to be kept under strict watch. She is not allowed to send any messages out!" Director Hu ordered decisively.
The two interns behind her stepped forward at her command and seized Doctor Zheng’s arms.
"I’ll go supervise them," Gu Shaodong said to Chu Shenyu, his fists cracking as he gritted his teeth. "I won’t let my master suffer this injustice!"
"Me too," said Chu Shenyu’s assistant, who was also considered something of a disciple.
The commotion in the family compound had been so great that Zhu Yun’s disciples had gotten word from their mothers and grandmothers right away and rushed straight to the hospital.
Chu Shenyu’s assistants, on the other hand, had come with him. While they couldn’t help with the main issue, they could at least run errands, fetch water, and deliver meals.
Director Hu personally examined Zhu Yun. After a full battery of tests, her expression turned grim and ashen; she was too ashamed to face the patient’s family. "Mr. Chu, Comrade Zhu Yun and the baby in her womb have perfectly normal vitals. In fact, she shows no signs of fetal distress or impending miscarriage whatsoever." fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Chu Shenyu raised an eyebrow and said coolly, "Then may I ask, Director Hu, how do you explain Doctor Zheng’s claim just now that my wife’s condition was so critical that she needed surgery to deliver the baby?"
"This is the factory’s hospital. Every doctor and nurse goes through rigorous training and assessment before they’re allowed on duty. With the situation being so obvious, why did Doctor Zheng make such an error in judgment?"
Director Hu nodded gravely. "Mr. Chu, rest assured, I will report this to the hospital administration exactly as it happened. Regardless of the outcome of the bureau’s investigation, Doctor Zheng is no longer fit to work at our hospital—or even in this profession at all!"
Chu Shenyu first took Zhu Yun and Mrs. Chu home. When he saw his wife’s rosy complexion and clear eyes, he knew she was alright.
He gently kissed her forehead. "You just rest at home and wait for me to come back. I’ll handle the rest."
Zhu Yun smiled faintly and nodded, tugging on his sleeve. "Chu Shenyu, I really think Doctor Zheng was bought off. Besides, there are too many coincidences in this whole affair. I’ve barely made enemies with anyone since I came here, so how did I end up the target of a murder attempt?"
"Don’t worry, I won’t let the person behind her get away," Chu Shenyu said, stroking her soft hair. "Get something to eat and take a nap. When you wake up, it’ll all be over."
After leaving home, Chu Shenyu headed straight for the bureau.
"Shen Yu," a man with a buzz cut holding a service cap greeted him with a grin and a friendly punch to the chest.
"Hao, how’s the interrogation going?" Chu Shenyu asked, returning the gesture.
Li Chenhao winced. "Man, you haven’t been skipping your daily workouts, have you?"
Then his playful expression vanished, and he shook his head. "She’s not talking. I checked her file. Her background looks very simple—always worked in the medical field. She even has what amounts to a get-out-of-jail-free card from serving as a battlefield medic."
"People like her—skilled, experienced, and educated—are a tough nut to crack."
"As for the construction worker, he just got out of surgery and hasn’t woken up yet."
Chu Shenyu’s expression was cold. "There’s no rush. If they’re just pawns, then the person who was willing to use such well-hidden pieces, even at the risk of exposing them, is bound to make another move."
"And whatever they’re plotting, it must be big."
Li Chenhao froze for a moment, looking at him. "You mean..."
Chu Shenyu shrugged. "My wife and I have always gotten along well with others. For us to be targeted like this, it can’t be a simple personal grudge."
"If they’re after something big, then it has to be because of the special nature of our jobs."
"To be honest," he leaned close to Li Chenhao’s ear, "my wife saved the factory a huge amount of grain. A stash of resources that large is enough to make people get ideas. On top of that, the research institute just had a breakthrough. Either one of those things would be enough to make someone take a risky gamble."
"Shen Yu, are you planning to turn their own scheme against them?" Li Chenhao understood at once. "Don’t worry, I’ll have my men back you up!"
