Chapter 1091: Chapter 1091: Tagalong
Politely greeted the people in the living room, then went upstairs alone. As he turned the corner, Xi Siyan heard voices from downstairs.
"Ah Hui, is that your wife’s son?"
"Yeah, just a burden."
Xi Siyan’s hand clenched again as he walked back to his room.
The man of the house has the surname Li, named Li Chengyuan, a senior executive at a real estate group, with a well-off family background.
The man was his stepfather. After his mother remarried, she bore him two children, a boy and a girl, who were the family’s little darlings.
As for him, Xi Siyan, he’s considered an outsider, so it’s not surprising to be called a burden.
To be fair, Li Chengyuan wasn’t too bad to him; at least he provided for his education and living expenses, but expecting affection was too much to hope for.
His mother, that woman just now, named Zhang Yi, had a low status in this family since she remarried. She had to tread carefully and even after giving the Li family two children, she still wasn’t favored by Li Chengyuan’s mother.
She was struggling just to take care of herself, leaving no time to care about her son.
So, no one cared whether he got caught in the rain, whether he’d catch a cold, or whether he would have enough with the meager leftovers for dinner.
Xi Siyan had gotten used to all of this.
He rubbed his temples, took out his homework from his bag, and started working.
The workbook inevitably got wet, but he didn’t mind, casually wiped it with a paper, and continued with the exercises.
As night fell, everyone in the villa went to bed, and Xi Siyan finally finished his homework. He started packing the books needed for the next day’s class, reached into his bag, and felt something foreign, pulling it out to find it was that white and pink umbrella.
Xi Siyan furrowed his brows, unavoidably recalling the scene of Zhou Chengchen shoving the umbrella into his hand before running off.
Xi Siyan’s expression slightly softened.
He was aware of his own appeal; many had pursued him from the past to now, causing him much trouble. To avoid such nuisances, his personality grew colder, evolving from merely distanced to an iceberg.
He disliked interacting with others and didn’t like others interacting with him.
Gradually, the girls who openly pursued him lessened, but many still secretly cared for him. However, someone so bold as to force an umbrella into his hand, there was truly only one.
In the past, people would invite him to share an umbrella, and upon his refusal, leave sadly.
Xi Siyan took the umbrella out, tidied it up bit by bit, and put it back again.
Packed his bag and went to sleep.
Early the next morning, Xi Siyan woke up feeling heavy-headed, got up and washed his face with cold water, which helped a bit, though his nose was still stuffed.
After cleaning himself up and taking his bag, he stepped out of the room. At the staircase, he encountered a small boy with a backpack, and Xi Siyan stopped, allowing him to go first.
The young boy, however, walked up to him, lifted his foot, and kicked Xi Siyan’s leg: "Burden."
Though only seven, Xi Siyan could pick him up easily with one hand, but he didn’t move. The boy seemed quite pleased with himself, his voice innocent but his words harsh: "Grandma said you’re just a burden, only spending Dad’s money, good for nothing."
Xi Siyan frowned, his gaze turned icy, and the boy suddenly sat on the floor, crying out: "Brother bullied me, brother was mean to me."
