Chapter 98: Actor
"I know it’s gonna cost a lot, but we have to do this. It has a big profit margin considering there are no newspaper companies in this country."
"Besides, we will be giving jobs to anyone who has lost their family members in this war."
"We can’t stop this war. The moment fishmen ignored my warning, there was bound to be a war."
"So, all we can do is make sure we dehumanize war as much as possible and also the people who start the war."
Hearing that, Elena sighed.
"We will be making enemies everywhere."
"I know."
Tyler nodded and turned towards Elena.
"Am I feeling too confident? Am I okay?"
"You are feeling confident but not arrogant enough."
"That means I am okay. So, we will go with this plan. Do you have anything else to add?"
He asked.
"Daisy will not leave her job so easily. She poured so much effort into that job. You have to respect her efforts."
Elena said, speechless.
"I am respecting her effort. That’s why I am making her the Chief Executive Officer of the company, not just the newspaper."
Tyler answered.
"Are you going to include the weapon industry in this well?"
Elena asked.
Tyler nodded.
"Why? Is there a plan?"
"Of course, there is. We are trying to make weapons while also trying to spread peace. We sound like hypocrites."
"But sometimes weapons can stop wars. Elena, you have to understand. Humans will never stop conflict because that means they no longer have any room for growth."
"Conflict can be good or bad for the world. If it is too much, it’s bad. If it is controlled, it’s good. The idea for the newspaper isn’t to spread peace but to spread awareness."
"I don’t want our newspaper to say I love peace. I want it to say why I hate war. There is a difference. By the way, have you remained in contact with the main family?"
Tyler asked.
Elena nodded.
"Alfred and I have contacted elders many times. They don’t know about your cultivation, but they know about my progress."
"Surprisingly enough, they haven’t contacted you or even asked anything about you."
Tyler looked surprised.
"Are you kidding me?"
"Are you angry?"
Elena chuckled as she asked.
"No, I am confused. The Third Elder clearly loves me. He even gave me such a big benefit. Why wouldn’t he ask more about me?"
Tyler tried to act spoiled, but there was a genuine confusion in his eyes.
"I think I might have an answer for that."
Xue spoke.
"Though I’m considering whether I should tell you or not."
Tyler immediately bowed his head.
"Teacher, please!"
"You’re becoming more and more shameless. A swordsman can never bow his head so easily." freewebnσvel.cøm
Xue scolded him.
"Teacher, you are wrong. I am stretching." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Then, he started doing the stretching in front of her, which only made her more speechless.
Elena covered her mouth and chuckled. She found something very interesting.
Other people would be more arrogant and proud after being strong, while her young master was getting more and more shameless.
It wasn’t that Tyler didn’t want to be shameless, but he always felt a burden on his shoulders.
He was worried that he was like a classic protagonist with low talent.
Then, he found out about the dual cultivation technique and the tower.
He found out about the restrictions in his body, which made him develop resentment.
After that, he found a crazy woman trying to make him a puppet and kill his loved ones.
So, naturally, he couldn’t be true to himself. He had to keep acting like a tough and cold person.
But after reaching the Treasured Body Realm, that burden had disappeared.
He was finally free, so he could let his inner self go free.
"You are really interesting, Tyler. You feel restricted, yet you still thrive in pressure. It’s like you are born to grow under pressure."
Xue softly spoke.
"I don’t think so. When I was under pressure, I would try to find multiple ways to improve myself."
"But when I am not under pressure, I will easily figure out multiple ways to improve myself."
"Just like right now. I am not under any kind of pressure, but I instantly came up with the idea to start a newspaper company."
Hearing that, Xue countered.
"But the fact that you care about peace so much means you are under pressure. It’s because you know how devastating the war can be."
"You know how many people will lose their lives. How many families will lose their income. You know all of this. That’s why you feel burdened."
"But now, you have the strength to act freely. I understand now. You are more confident in me than yourself."
Tyler paused and bitterly smiled.
"I guess I can’t hide anything from you, teacher. I am indeed a bit too confident in you."
The moment he said that, Xue snorted.
"Do you think I’ll believe you? Tyler, I might not be able to read your mind, but I know what kind of person you are."
"You are an actor, born to act based on the situation. You can bend, you can act tough, you can show hatred, you can show compassion, but everything is based on your feelings."
"So, don’t try to fool me with this kind of self-loathing emotion. You are confident in this tower, not just in me."
"You are confident in your parents, not just in this tower. Most importantly, now, you no longer fear death."
"But that’s where my understanding of you falls. I don’t understand why you no longer fear death."
"I am pretty sure you still understand that I will not help you fight any battle. I am pretty sure you understand that Jenny has already received the benefits from dual cultivation."
"So, what exactly is your source of confidence? It can’t be your parents. Even you know that. It can’t be this tower. So, what is it?"
Hearing her words, Tyler was surprised.
He never thought his teacher would know him so well in just a few days, even though Alfred and Elena hadn’t figured him out after so many years.
’I underestimated you, teacher. Your experience is definitely more than enough to see through my actions.’
His teacher was right. He was born an actor. From the moment of his birth, all he had done was act.
Act like a baby, act like a child, act like a teenager, act like a Young Master, act like a boyfriend, act like a boss, act like a daring young man.
All he had done was act. Sometimes even he didn’t understand whether he was truly just acting or if he was real.
’I am an actor, and I will not stop acting until I reach the peak of the cultivation world where I will truly be free.’
He made a promise in his heart before speaking.
"Teacher, you understand me, but you don’t understand my curse."
"Curse?"
His words startled Xue and Elena.
Elena panicked while Xue frowned.
"Wait a minute! I don’t sense any kind of curse on you. How can you know you are cursed?"
"I am the man cursed by knowledge. Aren’t you curious why I know so many things? Aren’t you curious why I am so confident in swordsmanship?"
"Aren’t you curious why I don’t fear death? Because I am cursed. Knowing things that are beyond the understanding of my level is my curse."
"This allows me to understand something. Unless someone arbitrarily ignores the plot to kill me, I will not die."
"How do I know?"
Tyler chuckled.
"Isn’t the tower proof of that?"
His words made Xue speechless.
She felt something was amiss here, but she couldn’t tell what. She felt like Tyler was just fooling her, but his words had some merits.
More importantly, he wasn’t wrong. The fact that the tower didn’t manage to kill him meant he wasn’t going to die so easily.
But there was clear logic behind this. Someone more powerful than the tower stopped the tower from killing him.
But why was Tyler so confident in this unknown person?
Even Tyler didn’t know that.
He truly didn’t understand where this confidence came from, but he truly believed that he wouldn’t die so easily.
He could suffer. People around him could die. He could become a Lone Star. But he wouldn’t die.
Of course, that’s what Tyler hates the most.
And that’s why he wanted to grow stronger. Not to prevent his own death but the death of people around him.
His resentment towards Jenny started from this same fear.
Now, his serious attitude towards his growth also started from it.
If he was satisfied with the Treasured Body Realm before, then now, he couldn’t be satisfied with the peak of the universe.
He wanted to go beyond because he understood one thing.
The main character would never be in serious danger. It would always be people closest to him.
