Chapter 44: Chapter 41: Motherfucker
The Nuns transformed into Blood Demons, expertly surrounding Baron.
Baron stood tall, the blades on his twin guns razor-sharp. Blood and fire mingled on his Cross Scar, and his pupils glowed—one Gold, the other rose-red.
He was so calm, his gaze as serene as jade. Yet, that serenity was stretched taut over a sharp, deadly intent—an all-or-nothing resolve to die with honor rather than live in disgrace.
Teresa led the Nuns-turned-Blood-Demons as they prowled around Baron, their breathing a soft, whistling sound.
She spoke. "L, why..."
"I’ve heard too many ’whys’ tonight."
Baron cut her off, raising his bladed guns. "I’ve grown tired of it."
Teresa faltered for a moment, then smiled faintly. "Then let’s go to Hell together."
The Blood Demons roared. Their bladed claws, gleaming with a cold light, descended upon Baron in waves before he could even catch his breath.
Baron knew no formal fighting techniques; he relied purely on instinct to weave through the flurry of sharp blades.
He was one against five. It was hardly an effortless stroll, but he somehow always managed to evade the most lethal strikes.
His blades and their claws tore into flesh, opening wounds on both sides.
Blood—both his and the Blood Demons’—splattered freely. It hissed into red steam upon contact with his Fire Blade, while it made his Blood Blade shimmer with an even purer light.
Flashing blades and splattering blood. Life and death decided in an instant.
As his Fire Blade parried the first Blood Demon’s attack and decapitated it, his Blood Blade vanished. Simultaneously, Baron condensed the blood from a wound on his back into a hooked chain, piercing a second Blood Demon that was launching a sneak attack.
A third Blood Demon dropped from above, striking down at his head! The Blood Blade reformed from the Cross on his gun, and he raised his arm to block. The sheer force of the blow, amplified by the creature’s weight, slammed him to his knees, shattering the slate floor beneath him.
Seizing the opportunity, a fourth Blood Demon lunged, its claws aiming straight for the Demon Hunter’s heart. The Demon Hunter twisted away, simultaneously ramming his last Iron Thorn into the jaw of the third Blood Demon above him.
But the real attack came from the side with a beastly roar. The claw aimed at his heart had just been a feint.
The fourth Blood Demon opened its gaping maw and viciously bit down on the Demon Hunter’s shoulder, ripping away a large chunk of flesh.
A savage glee filled its eyes. But just as it was about to swallow the flesh, the Demon Hunter, forcing down the searing pain, looked back at it. His eyes, now completely crimson, radiated a raw, potent violence.
The blood chain holding the second demon dissolved, and the creature fell. At the same instant, a new chain erupted from the very piece of flesh ripped from Baron’s shoulder.
It shot up and instantly pierced the fourth Blood Demon’s skull!!!
Blood Control—this was the Authority Baron had gained upon becoming a Blood Demon Hunter.
As the name suggested, it allowed him to control his own blood and shape it into all kinds of weapons.
Before he knew it, only he and Teresa were left...
Baron bit into the neck of a Blood Demon that had reverted to its Nun form, drinking deeply of the still-warm blood. As he did, the wound on his shoulder began to slowly mend.
Unlike Contract Knights, who only possessed Dragon Flame, being a Blood Demon Hunter granted Baron not only Blood Control but also the ability to heal his wounds by consuming blood.
Perhaps it was due to his extreme thirst, but Baron found the Nuns’ blood to be sweet. He wondered if he was imagining it, but it even tasted a little like iced tea...
He suddenly realized something was wrong. He released the Nun’s neck and clutched his forehead, desperately fighting the inexplicable, vampiric urge welling up inside him.
Teresa stood silently below the altar, gazing up at Baron. Her eyes held the same warmth they did when she used to chant Holy Poems in the church. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
If not for her hands, which had transformed into Sharp Claws, and the monstrous form hidden beneath her nun’s habit, Baron might have thought she was about to give him a gentle smile.
Baron clutched his forehead, his one visible eye flickering between gold and blood-red.
He said, "It’s over, Sister Teresa. It seems you’ll have to make your journey to Hell alone."
"My years as a Nun have taught me to endure loneliness," the Nun said.
"All the better," Vampire Hunter L said coldly.
"L, what are you doing? Are you going to kill Sister Teresa?"
Just then, a voice called out from above. Baron looked up. The Priest from the Blood Church was sprawled above them on the shattered, stained-glass ceiling, yelling down.
Baron frowned and tightened his grip on his revolver. ’Is this Priest a Blue Blood Cultist too? How else could he have found this place?’
Sister Teresa smiled gently. "No need to guess. He’s just an ordinary Priest. I only called him here to settle an old score."
"What score?"
The Nun paused, then said, "He took my innocence."
"Your innocence?"
"During the year of the famine, I was fourteen. I left my home and came to Mundra to become a Nun of the Blood Church. The Priest lured me with black bread laced with a Sedative, and then he raped me."
Though the Nun’s tone was flat, Baron could hear the raw hatred and bloodlust simmering beneath her words.
"You’re going to kill him here," he stated, seeing her intention.
"So, does the righteous Demon Hunter plan on stopping me...?" Teresa said.
"No..."
On the contrary, Baron shook his head and closed his eyes. "Stop what? As far as I know, there was never any Priest here."
The Nun smiled quietly. "Mr. L, you truly are different from other Demon Hunters."
Baron heard the Priest’s wail, which was then abruptly cut short. When he opened his eyes, the Nun, replenished by the blood, was standing gracefully before the Blood Pool. She had transformed back into a Blood Demon.
"If I hadn’t killed Hira... perhaps we wouldn’t have to be fighting..." the Blood Demon said.
"But for the sake of those other dead girls, I believe you would have drawn your blades eventually anyway," she added, shaking her head. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"Then..." the Demon Hunter said.
"Come!" the Blood Demon suddenly roared. "Let’s do this for all the innocent souls who died!"
The words had barely faded when the Demon Hunter, bathed in moonlight, lunged down! His twin guns crossed, forming a cross of blades.
