Chapter 216: Chapter 142: Who Killed Ferdinand? (Part 2)

Then came Yalilan and Baron’s party.

As for the mercenaries stationed in the small towns around Fude City to guard the Rose Commerce Association’s caravans, Yalilan had already sent them back.

On the way into the city, Baron told Yalilan everything that had happened, omitting any information about Carmen or other details that might expose his dual profession.

After listening, Yalilan frowned slightly. "So, you’re saying that Ferdinand claimed on his deathbed that the high-ranking member of the Immortal Church was City Lord Lewis, but through a twist of fate, the real leader turned out to be the Guard Commander?"

Baron said, "We can’t say for sure it wasn’t the Lord City Master, since we never verified it... In truth, all we had to do was make a small cut to see if he would bleed."

Of course, we also can’t rule out the possibility that, like the Guard Commander, a high-ranking member of the Immortal Church might not be one of the Undead.

Just as Baron was plotting how to resolve this incident for good, he saw a group of men dressed as Guards rush out from Fude City. They brandished an assortment of blades and polearms. The guns they carried were Firearms.

The moment they arrived, they blocked the Demon Hunters at the front of the column.

The leader’s gaze swept over the bewildered group of Demon Hunters before landing on Baron. He pointed and shouted:

"That’s him! I saw it with my own eyes! That’s the man who killed the Commander and the Guards, then framed them as Undead Cultists!"

"See the firearm at his waist? If you don’t believe me, my lord, you can take the bullet from his gun and compare it to the wound on the Commander’s forehead!"

The Deputy Guard Commander, surrounded by his men, saw the Commander’s gruesome state. His face contorted with rage, and he gave a decisive order. "Arrest them!"

The Guards swarmed forward.

"Who are you people? We are from the Rose Hunting Group, under the Rose Commerce Association! We left the city to eliminate cultists, so stop spouting this nonsense!"

Andre spoke up. Along with the brothers who had eagerly followed him before, he blocked the advancing Guards, drawing his blade to stand guard in front of Baron.

But the Deputy Guard Commander just said, "Then arrest them all!"

More Guards advanced, holding ropes and shackles imbued with Forbidden Magic as they closed in on the Demon Hunters.

"THUD!"

With that single sound, the entire group of surrounding Guards fell.

The Demon Hunters retracted their feet as if nothing had happened.

"It was bad enough that the Guard Commander was colluding with the Immortal Church, but this fucking Deputy Commander is blind, too. Who gave you the balls to cause trouble for L?"

Maguire spat coldly as he looked at the Guards around them, who had been knocked down with a single kick from the Demon Hunters.

"I did!"

A bear’s roar echoed from atop the city gate.

BOOM!

A figure leaped down like a cannonball, carving a deep crater into the ground and kicking up a cloud of dust several yards high.

When the dust settled, the pupils of the Demon Hunters contracted.

Standing in the crater was a powerfully built Knight!

Baron’s gaze fell on the Armor on the Knight’s chest, and a sense of foreboding washed over him.

And just as he thought, the Knight roared at him. The man’s face was swarthy like a brown bear, his hands were thick like a black bear, and he stood as tall as a polar bear. A snarling bear was carved in Pure Silver on his breastplate.

"Are you the L who killed my son, Gray?"

The moment he spoke, his identity became obvious. He was none other than Thunderbolt, the father of the Barbarian Bear Knight, Gray, and the Leader of the Barbarian Bear Knight Order.

Judging by the color of his pupils, he was a Bronze Knight on the verge of becoming a Silver one.

"Die!"

HUMMM!

The instant Thunderbolt finished speaking, everyone felt the ground tremble. Baron felt a strange tremor in his heart as he noticed the sky suddenly darken.

He looked up. A dark, bear-like figure had instantly appeared in the sky, blocking out the sun! The sharp, metallic gleam in its hands was clearly its assimilated bear claws!

Baron instinctively drew his gun, but he heard a whistling sound by his ear.

A cold wind gusted. Yalilan was right behind, her sword raised. She swung, her red hair fluttering, and in the instant her blade met the claws, a massive blast of Spiritual Power erupted from the shower of sparks at the point of impact.

The surrounding horses neighed in terror from the blast of Spiritual Power, and the Demon Hunters felt as if the impact had squeezed their very hearts.

The wave of Spiritual Power lasted only a moment before ceasing. Yalilan landed back on her horse, her stunningly beautiful face un-flushed and her breathing even, still wearing an icy expression that kept everyone at a distance.

But as the person closest to her, Baron could clearly see that the woman’s Silver Hand, which gripped her sword, was still trembling uncontrollably.

The power of the Barbarian Bear Knight was plain to see.

However, Thunderbolt on the other side hadn’t fared much better. As a Contract Knight whose Contracted Beast was an "Iron-Eating Bear," he possessed far more strength than a Pure-blooded Fierce Tiger. But a Silver Demon Hunter’s Spiritual Power fluctuations were inevitably affected by the Magic Potion from their Entry Tier Trial.

These fluctuations often carried slight characteristics related to the Magic Potion.

A first encounter with this characteristic wasn’t a big deal, but in a direct clash like that, he was extremely vulnerable to being contaminated by the Magic Potion’s properties—properties refined from who knows how many Demons and Beasts.

Just like now, his own Spiritual Power fluctuations had become slightly disordered.

Thunderbolt said, "Lord Marquis, are you really going to protect this prisoner who was exiled from Feinan by King Feinan?"

A prisoner exiled from Feinan by King Feinan...

Baron saw Carmen glance over at him, shrug, and give him a look that seemed to say, ’Who doesn’t have a hidden identity when they come to an Otherworld?’

Yalilan paid him no mind, only letting out a cold snort. Then, seeing someone on the city wall glance her way,

SHIING!

As the longsword was unsheathed, the Guards also drew their weapons, raising their blades and aiming their firearms.

The Deputy Guard Commander said, "Lady Yalilan, are you really willing to make an enemy of the Fude City Guard Post for a single subordinate?"

"It is not for him, but for justice and the rule of law," Yalilan said coldly. "Isn’t that how the Gillian Duchy has stood firm in Prole for over a thousand years?"

"Are you saying that just because L claimed my father was an Undead Cultist, he could kill him and so many of his Guards at will, without any verification?"

Yalilan froze. She saw the guards suddenly part as a green-haired young woman appeared at the end of the road.

She wore a black dress, and her hair and makeup were the same as they had been at the City Lord’s Mansion that night. But the expression on her pretty face was one of sorrow.

It was the Commander’s daughter, Miss Triss.

And it wasn’t just Miss Triss. Behind her stood a group of powerful nobles in high hats and wide sashes.

Most of them were the same upper-class individuals who had been exposed for their connections to the Immortal Church at the banquet.

Now, however, they were filled with righteous indignation. They had brought the guards from their own manors to support Miss Triss, claiming that Yalilan’s group had used violence to break the law with utter disregard for public order. They declared that the murder of the Guard Commander was a blatant show of contempt for the laws of both Fude City and the Gillian Duchy.

This spectacle quickly attracted a crowd of passing citizens and merchant caravans. fгeewebnovёl.com

Seeing this, the Demon Hunters’ hands tightened on their blades, veins bulging. They wanted nothing more than to kill them all.

But since Yalilan had not given the order, they could only suppress their frustration and hold back.

Carmen noticed that the moment Miss Triss appeared, L’s body began to tremble slightly.

Yalilan’s heart sank. ’Perhaps it’s the guilt of killing her father,’ she thought.

The Deputy Commander seized the opportunity. "After the army delivered the bodies, we had specialists—physicians and Alchemists—examine them. They have essentially ruled out the possibility that the Commander and the dead Guards were Undead or Undead Cultists..."

"...because even the Silver Mage from Palmer couldn’t detect any residual Immortal aura on them..."

"On the other hand, Mr. L," the Deputy Commander said, "according to that Wizard Fei, he personally saw you return to Lady Yalilan’s party wearing the robes of an Immortal Cultist..."

"That’s fucking bullshit! Are you saying L framed them?!" Maguire drew his blade. "Fuck you! If you want to arrest my brother, you’ll have to get through me first!"

Though the situation was dire, Baron was actually a little touched. He hadn’t expected a hothead like Maguire to stick his neck out for him to this extent.

Then he drew his gun, pulled the trigger, and shot Miss Triss.
