Chapter 185: Chapter 127: Because the Explosives You Buried Are Real

"Enough of this bullshit! The victim is right here. Do you dare confront him?" Zod Maguire, Baron’s hype man, chimed in again.

Ferdinand remained silent. The Captain gestured for Andre to use the dull-eyed Kazela to identify the mastermind.

’How will he identify anyone?’

Some in attendance were curious. In his Undying state, Kazela clearly lacked normal thought patterns. What could he possibly recognize?

’Besides, if it really was the Iron Thorn Gang, wouldn’t they have concealed their auras? Disguised their faces?’

But Andre just gave a mysterious smile and clapped his hands. He ordered someone to place a blindfolding hood over Kazela’s head, then looped a rope under it, leading him around like a dog on a leash.

This act shocked the onlookers and horrified Kazela’s parents. The Captain kicked an Undead Cultist being restrained by the Demon Hunters, and the cultist explained with trembling lips:

"An Undead in the process of becoming Undying is like a Beast. Only instinct drives it to seek what’s safe and avoid what’s harmful."

"Blindfolding him forces him to rely solely on what he originally heard, saw, and felt. It’s like using a dog to track a familiar scent."

"Kazela will sense anyone who is tainted with the Immortal aura!"

Andre led Kazela over to the other Undead Cultists being held by the Demon Hunters—those who had failed to receive the "blessing." Beneath his hood, Kazela showed no signs of agitation.

But as Andre led him toward Yalilan, who was holding the Canaan Tree Spike, and drew closer to the corpse of the Undead whose soul had been destroyed, a series of hoarse roars erupted from Kazela’s throat.

Andre looked at Ferdinand. "Gang Leader, if you would please cooperate."

Ferdinand nodded. Kazela was brought before him.

But the scene everyone was expecting didn’t happen. Kazela simply passed by quietly.

Baron raised an eyebrow, but then his expression cleared with understanding.

’A man of Ferdinand’s stature wouldn’t get his own hands dirty. He probably gave all the orders, but he never once showed his face from start to finish.’

Andre gave Ferdinand a surprised glance, then led Kazela over to the other high-ranking members of the Iron Thorn Gang.

Cold sweat began to bead on their foreheads. Without exception, as Kazela approached each of them, he began to roar and struggle.

The Chief then signaled for the guards to clap those men in Forbidden Magic shackles—even though most of them weren’t Law Enforcers.

It wasn’t just the Iron Thorn Gang’s leaders. As Kazela passed by certain high-ranking members of the upper class, his body would tremble uncontrollably. The Captain’s gaze would then sweep over them, and some of the nobles actually dropped to their knees, crying out:

"It has nothing to do with me! Nothing at all!"

The remaining nobles simply sneered, seemingly confident in their immunity.

It made sense. Anyone invited to the City Lord’s Mansion was a person of great power and status in Fude City. Arresting one might be manageable, but for a whole group, the Captain’s authority was insufficient.

He would also inevitably face retaliation later.

The Captain frowned, but simply had the guards temporarily cuff the gentlemen who had knelt.

As for those of higher social standing, the Captain stepped aside. The Deputy Chief appeared from the other side with his troop of "faithless guards" and personally bound them with ropes.

His rank and Tier were high enough, and his subordinates were mostly men with no ties, unafraid of retaliation. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

Those who had considered resisting or applying pressure quickly lost their nerve.

Others who tried to slip away in the confusion found their escape cut off; the Chief had already ordered the guards to surround the City Lord’s Mansion. They could only watch in horror as Kazela stopped before them like a grim reaper, and then began to tremble along with him.

The secretary watched as Kazela identified one high-society figure after another, all tainted with the Immortal aura and likely participants in the Immortal Church’s ritual. He leaned in and whispered to Lewis:

"City Lord, there are too many... Some are even from the Fude City garrison. If this continues, I’m afraid..."

The secretary trailed off, but Lewis knew what he was worried about: with so many powerful people involved, the situation would become difficult to resolve.

"I’m afraid it won’t be a very... tidy affair," the secretary said hesitantly.

Lewis just smiled. "Helping people find a ’tidy’ end... if I don’t do it, someone else will."

"Who in this world doesn’t have enemies?"

The secretary understood at once.

A deeper realization seemed to dawn on him, and he lowered his head in trepidation.

Baron stroked his chin, watching the merchants and nobles being arrested by the Guard Post. ’If they keep this up,’ he thought, ’this celebratory banquet at the City Lord’s Mansion might as well be the Feast at Hong Gate.’

’The main event was supposed to be the Judgement of the Iron Thorn Gang, but this whole affair is starting to look more like a setup targeting these high-society figures.’

"They’re all wealthy. The bail money alone could probably fund the City Government for a year," a noble on the sidelines chuckled. "I suspect this is all just a show put on by the City Government and the Guard Post."

Baron thought their speculation wasn’t entirely baseless.

Deciding enough was enough, the Deputy Chief finally signaled for Andre to turn his attention to the other primary target present: Faraday.

Faraday watched as Kazela was brought before him. It was one thing for the boy’s body to tremble, but then he began to utter broken, staccato syllables, like the snapping of dry twigs:

"No... I don’t want to become an Undead... Lord Faraday..."

Faraday!

Kazela had spoken the name of the Iron Thorn Gang’s liaison to the Immortal Church.

It was Faraday!

Faraday’s expression changed. As all eyes fell upon him, he clenched his fists. He shot a glance at Ferdinand, only to be met with a cold, indifferent stare. Gritting his teeth, he forced himself to appear calm.
