Chapter 549: Chapter 548: Severing Love
Bella looked at him with reddened eyes, "What do you mean?"
Damian remained silent.
Bella gave a self-mocking smile, "You just think it’s fun to tease me and watch me embarrass myself, don’t you?"
"I don’t." Damian frowned.
"You don’t, then just don’t ever appear in front of me again, you really make me... make me..." Bella bit her lip, her heart churning with a whirlwind of emotions. She knows there is no future, yet she still clings to him. How useless she is.
Bella lowered her head, diverted her gaze, and finished her unfinished sentence, "You really make me feel unbearable."
That’s not true. She didn’t hate him; she just hated how he affected her repeatedly, hated her own uselessness, hated herself for not being able to let go despite saying she would.
Damian’s pupils suddenly widened, his tall frame frozen in place, his expression inscrutable, unsure if he was hurt or incredulous.
Bella didn’t dare look at him and walked past him with her head down, quickly leaving.
She returned to the room where others had stopped playing paper games. Some were rolling dice and drinking, some singing, while others were cozying up in the dim corners, flirting.
Since the corners were occupied, Bella had no choice but to sit on the couch in the middle.
Archer Quinn glanced over worriedly when he saw her return.
"Archer, what are you looking at? It’s your turn to count," someone beside him called out to Archer.
Archer had to turn his attention back, but his thoughts were all on her, unable to focus on the game.
Bella sat on the couch, hanging her head, not wanting to say a word.
The surrounding liveliness seemed unrelated to her. Her heart felt empty, always looking for something to fill it.
Bella looked up at the red wine on the table, poured herself a full glass with a tall stemmed glass, and drank it all in one go.
The sour taste of the wine stimulated her taste buds and senses, making her aching heart feel a bit better.
Bella poured one glass after another until she finished all the wine in the decanter, only then did she reluctantly put down the glass.
So drinking isn’t a big deal after all! She drank so many glasses this time, yet felt nothing.
"Hey, whose song is this?" someone in the room asked with a microphone in hand: "The song Cut Love, I can’t sing it. Who knows how to sing it?"
"I do!" Bella suddenly raised her hand and stood up, "I can sing it."
"Alright, we haven’t heard Bella sing tonight." With that, they handed her the microphone.
Bella took the microphone and walked forward a couple of steps, her pace unsteady.
Archer noticed this and frowned. Bella seemed drunk.
The music started, and without waiting for the intro, Bella grabbed the mic, closed her eyes, and began to sing.
"People change their hearts and break their promises. People sever their feelings, pointless to feel sad. I’ve been listening, eyes closed, afraid to look at your expression." She was evidently offbeat yet singing with such emotion that it caught the attention of a few who were still playing.
But at this hour, there were few sober people left; some even started singing along with Bella.
"Endless shooting stars, my tears can’t be wiped away, so I speak of it not and reflect silently."
"Bang!" The room door opened from the outside, with Damian walking in, his face expressionless.
Bella opened her eyes to look at him and slowly sang out, "Finally, I broke free from love..."
