Chapter 1027: Chapter 447: Battle of La-Mesnil Abbey (Part 1)
In the distance, the tide of the undead has arrived.
The Undead Chaos Four Gods Champion—Guer tightly grips a black giant axe with both hands, the serrated edge glinting with a chilling light. He is like a harbinger of destruction, vowing to bring doom to Brittania. On his decayed and withered face, empty eye sockets spew blue soul fire, while the blood-red Barosh armor collects powers from the Chaos Four Gods, Nagash, and Kemler, these three forces converging to form a strange light that shields Guer’s body.
Behind the long army are three Desolate Grave Guard Legions and two hundred Undead Chaos Chosen Warriors, who continue to advance under Guer’s leadership, followed closely by an endless sea of Skeleton Warriors.
The Undead Army led by Kemler follows closely behind, comprising large groups of Stone Tomb Binding Spirits, Tomb Ghouls, and Tomb Evil Ghosts. Two Fear Beasts flap their wings in the sky, while a Bloodthirsty Bat Wolf walks beside Kemler, with the Undead Grand Mage himself standing on his black horse carriage.
On Kemler’s left wing, Duke of Musillon Mathew Bade leads four legions of Undead Knights, all equipped with cavalry lances and heavy armor. Additionally, a squad of Blood Knights follows alongside Mathew Bade, who remains silent throughout. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Among the four legions of Undead Knights, many still wear their armor and wield the weapons from their past lives. The family crest of the "Red Boar" from the Atuo family indicates their identity; they were once Knights of the Brittania Atuo Duchy, but many died or were turned into vampires after the "Dor Tower" event. The former Duke of Atuo, Zilfroy, is among them. Mathew Bade regrets that Zilfroy’s soul has already gone to the Divine Kingdom of the Lake Fairy, which makes the resurrected Duke of Atuo just a soulless puppet fighting by instinct; otherwise, the Black Chalice Knight team could have gained a new member.
On the right wing of the Undead Army are a large number of robbers, bandits, unemployed vagrants, and half-famished Beastmen and Giant Demons from the Gray Mountain Range, along with many Chaos-tainted mutants. When Kemler offered them a large sum of money and promised generous rewards, many were willing to join Kemler’s ranks, and the Undead Grand Mage also drained his last copper plate to satisfy them.
He has been unscrupulous; the Noisy Skull Staff was severed in battle by Francois, and now Kemler is using the Chaos Tomb Digger Sword without hesitation. His actions, along with publicly recruiting Chaos Cultists, made Mathew Bade realize something, causing him to refuse to stay with Kemler, instead choosing to lead the left-wing Undead Knight Legion alone, preparing to show the monastery’s defenders his wrath and revenge.
Conversely, on Brittania’s side, the central army led by Francois gathers closely at the foot of the monastery, and the peasants loudly pray in the darkness, beseeching the gods for their blessing. Many peasants are so frightened that their legs become weak, urinating their pants in terror at such a dreadful spectacle. All they can do is pray, hoping the human gods they worship will lend a helping hand.
The victory in the Black Stone Stronghold battle ultimately boosts the morale of the peasants. Although terrified, most are not planning to flee immediately. After that battle, the Ancient Tomb Legion has been weakened, with the reduced army size placing the undead at a disadvantage against the human and dwarf alliance army.
This gives many peasants confidence. Francois happens to be learning Laine’s reforms, and the Duke loudly announces that if any peasant achieves great merit in this war, he will consider granting that peasant the title of Knight—this is the greatest honor that the peasant class can achieve under normal circumstances, and although it’s merely a consideration, it is enough to drive the peasants into fervor.
A large group of knights on the right wing are eager to fight the undead army. Led by Quenalis Champion Knights like Antelme, Kaled, and Jerald, they all feel immense honor.
Francois begins his pre-battle speech.
"Knights of Brittania, soldiers, my compatriots, and friends from the high mountains, allies from the wood elf forests!"
"Today, we stand together, ready to face Kemler and his Ancient Tomb Legion. This battle will determine whether we can rid ourselves of the shadow this undead mage has cast over us for decades, and whether we can protect the land the Goddess bestowed upon us. If we fail here, the entire kingdom will be inundated by the tide of the undead!"
"We cannot allow such a situation to occur. This land was given to us by the Goddess; it belongs solely to us. A thousand years ago, Brittania people suffered greatly to take root here, where we have since thrived and prospered, growing stronger until today."
"Now, for the people we cherish and protect in our hearts forever!"
"For our most faithful belief in the Lady of the Lake!"
"For the most glorious and sacred Brittania in the world!"
"Draw your swords, lift your long spears."
"Warriors! We will utterly destroy Kemler and his ambition! For the Lady! For Winford! For Brittania! Fight!!! "
