Chapter 295: This isn’t the mage you are looking for
The employee let out a shrill, ear piercing scream as the hunks of bone crushing metal descended towards them. She tried to scamper away, but the metal cats head atop a cane slammed down next to her hand, pinning her hand to the ground by her clothing.
She whipped her head around, her eyes bloodshot with tears as she wanted to beg for her life, or simply ask why she was being doomed to die alongside this woman. But she froze in confusion when she saw the strange crippled woman sitting calmly with her hand extended to the sky, as if she was going to catch it with her bare hands.
It was such a baffling sight that it stunned the employee’s brain for long enough that she completely forgot about her impending doom. Even after they should have been crushed. When her brain finally realised what should have happened, her bloodshot eyes slowly trailed up, to find the broken pieces of the turret hanging in the air above them.
"Wh-what? That’s not... that’s not possible." She stuttered, her brain completely short circuiting, not knowing whether to laugh, cry or pass out.
With an attention grabbing grunt, Valerie tilted her arm down, pushing the metal fragments away from them before letting it crash into the ground in front of them. The marble flooring cracked beneath the weight, a weight that would have crushed them to a fine paste, as the broken turret now acted as their cover.
"You... How did you..." The employee stammered, turning her wide eyes away from their new cover towards the woman beside her, who was staring deep into her eyes. The employee’s expression slacked, the fear draining from her eyes as she lost herself in the sea of glowing crimson that was Valerie’s eyes.
"Forget what you saw in the last ten seconds." Valerie forced the thought into her mind, before breaking eye contact and crawling over to the broken turret and peaking over it at the crazed criminal.
"Wh-what happened? We’re... still alive?" A confused voice came from behind her, as the employee came out of her hypnotised stupor.
"It barely missed us, count yourself lucky. Now be quiet." She hissed back, not having the energy to spare to be kind, as she glared at the man who had nearly killed her. She wanted nothing more than to leap out there, take him to the ground and beat his face into a pulp.
But she had spent enough energy erasing the memory of one person, she couldn’t go around doing it to everyone, especially after a length magic battle with this crazed idiot.
She just hoped that the security camera’s didn’t get a good look at what she did.
However, just because she couldn’t make any moves, didn’t mean none could be made. After all, Valerie didn’t come here alone.
A small shadow slinked across the banks floor, flitting in between the existing shadows and also darting across the floor as just a black blob. Beans moved like a shark, circling his prey and waiting for the perfect chance to strike, all whilst his prey was completely oblivious to what was going on beneath him. ƒreewebɳovel.com
When the warlock became distracted with announcing his greatness, so sure of his overwhelming power, that was when Bean’s struck.
It was just a black tail, whipping out of his shadow for barely a second. Anyone who was watching would simply think it was a trick of the eye.
A trick that slashed a deep gash in the back of the bank robbers thigh, as Bean’s spiked tail tore through his Achilles tendon.
He screamed out in pain, the first real pain he had experienced in his pathetic life, as he dropped to one knee. His hand planted against the ground, trying to support himself, only for his hand to land on a spike that suddenly emerged from his shadow.
Tears dripped from his eyes as he screamed again, his other hand clutching at the blood gushing wound that still had a strange spike of bone erupting through it.
The robbers eyes widened in horror, as the shadow beneath him opened up into a bottomless abyss that held a pair of emerald eyes.
"Halt criminal scum!" A commanding voice suddenly shouted from the exploded doorway, drawing all the eyes towards them, as three individuals strode through the open doorway.
They were two men and one woman, each one dressed in extremely expensive and shining armour that looked like it had been pulled straight from Dawd. The two in the back, a man and a woman, had helmets that completely covered their faces, while the leader had a helmet that exposed his face for all to see and stab.
On each of their shoulders, there was an emblem, like a clan marking. It was a mark that both the bank robber and Valerie surprisingly recognised, because it flashed in their face every single time that they logged into their favourite new game.
It was the runic logo of Dawd.
The leader of this mysterious force narrowed his eyes in annoyance at the blood oozing from the multiple wounds, including the hand that no longer had a spike through it nor any eyes below the robber.
Nevertheless, he drew the elegant long sword that hung on his hip and held it out, pointing the sharpened tip at the robber and announcing his practised speech like a knight of old.
"You think that you can harm these people because you have power? Because there was no one around to stop you? Well think again. For we have power, and we are here! We will enforce justice!" He ended with a shout, that his companions quickly echoed.
"WE WILL ENFORCE JUSTICE!" The two followers shouted in unison, before drawing their weapons as well.
Without hesitation, they immediately charged, causing the would-be bank robber to let out a cry of panic as he immediately scampered backwards.
He held out his damaged hand, having to use his good hand to quickly crawl backwards, as bolts of green lightning constantly leapt from his blood soaked palm. It was an incredibly easy and cheap spell, one that he could cast without a care even without a source, as he siphoned the power from his patron.
Of course those watching did not know that, but they did know the lightning’s devastating power after witnessing it first hand. After seeing it tear through the turrets, they thought little of these strange cosplayers posing as heroes. That was until the lightning struck.
The man in the back easily weaved between the lightning, not giving it a chance to even come close to hitting him, whilst the woman raised a round metal shield that was beautifully crafted. It was nothing compared to the turrets however, which were expensive military grade technology.
So naturally, the bystanders eyes bulged and jaws dropped when the lightning struck the shield and dashed against its surface like water off of glass. She took blow after blow against her shield, which shimmered with a faint light, as she constantly advanced behind her impenetrable bulwark.
But that was nothing compared to the leader, who simply cut the lightning in half with a swing of his sword. Every single bolt split in two the moment it met his blade, curving around him like a river diverting around a boulder.
Once that sword drew close enough to the source of the lightning, the strange knight drove it into the gushing wound already in his hand. The sword tore it open wider, splitting his hand in two, as the knight forced the hand back and pinned it to the ground.
He quickly let go of the hilt, grabbing the robber by the throat and giving him two swift and brutal punches to the face. The first splattering blood across the white marble, resulting in some gargling groans, before the second knocked him out completely.
The knight pulled his fist back, ready to deliver a third, when he noticed the robbers head slump back as his eyes rolled into the back of his head.
He scoffed at how easy it was, seeming almost disappointed by the ease, before dropping the robber and clambering to his feet. As the knight leader stepped back, his companions stepped forwards, with one of them taking handcuffs from a pouch of their armour.
They flipped him face down, cuffing his hands behind his back, before the male companion picked him up and dragged the robber from the bank.
The leader narrowed his eyes at the gash in the robbers leg, gritting his teeth and deeply scowling, as he scanned the room. He looked over everyone, lingering on the sight of a strange woman with a cat sitting on her shoulder, but looked away in disgust when he saw that woman using a cane to get to her feet.
He clicked his tongue in annoyance and gave a gesture to his female companion, who immediately stepped forwards and started to address the witnesses still cowering within the bank.
The leader on the other hand stepped to the side, the eyes beneath his helmet glowing orange as he called someone on a secure line, before muttering softly.
"The Demonstration is complete, Minimal casualties. However there were complications..."
