Chapter 250: The Red Eyed Saviour

In the dim light cast by a smouldering shroud, the prisoners could barely make out the silhouette of their saviour, if that was indeed what this individual was.

A few of them, as they stared at those glowing red eyes within the darkness, was sure that it was just another predator that had found its way into this lair, and that they would be slaughtered alongside their captures.

But one individual, who had matted blonde hair and long, pointed ears that drooped at their ends, had been in this darkness longer than the others and had eyes that had adapted better to it. This individual was able to see the Red Eyed Saviour’s figure clearly, as she grabbed the leg of a Grimshawl that tried to flee.

The prisoners eyes widened as they watched the saviour raise the creature up to eye level, before plunging her hand into its chest. Her crimson eyes narrowed and her head tilted, as if she was interested by the results, before she tore her hand out and let the disintegrating corpse fall.

However, even with her hand removed, the prisoner could not see the Saviours hand properly, as it seemed to meld into and become one with the shadows for a few moments, before reforming into a visible silhouette as a small heart dropped from her hand.

The glowing crimson eyes scanned the room with a chilling, predatory gaze, before her head whipped around and those eyes landed on them.

There was a chorus of rattling chains and grinding shackles, as the prisoners flinched at that gaze and tried to shift away from it. But just because their captures were dead, it did not loosen their bindings.

The Red eyed Saviour slowly moved over to them, heading towards the youngest and the frailest first, like a predator picking the weak from the herd. The child in question, a young girl, whimpered and cried, letting out a few pleading begs as the glowing crimson eyes drew closer, until they were directly in front of the girls face.

The girl in question clenched her eyes closed, waiting for her death to come, as she could smell the blood on this monster’s breath. However instead of death, the girl felt her shackles shifting, as a pair of hands fiddled with them, searching for the way to get them off.

"They are enchanted. The creatures use no key nor lock. They simply open at their whim." The long-eared prisoner spoke calmly, causing the crimson eyes to focus on them as they narrowed into slits.

Their voice was gentle, soft and melodic, even if it was filled with misery and despair that had built up over time and dragged their spirit down. However there was no fear present in the slightest, despite the reactions of all the others. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

The long-eared individual kept their eyes on the Red Eyed Saviour as she moved over to them, and even offered their hands for her to inspect as they were locked to a boulder with a long chain rather than the wall. More importantly, their hands were completely covered in the metal bindings, which were formed like tubes, so that their fingers could not move.

The Red Eyed Saviour took their hands, turning them over as they inspected them again, giving the prisoner plenty of time to inspect the saviours face. It was only this close that they could see the faint form of their pale face within the darkness.

But even if it was not much, they memorised every single detail of this woman’s face, and even if they forgot those details, they would never forget those eyes.

After a few seconds of inspection, the Red Eyes lifted to the prisoners own and narrowed again.

"You are a mage, yes?"

"That is correct. Astute of you to notice." The prisoner responded matter-of-factly, managing a soft smile despite the destitute environment that had siphoned away their joy.

"If you were free, would you be able to use that magic to get yourself and the others out? The entrance is a small tunnel, too tight to move through. Can you use teleportation to get out?"

"No... I cannot teleport." The Prisoner answered, "but I can enlarge the tunnel so we can pass through it. However that would make a lot of noise, more so than you have already created. If I were to do that, i fear those creatures would entrap us again with their numbers."

As soon as the prisoner finished their answer, they felt something long and thin enter their shackles, before the weight of the metal disappeared as something sliced them cleanly off.

"Let me worry about their numbers. Follow the wall to your left around the room to the corridor, you will have to squeeze out the exit. Then feel to your left for a marking on the wall. Follow that wall to the entrance." The Red-Eyed Saviour spoke plainly and slowly, making sure that the details of the plan were clearly heard and understood.

All whilst she went down the line of prisoners, cleaving their shackles away with a swipe of her hand, before simply turning on her heels and walking out of the room.

After a few moments of stunned silence, a wave of emotion burst through the confines of the room. The weeping prisoners still wept, but this time it was tears of joy, as they hugged each other and let out hushed cries of stunned joy.

For a few minutes they simply could not believe it was happening, and a part of them was waiting for her to come back with reinforcements and take them prisoner again. But no, they were free. They were actually free and spared from a horrific death.

The long-eared prisoner glanced down at their hands, which had been forced into clenched fists for so long. How long, it was hard to tell without seeing the passing of the sun, but as they uncurled their hands they were stiff as iron and cracked with every slight movement.

But as soon as they were uncurled, the prisoner wriggled their fingers as a few sparks of greenish energy danced between them, and a smile danced upon her lips once again.
