Chapter 800: Chapter 801 – Top Hat – Part 16.
<<Honestly, the revelation that one of the villages that were on our way was destroyed made people terrified.>>
<<We thought that the town was the "closest" target... That if somebody were to get attacked, it would be their town first... But by the looks of things, we were wrong.>>
<<And to make things even worse, we even went past another village few days later... And it was also destroyed.>>
<<And the traces of the destruction that were left behind were identical to the previous one.>>
<<....However, there was also another thing that bothered me.>>
<<WHY THERE WERE NO WILD BEASTS OR MONSTERS?>>
<<Because how the old war, the entire Brittain land ended up being neglected, since everybody was focused on the repairs and their own survival.>>
<<Because of that, each settlement posses some form of military power, which also includes some walls. Even small villages have some people that can fight.>>
<<And yet.... For days we haven’t encountered anything... Dangerous?>>
<<I mean, we did sometimes saw some monsters and beasts, but they were usually the small and weak ones, or just cowards.... Anything that was really dangerous was gone.>>
<<This isn’t good... This isn’t good at all!>>
"..."
"This one is also destroyed.... And we couldn’t find any traces of survivors.... Or even bodies, just in the two villages before." – said Issac as he alongside Lucy and few other guards returned from destroyed village.
"Third one.... Just how far ahead those Red monsters got ahead of us?" – said the worried elderly male vampire.
"..."
"I know this may not be the.... Best location, but at the same time it is safest." – said one of the Vigor’s town leaders, the female human.
"The night it is coming and we had been walking non stop for too long.... People need to rest, especially our horses, if not, they may give out at moment notice."
"..."
"Then let’s do this." – said the elderly vampire.
"We are resting up here for the night."
<<The village was extremely damaged.... And there were clear marks of several different kind of savagery taking place.>>
<<Again, the Red Monsters were here.>>
<<However... There was something off.>>
<<In each of the villages we had encountered, there were signs of battle and "hunt", we found also a traces of large amounts of blood splattered everywhere. There were also weapons like farming tools, sabers or rifles that were either destroyed or were covered in blood.... I could smell some of the blood that was left behind.... And it wasn’t just a civilians.... I smelled that divine blood. It was the Red monsters doing, 100%>>
<<However, we didn’t found any corpses, not even a rooting ones or bones.>>
<<The only thing that was left was blood.>>
<<And there also was the supplies.>>
<<Each village were full of them.>>
<<Some were clearly destroyed or eat by some kind of animal... Maybe the Red monsters did that, since they are still living creatures.>>
<<But what about the corpses? Were they really eaten whole?>>
<<Was the whole village wiped out? We checked their walls, and they had clear sign of something breaking through them...>>
<<The food supplies, as I said before, they were perfectly fine, missing only few bites that were probably devoured by the Red monsters.>>
<<There were also fuel for our cars and some weapons we could take, with some needing some light repairs. There were also some trucks here we could use to transport the additional supplies.... And their tanks were full as well.>>
<<....>>
<<Still, the atmosphere felt heavy.>>
<<We did obtained enough supplies.... For the third time to easily continue our journey.>>
<<But it was the third village! Third village that we had encountered on our way!>>
<<...>>
<<The next settlement will be a town.>>
<<And people are worried that it will end up the same way as the villages....>>
"..."
(And there is also that.) – thought Lucy who was sitting on top of one of the trucks.
(The ones that got fully corrupted by the divine blood end up being nothing more than mindless beasts.... But they worked together during those attacks?) – thought Lucy as she recalled how 3 wave of monsters had each of the waves focusing on the town, while having monster not murdering each other in the process.
(Is there something controlling these monsters?)
(Like some sort of pack leader?)
"..."
"Motherfuckers."
(What sort of other secrets were they keeping from me?)
"..."
*Sigh*
"Jack. Really? Again?" – asked Lucy as without looking could tell that Jack was silently climbing the truck latter.
"Hey. How do you always know when I’m sneaking?" – asked Jack as he gotten on top of the truck.
"I’m a monster. I’ve told you times and times again, my sense are far superior compare to when I was just a human." – said Lucy.
"Anyway, why are you not in bed? Do you know what hour it is now?"
"I’m not really sleepy." – said Jack as he sat beside Lucy.
"I’ve tried to, but nothing was working."
"..." freewёbnoνel.com
"You are scared." – said Lucy.
"I can tell."
(Not just him... Children are also terrified... I mean, we are straight up sleeping in the village that was recently massacred by the monsters we are running away from.) – thought Lucy.
(Even this carefree brat is terrified... He is trying to put up a brave face... But the fear is getting to him.)
"..."
"So.... Why are you not in bed?" – asked Jack, trying to change the subject.
"Somebody needs to be on watch duty and since I have ability to sense the Red monsters, I’m the best fit." – replied Lucy.
"..."
"Look kid. You should go to bed."
"Who knows what will happened? Maybe we will need to start moving at the moment notice."
"Rest up, for every bodies sake."
"..."
"Em...." – Jack was looking at Lucy, trying to say something.
"..."
*Sigh*
"What is it?" – asked Lucy.
"..."
"How.... How was the Old London?" – asked Jack.
"I mean, before the Red monster appeared!"
"My mom... It said that it was a hope of Britain before."
"..."
"A hope... Huh?" – said Lucy with a sad expression.
"..."
"Yes... It was.... Hope."
"It was peaceful. It was ordered."
"It wasn’t perfect per say, just like any settlement.... But still, it was free."
"The Old London was the last hope of ever restoring the Britan to its true glory, before those rotten idiots started off their war."
"But now? With it being properly gone, the Britan is pretty much good as gone.... And the only hope for survival for the people like you all? Is to leave this god forsaken land." frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"You? Why are you saying it like that?" – asked Jack.
"..."
"Because the moment I will bring you all to safety, I will go my own way." – said Lucy.
"!"
"You are coming with us?!" – shouted Jack.
"Quiet down... It is middle of the night." – said Lucy as Jack started trying to shake her arm.
"I’m a monster. I’ve told you again and again.... The only reason why I’m with you is because I’m worried about you all."
"But the moment you leave the Brittain.... It is for the best if I will go my own way afterwords."
"I know you are worried about me, but what about the people here? Your family, your friends?"
"Do you really want to put them in danger because of me? Do you want them to suffer so I cannot?"
"I’m speaking realistically here kiddo... The world isn’t fair."
"And you probably already seen it more than enough in this short span of time." – said Lucy as she pointed at one of the village’s houses, a one that was completely demolished and had extremely large amount of blood splattered all over it."
"This could had been you and the entire Vigor town, if they didn’t decided to move."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"Honestly speaking now.... I’ve never wanted to spent my entire life in Old London."
"It was... A nice city, before all shit that went down there."
"Heck. I had a job there.... However, it wasn’t like.... Well, extremely well-paying job... More like voluntary job.... I ran an orphanage."
"The orphanage... It was nice.... I had a lot of friends there and in the city."
"I was important to them and what not.... But at the same time, I didn’t wanted that job."
"Heck, if anything, I wanted to run away."
"The only thing of Britain was the two cities, one corrupted one, and one somewhat pure.... As well as several settlements."
"But that was it."
"Honestly.... I wanted to explore the world."
"A childish dream, if I’m honest."
"But.... It was my dream."
"Many call me a good person."
"A selfless person."
"But in reality, I just wanted to run away."
"I wanted to run away from my job."
"I wasn’t imagining it.... I was planning it."
"I wanted to abandon the people that I knew, for the childish dream that I had."
"..."
"But at the same time, I couldn’t really leave the orphanage alone.... So, I was making preparations that somebody else would grow enough to fit in my position.... And I also wanted the orphanage to be in good enough state...."
"But again... I was dreaming of and was planning to just run away."
"I’m and still am a selfish person who only cares about themselves above everybody else."
"..."
"No you are not." – said Jack.
"Oh yeah? And why you think that?" – asked Lucy in mocking tone.
"Because you didn’t abandoned us." – said Jack.
"Even when people called you monsters after you had saved them, you could just had walked away.... And yet you didn’t."
"So.... I don’t think you are selfish at all."
"..."
"Stupid kid." – said Lucy.
"Just go back to bed before your mom finds you. She maybe looking for even now."
"!"
"Oh shit!" – said Jack as he realized he maybe in real trouble as he noticed his mother in the distance.
"Hey, language kiddo." – said Lucy as Jack got off the truck and started running away.
"..."
(He is right.... He maybe a stupid kid.... But he is right.) – thought Lucy.
(Why.... Why I didn’t just abandoned these people?)
