Chapter 8: The Situation Changed

As the table was frozen with the frost, icy air emitted from the wood.

Alden looked at his food. His tasty meat had been completely frozen, which he had especially saved for eating at the very last.

Beside him, Kaelian sat stiffly. His blood ran cold. He felt like his hand had been lost to the frost, trapped in place. He wasn’t able to move. He forced a smile on his lips and acted like he hadn’t been affected by the sudden attack.

"Alicia, my dear~ calm down..."

She looked at him with cold, emotionless eyes.

"Stop fooling around and get to the point. I don’t have time for you."

Kaelian’s smile vanished from his face. He looked at her calmly, wearing a composed demeanor, trying to deal with her with calmly.

"I heard that you had rejected the marriage proposal which my father had sent. We are suitable for each other, as we have been together since our childhood."

Alicia leaned back in her chair and stared at him flatly.

"Sorry, I am not interested, nor do I have any feelings for you. I don’t think I even considered you as my friend. There is no way I am going to marry you."

Kaelian’s calm gesture faltered as he looked into her cold eyes. There was no hint of her once young self in them. She looked like a completely different person than the past her. It was like she did not even care about his existence. Kaelian panicked as he saw her already casting her gaze away from him.

"Wait, Alicia... did you really forget the sweet time we had spent with each other? We had played together, laughed together, we had talked about our dreams and goals with each other... Are you giving up on us? That’s not fair, Alicia..."

Alicia didn’t reply immediately, maintaining the uncomfortable silence.

Beside them, Alden felt his level of awkwardness had reached its peak. He tried to stand up to leave this awkward situation. Alicia glanced at him as she undo her magic as the Frost receded, but she didn’t say anything as he prepared to go.

But the guy sitting beside him voluntarily wanted to prove his villainous traits, that he was not letting him go without creating a scene.

"Hey you, who gave you the permission to walk away from this place? Let me tell you your place..."

Kaelian turned his eyes toward Alden. His gaze was cold.

Alden paused from walking away. His calmness had also reached its limit. He had already heard enough of this bullshit up to now. He suddenly turned around toward the boy, looking down at him.

"Who are you to give me permission? Do you think your shitty intimidation would do anything to me? If you think it does, then how lowly of you."

He didn’t stop there.

"Even with your talk of bloodline and powers, you are just showing your superiority. At who? Me? The one who is at the very bottom of the academy?"

"What the f*ck are you going to achieve by making me know my place? For your kind information, I already know my place. So stop your shitty bullshit and focus on doing your own work."

"Don’t take it out on me after getting rejected flatly to your face. You look like a lunatic who is searching for someone to blame. Isn’t that it?"

Alden stepped forward. His crimson eyes stared at Kaelian with a dead look.

"Now, it’s proven why she had rejected you without even giving it a second thought. You are just being a scumbag trying to force your way into someone else’s life."

Kaelian looked at him blankly. He slowly gritted his teeth as his blood boiled in rage. He looked at Alden with the expression of a person who is just a step away from executing someone.

Alden didn’t look away, meeting his eyes head-on. Instead of backing away in fear at his rage, Alden calmed down and stepped forward toward him. A small smirk suddenly formed on his lips.

"You know what? If you really touch me now, then whatever I had said will be proven right. And I know your dignity is not so low. Someone like you, the son of the strongest SS-ranker, wouldn’t actually try to hurt a frail, weak guy like me, right?"

The surrounding area turned tense. The students started to whisper in the cafeteria as they stared at the drama unfolding. A few students who seemed to be friends of Kaelian, likely his subordinates, came forward toward Alden.

"Hey, don’t you dare say anything about our friend," a boy named Leon warned him.

"Do you wish to die, you little piece of shit?" another friend said with a hint of anger.

"You have a sharp tongue. Should we cut it out?" a tall-looking boy said, while his nails grew as long as a finger.

"Hehe... I want to see if that guy actually has guts," a girl said, amused by the situation. She also stepped forward to support Kaelian.

Alden looked at them for a moment. He didn’t say anything. He looked at the group, then turned to look at the surroundings. He saw the gazes of the students watching him.

Most of them wore the same look as the people standing in front of him. An expression of disgust, as if they considered his very existence in this place to be a stain on the academy.

The students whispered around, talking about how he acted here and in the classroom, labeling him a bad guy.

Alden finally understood the exact meaning of the quest.

The quest didn’t just come out of nowhere. It was designed to show him his haters and force him to confront them to their faces.

He looked blankly at them. They stared at him with smirks, acting as if they had already planned how to deal with him.

Alden stood silently. Suddenly, he couldn’t hold back anymore. He started to laugh.

"Hahahaha... hahahaha..."
