Chapter 20: Lackey
Shortly after Skyler covered his mouth and let out occasional small squeaks, Ray clasped his hands together.
"What a good spar, right?" He exhaled deeply, almost as if he had just gone through a war.
"Hmm, no response? Does that mean the spar is continuing?"
When he heard nobody responding, he turned back to Skyler and prepared to do another kick.
Skyler’s face quickly turned pale as he raised the hand that was covering his mouth.
"It’s over. You win. You win." He said in haste, afraid that Ray might really destroy his manhood and turn him into a woman.
A lunatic like Ray... nothing was impossible for him.
"Hoh, I win?" Ray rubbed his chin and grinned. "Does that mean you accept being my lackey?"
Before Skyler could even retort or respond, Ray made sure to warn him.
"Do remember that I hate liars. If they lied, I’d lose control again and maybe kick in frustration on repeat." He dangled his leg around in a slightly threatening manner.
Sure enough, his provocation and near threat provoked the rest.
They wanted to approach them and stop the spar, but Ray quickly darted at them with a fierce expression.
"This is a spar between Skyler and me. If anyone dares to intervene or disrupt us, do you think Father would let you off?" He asked coldly.
"Father wouldn’t let you abuse him like that!" Jake hurriedly shouted in defense, mainly because he could feel and understand Skyler’s pain as a fellow man.
This wasn’t even about sibling rivalries anymore!
What Ray did was absolutely diabolical and should be considered taboo amongst men!
"It’s just a spar, but you’re acting like you’re going to kill him. Father won’t tolerate this!" Jake continued his argument.
One might think Ray would back off, as he actually retreated from Skyler.
However, in the next moment, Ray picked up the sword that Skyler had dropped earlier.
He glanced at the sword and saw it glinting in a dazzling light.
He touched the blade very lightly and could feel the sharpness.
"Wow, what a very sharp sword. If one failed to block or dodge in time, then they might have been sliced in half already." He chuckled softly and pointed the sword at Skyler.
"Just then, Skyler started the spar and swung his sword so violently at me without warning. Should I perceive that as the norm in sparring within the Carrion Household? If so, then allow me!"
Shortly after his statement, Ray raised the sword and began a swinging motion.
Jake’s face turned ashen white when he realized his words not only provoked Ray further, but he even caused Skyler to face another life-threatening move.
Skyler’s face was filled with anger. He wasn’t angry at Ray but at Jake’s loud mouth.
Didn’t Ray just suggest the spar to be over?
Why the fuck would you butt in and make him continue?
Does it look like he was still in any condition to continue the spar??!
’I’ll fucking kill you, Jake!’ Skyler was convinced that Jake was trying to use Ray’s hand to eliminate him in the inheritance war.
After all, only he and Jake were male within the family if one didn’t account for Ray’s presence.
"That’s enough!"
From out of nowhere, a voice resounded, catching everyone’s attention.
As they turned their heads, their expression turned into shock.
"F-Father..." Jake stutteringly called out.
Indeed, at the balcony of the sparring area, Robert was seated comfortably.
Robert ignored Jake’s calling. Instead, he focused on Ray and asked, "Have you noticed my presence here from the start?"
There were numerous times that Ray wandered dangerously close to his position. Yet there was no reaction.
"I wouldn’t become an adopted son if I wasn’t that vigilant, Father." Ray curled his lips upward and smirked.
He appeared confident on the surface, but silently, he was losing his shit.
’Holy crap! When the fuck was he there? Shit, did he see everything then? Oh my god!’
"Hah, you really are something else," Robert commented and waved his hand. Soon, particles of light appeared and rushed toward Skyler.
The particles quickly dazzled upon Skyler, and the wounds on his body, especially the lower part, began to heal.
"Although quite disturbing, the spar didn’t specify any rules, and it remains a fact that Skyler made a move without any announcement. But hopefully, you wouldn’t use such means again on your siblings." He calmly said, clearly not planning on punishing him for the deed.
"I understand, Father." Ray nodded his head.
"Those moves were something I did to the robbers earlier, so I had hoped to wait a little while longer because once I go into real battle. I show no mercy."
"I can tell." Robert stood up from his chair before shifting his sights to the rest.
"A spar is intended only for those who are sparring. To disturb or attempt to interrupt is not the style of Carrion."
The children remained silent during the light lecture.
Once they understood their mistake from the silent response, Robert merely glanced at Skyler briefly before shaking his head.
Needless to say, Robert was beyond disappointed at Skyler’s attack.
’This adopted son doesn’t even have a magic core, but could think of such an unconventional method. What a surprise.’
It wasn’t that one couldn’t cast any magic without a magic core. It was just that without a magic core to act as the stabilizer and compressor, it would become difficult for the user to control the mana they conjured.
Therefore, Robert didn’t question how Ray managed to cast an elemental barrier. Instead, he was more astonished that an elemental barrier could be used in such a manner to disrupt your opponent’s momentum and pace.
By the time Robert took his exit, Ray heaved a sigh of relief.
’Fucking hell, that old man is like a stalker.’ He thought to himself. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
He patted his chest and turned to Skyler, who finally got up from the ground.
"Brother—ah, I mean my lackey. Bring me to my room. I’m tired now." He said loudly, ensuring that nobody could miss it unless they were deaf in the ears.
