Chapter 13: Requires Skill

"A rogue reader? What the heck is that?" Belva raised an eyebrow in confusion. Such a term was unheard of despite knowing both the words.

"Forget it." Ray waved his hand when he realized nobody in this world would understand him. "Only a true fellow peer and people of culture would understand my suffering."

"..."

Once again, Belva felt she had been insulted by him in a language that she couldn’t comprehend.

"Anyway, can we go now?" She glanced at the sky and realized they were already late.

"Hold up a few seconds." Ray clicked his tongue. He was still waiting for the system to make a decision on whether he could devour these monsters or not.

’Don’t be a troll, system. If you’re telling me these monsters aren’t qualified, I’ll strangle you.’ He clenched his fist.

DING!

[Generating the possible abilities to devour!]

With the system prompt, he could finally heave a sigh of relief. Alas, he didn’t get to be in relief for much longer when the system decided to be sassy with him.

[Didn’t the host say to stay as mute? Why did you get scared when I acted on your command?]

’Yes, a mute in this kind of remarks. Just give me the autonomous system prompt on the current thing. I don’t need another backseat gamer type.’ He rolled his eyes.

A few seconds later, the system prompt replied with three possible skills to devour: feast, feral movement, and claws.

The feast naturally referred to the biting and eating kind.

’Do I look like I lack any teeth to eat?’ Ray clicked his tongue and outright banned this one.

The claws were even more ridiculous. It transformed his fingernails into razor-sharp claws.

Did it look like he was the type to go into close combat or enjoy swinging his hand like Wolverine?

HELL NO!

’I’ll take the feral movement.’ He decided upon realizing that the skill enhanced his agility and speed.

[You have devoured the Feral Movement!]

Soon, details of the skill were directly imprinted in his mind, making it seem like he knew about the skill all along.

This not only saved him time to learn the skill, but also ensured he wouldn’t need to train like those protagonists who had to repeat "X" movement for "Y" hours.

Once that was done, Ray turned to Belva and asked. "Are their monster meats delicious?"

He had always been curious about the food used in the Lord of Magic setting.

Despite the description listed in the novel, nothing could beat eating the food directly and having his taste buds do the judgment. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

After all, a real culture person enjoys good food.

"The monsters are indeed delicious if prepped correctly. Their carcasses and other things in their body could also be sold for a lot of money." Belva explained.

"Perfect!" Ray smacked his lips and instructed her to dissect the monsters for later use.

"The faster you are done with it, the faster we can make our way to the Carrion Household. You have wasted enough of our time, so let’s make haste." He continued.

’What do you mean I wasted time?’ She was about to snap. Just how shameless was he to push the blame onto her?

’Calm down, Belva. This villainous bastard cannot be reasoned with. He’s a lunatic and a complete rogue.’

With that in mind, she began her work to dissect the monsters. At the same time, she made sure to clean up the bodies from earlier.

Meanwhile, Ray did the hardest task ever.

"Ahh, lying down does require skills." frёewebnoѵēl.com

He was lying on the ground with his right leg hanging over his left. His hands were behind the back of his head as he stared at the sky with a profound gaze.

"If only there were internet access and video games for me to play to pass the time, how nice that would be?" He muttered.

A few seconds later, he pursed his lips when the system gave no response.

"Oh, come on, give me access to the internet and video games." He called out to it in frustration.

The sense of freshness of being transported was kind of done. He needed some entertainment to cleanse his boredom.

[You’re here as punishment, and not as a vacation for offending the great author, Chasing Star.]

"Fuck you!" Ray flashed his middle finger.

Unfortunately, the timing of his action coincided with Belva’s return.

"You really are something." She twitched her mouth in disbelief. Not only did he delegate all the dirty work to her, but the moment she accomplished it, she received a middle finger.

Although she couldn’t comprehend the meaning behind it, she was definitely certain it was an insulting remark.

"Yeah, I’m exhausted." Ray didn’t feel any embarrassment and lowered his hand. "Do carry me with magic. This much walking has drained me."

Some people might start exercising or do all sorts of movements when they are granted a new chance to walk around without any prosthetic leg or aching pain.

But not him!

He was lazy and enjoyed the perfect excuse to not move around much.

"Are you really that lazy?" Belva questioned.

"Yes and no!" Ray responded.

"I am doing what you called, conserving energy. When I arrive at the Carrion Household, it’s gonna be another war. A war where you cannot interfere or intervene whatsoever."

She was stunned by the statement.

Not the wording, but by the tone.

It was full of seriousness, especially the part when he mentioned war.

"Why are you looking shocked?" Ray raised an eyebrow and smirked. His eyes gazed in the direction of the Carrion Household.

"Those soon-to-be siblings of mine are all sadistic and immoral. If I express even a slight weakness, they would latch onto it and put me into ruin."

He wasn’t ignorant of the vile nature of those born in the Carrion Household.

Mediocre was basically a death sentence. To strive to the top, one must step on others without hesitation and use them as a ladder to climb.

"Was that why you refused to let me cleanse the blood on your clothes?" Belva asked. When she cleansed her blood, she spotted some of them in his clothes and offered to clean them, only to be rejected.

"Partially." Ray took a deep breath. "It’s time to see who’s crazier."
