Chapter 496: Chapter 493: Coward
The Pig Emperor’s memories were fragmented and chaotic, with many still sealed away. Thus, while it knew some secrets, the specific details remained unclear.
In its memory, Mo Qi’s mother was a terrifyingly powerful existence.
Back then, Queen Mo Yan had certainly been formidable, but not to the point where she could have defeated and sealed Mo Qi’s mother.
Therefore, the Pig Emperor didn’t dare to claim it knew the real truth of the matter.
Only time would reveal the full story.
After much consideration, the Pig Emperor decided not to correct Mo Qi’s understanding of the Laws of space and time.
’Comprehending a Law—and being able to use it—with only a Vajra Realm Cultivation... It’s simply unthinkable. Since Mo the kid mistakenly thinks it’s nothing special, I’ll just let him keep thinking that. It’ll save a lot of unnecessary trouble.’
Just then, the Scab Chicken, Mo Tu, came trotting back with an obsequious grin plastered on its face.
"Young Master is mighty! Young Master is magnificent! Young Master is invincible!"
Mo Qi felt absolutely nothing. He was even tempted to give Mo Tu a good smack.
He had nothing to say to this utterly shameless chicken.
He had assumed that after living in the Desperate Mountain Range for over thirty thousand years, the chicken would be intimately familiar with the terrain.
Who would have thought that after puffing out its chest and guaranteeing it could lead them out of the Desperate Mountain Range, the chicken would get them lost within a mere hour.
The Pig Emperor rapped the Scab Chicken on its head and asked irritably, "Mo Tu, do you actually know the way out or not?"
"Of course I do!" the Scab Chicken blurted out.
"Then why do I get the feeling we’ve been walking in circles?" the Pig Emperor said, pointing to a nearby rock. "If I’m not mistaken, we’ve seen this exact rock three times already!"
The Scab Chicken’s face flushed red, but it held its head high and retorted stubbornly, "I’m just getting my bearings! I was trapped for over thirty thousand years, after all. The landscape has changed a lot. But don’t you worry. Just give me a little more time, and I’ll get us out of here."
With that, the Scab Chicken looked around with great deliberation, "earnestly" surveying its surroundings before pointing in one direction.
"We’ll go that way!"
The Pig Emperor: "..."
Mo Qi: "..."
"We just came from that direction," the Pig Emperor couldn’t help but point out.
The Scab Chicken: "Uh..."
The atmosphere instantly became incredibly awkward.
...
"Die, monster!"
A young man in green robes pointed a finger to the sky. A wheel of orange-red flame burst forth from his fingertip, expanding outward into a halo the size of a dinner plate.
Before the young man stood a bizarre-looking Exotic Beast.
It was about ten feet tall and humanoid in shape, but it had no face. Its powerful limbs glinted with a metallic luster, and black wisps of energy coiled around its body.
Five fingers, like an eagle’s talons, were faintly visible. It was an Abyssal Demon!
The young man swung his arm, and the ring of flame shot forward, vanishing into thin air.
"ROAR!"
The Abyssal Demon let out a great roar and lunged forward. At that exact moment, however, the space before it rippled, and the ring of flame suddenly reappeared.
The Abyssal Demon sensed the danger, but it was too late to dodge. It could only cross its arms to protect its vitals.
HISS!
With a soft sound, the ring of flame effortlessly broke through the Abyssal Demon’s defenses and bored into its body.
BOOM!
A muffled explosion echoed as a massive fire erupted from within the Abyssal Demon.
In the blink of an eye, the Abyssal Demon was reduced to cinders.
Seeing this, the young man’s lips curled into a smirk, and he nodded in satisfaction.
He glanced toward a corner in the distance, a flicker of disdain in his eyes.
"Alright, the monster’s dead. You can come out now."
As the young man finished speaking, a man and a woman emerged from the corner.
"That was so close! We would’ve been in real danger if you weren’t here, Brother He," Qin Xueyun said, skipping over. Though her words spoke of danger, her flushed face and excited expression told a different story.
Gu Peng followed behind her, his expression grim.
"Jinbo, Xue Yun, we’re deep inside the Desperate Mountain Range now. With our level of cultivation, this is far too dangerous. We should turn back immediately," Gu Peng proposed.
He Jinbo let out a cold laugh, the disdain in his eyes intensifying.
He didn’t show it openly, however. Instead, he turned to Qin Xueyun, his gaze lingering for a long moment on her chest, which jiggled with her every excited movement.
"Xue Yun, what do you think?" He Jinbo asked, letting his gaze travel down from her chest, past her flat stomach and the mysterious triangle below, finally resting on her long, slender thighs.
Qin Xueyun was well aware of He Jinbo’s brazen gaze. Not only did she not mind, she moved closer to him, swaying her body slightly as she spoke in a coquettish tone.
"Brother He, you’re so powerful, and you even have the Void Spirit Flash Flame. Of course I’ll listen to you. You’ll protect me, won’t you?"
"Of course!" He Jinbo readily agreed, thoroughly pleased with how things were going.
"Gu Peng, if you’re scared, you can head back on your own. We were in the first group to enter the Desperate Mountain Range, which means we have the best chance of completing the mission from the Master of the Desperate Mountain Range. I have no intention of missing such a golden opportunity," He Jinbo said.
Gu Peng knew that with Qin Xueyun present, He Jinbo would deliberately oppose him no matter what.
Ordinarily, Gu Peng would have turned and left without giving He Jinbo another thought.
But not today.
This was the Desperate Mountain Range!
He couldn’t care less about He Jinbo, but he couldn’t bear the thought of something happening to Qin Xueyun.
"He Jinbo, be reasonable! There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Do you really think someone who warrants a bounty from the Master of the Desperate Mountain Range is going to be some simple pushover? Besides, this is the Desperate Mountain Range, it’s fraught with danger. You may have the Void Spirit Flash Flame, but with your level of cultivation, how many times can you even use it?"
He Jinbo, however, was unfazed. "No matter how special the target is, it doesn’t change the fact that he only has a Vajra Realm Cultivation. As long as I find him, I’m one hundred percent confident I can kill him."
"You’re too arrogant!" Gu Peng said, his anger rising. "I won’t stop you if you want to get yourself killed, but don’t drag Xue Yun down with you! Xue Yun, listen to me. Leave with me."
However, Qin Xueyun simply lowered her head without responding, hiding herself behind He Jinbo.
Clearly, Qin Xueyun had made her choice.
"Xue Yun...?" A pang of pain shot through Gu Peng’s heart.
"Tch. You’ve got the nerve to pursue Xue Yun when you’re this much of a coward? You should just crawl back to your Gu Family and be a good little blacksmith for the rest of your life!" He Jinbo sneered.
Just then, Qin Xueyun spoke up. "Brother Gu, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I don’t want to miss it. You... you should just go back on your own."
Gu Peng felt something inside him snap. freeweɓnøvel.com
He and Qin Xueyun were childhood friends, both from the same Sub-Palace of the Hall of Envoys.
He Jinbo, on the other hand, was someone they had only met a little over a year ago, and the He Family belonged to a different Sub-Palace.
Gu Peng never would have imagined that Qin Xueyun would reject him and choose to trust He Jinbo instead.
