Chapter 28: Julian vs Tim ( 1 )

The deafening roar of thousands of spectators shook the dark granite pillars of the colosseum as the dust from the previous preparations finally settled. High above, the cold wind howled, but down on the stone stage, the air was thick with bloodlust.

Up in the grand announcer’s booth, an inner disciple with a voice amplified by a Blood Worm began to shout, his words echoing across.

’Ladies and gentlemen, cultivators of the Vampire Sect! The stage has been cleared, the path has been chosen, and the first true clash of the Grand Awakening Tournament is upon us! the match between Julian and Tim is about to begin!’

Down in the center of the massive, white-sand ring, the referee stepped between the two boys. He glanced at Julian, who stood with a smug, arrogant smirk, and then at Tim, whose muscles were tense with anticipation. The referee raised his hand high into the freezing air, his voice cutting through the noise.

’Match One, begin!’

The referee shot backward, clearing the stage.

Instantly, Julian let out a scoff. freewebnøvel.com

’Die, commoner trash!’ Julian roared, aiming a straight, heavy punch meant to end the fight in a single second.

But Tim didn’t try to block it. Instead, he twisted his body and sprinted to the side, running in a perfect, rapid circle around the perimeter of the ring.

Julian’s punch hit nothing but empty air. He skidded to a halt, his eyes widening in confusion as he spun around, trying to track his opponent.

Tim’s speed was completely unnatural, his legs blurred against the white sand, kicking up a dust cloud as he circled Julian like a predator.

’What’s the matter, prince guy looks like mommy got you too slow?!’ Tim shouted, his voice coming from three different directions at once because of his sheer velocity.

Up in the bleachers, Santiago leaned forward, his jade green eyes narrowing as he analyzed the movement.

’He’s fast. That’s not standard fledgling speed.’

’He’s using a Horse Strength Blood Worm,’ Evan murmured from beside him, his black eyes tracking Tim’s precise movements.

A second earlier, the system had already notified him about the blood worm and its description.

’It’s a Basic Blood Worm, it infuses the user’s lower body with the raw, explosive kinetic force of a galloping stallion. He’s sacrificing defense for pure, unadulterated speed.

Even in this world, some non-magical creatures exist, like bears, horses and others...

Down on the stage, Tim saw his opening. As Julian turned his back to look for him, Tim changed direction instantly, lunging straight toward the noble’s blind spot at a terrifying speed.

But Julian wasn’t a fool. Hearing the rapid footsteps tearing through the sand behind him, a cruel smile flashed across his face.

He didn’t even turn around. Instead, he violently slammed his fist against his own chest aperture.

Puff!

A thick, stinging cloud of dark, yellowish vapor exploded out of Julian’s sleeves, instantly engulfing a five-meter radius around him.

It was the Basic Eye Burning Smoke Blood Worm. It only lasted for a mere three seconds, but in a high-speed fight, three seconds was an eternity.

Tim, traveling too fast to brake, ploughed directly into the yellowish fog. Instantly, a horrific, searing pain blasted into his corneas.

’Ahhh! My eyes!’ Tim screamed, his vision going completely white as tears and blood welled up, his perfect momentum shattering in an instant.

’Got you, horsey,’ Julian sneered.

He drove a brutal, heavy punch straight into Tim’s exposed jaw. The impact sounded like a cracking whip. Tim’s body was thrown violently backward, tumbling over the hard stone floor before skidding to a halt near the edge of the ring.

The crowd erupted into cheers, the aristocrats in the VIP stalls laughing loudly.

’And Julian strikes first!’ the commentator bellowed.

’A textbook execution of the Eye Burning Smoke! Tim is blinded, disoriented, and completely open.’

Julian didn’t waste a single breath. He leapt high into the air, his heavy boot aimed downward to crush Tim’s skull while he lay prone on the ground.

But as Julian descended, he missed the subtle, sharp grin forming on Tim’s face through the blood.

This was exactly what Tim had planned. He had purposely let his guard down to bait the arrogant noble into a reckless, airborne assault.

Just as Julian’s boot was inches away, Tim’s eyes snapped open, red and bloodshot, but completely focused.

With the explosive agility of his Horse Strength worm, Tim executed a lightning-fast backflip right off the dirt, shifting his weight perfectly in mid-air.

Before Julian could even register the trap, Tim brought both of his legs backward and thrust them forward with maximum power, catching Julian squarely in the center of his chest.

’Iron Hoof Drop Kick!’ Tim roared.

The double-footed kick landed with the sound of a roaring cannon. The sheer horse like strength behind the strike shattered Julian’s defensive Qi barrier instantly.

Julian let out a breathless gasp as he was blasted backward across the arena, his boots dragging deep trenches into the sand. He skidded nearly twenty meters before coughing violently, spitting a thick glob of crimson blood onto the pristine white floor.

The stadium went dead silent for a fraction of a second before exploding into absolute chaos. The commoner students were jumping up and down, screaming Tim’s name.

’Unbelievable!’ the commentator shrieked, gripping his Blood Worm that looked like a microphone.

’A massive counter-play! Tim Baited Julian into the air and delivered a devastating Iron Hoof Drop Kick! Julian is bleeding!’

Hannah clapped her hands together in excitement from the front row.

Even she did not know why she liked helpless people so much. If she were fighting someone, it felt like she wanted the other to win. Such naivenes made Evan’s heart burn of anger.

’He actually landed it! Julian is hurt!’

’No, he’s not,’ Evan said coldly.

’Look at his face.’

Down on the stage, Tim was already sprinting forward again, his legs pumping furiously as he prepared to deliver a second, finishing drop kick while Julian was still recovering.

The air rushed past him, his momentum reaching its absolute peak.

But Julian, still kneeling in the sand, slowly wiped the blood from his lips with the back of his hand.

He didn’t look panicked. He didn’t look afraid. Instead, he looked up at the oncoming Tim, his eyes twisting into a dark, maniacal expression of pure, aristocratic malice.

He slowly stood up, reaching his hand inside his silken waistcoat, right over his beating heart where his aperture pulsed.

’You really thought a filthy stray like you could match a high born house with just a basic horse worm?’Julian whispered, his voice dripping with venomous amusement.

He pulled his hand out, and a blinding, suffocating silver light suddenly erupted from his palm, causing the temperature between people to skyrocket.

’Let me introduce you to my Awakened Blood Worm.’
