Chapter 26: Elder Darcy

’The first match is between Julian and Tim, the match shall begin three minutes from now,’ the principal said, and as soon as he did, the crowd burst into excitement. freewebnøvel.coɱ

Meanwhile, Hannah was quite afraid.

’Three minutes... I mean shouldn’t they be given more time, like ten minutes or so?’ she said with a worried expression.

’They get money from the spectators, the faster the action is, the more the excitement and the more the excitement there is, the more the money they earn,’ Santiago said rubbing his eyes.

What he said was completely true, the purpose of the tournament was not simply to see the skills of the students, but rather because of money or, more specifically, blood stones.

All the blood stones earned from the tournament were to go in the pockets of some elders and the principal, and the amount would not be a mere three to four blood stones, but rather could range from ten to twenty thousand!

Blood stones had a great impact on a cultivator or a magical person’s life. Not only was it used for cultivation and refining blood worms, it was also used as a currency in this world.

Evan smiled sarcastically as he realized that the greed for money not only existed in the non-magical world, but also in this magical world.

’Greed has no limits,’ he thought.

’The main thing that makes me feel kind of angry is that people pay money to watch bloodshed. They mask themselves as innocents, but the truth is that no one is innocent, be it mortal people or cultivators. Mortals use their title as protection so that they are not killed in war, but how come are they any different from the people fighting? Like the cultivators or soldiers, they are also watching people getting killed right now and do not care. Not only do they not care, but they also pay for people to fight and kill each other just for their source of entertainment.’

Santiago, who seemed to have read Evan’s mind, said,

’Spectators are tired from their work the whole year, so to have some entertainment, they watch the tournament---’

’What kind of entertainment is this, if they like to see blood so much then why not go and kill for yourself... if they think and talk as if killing is as easy as drinking water, why don’t they do it themselves,’ he said.

Santiago opened his mouth to answer but Evan replied to himself on his own.

’This is because they are sons of bitches... got all bark and no bite.’

Santiago laughed and Hannah also smiled a little.

’Well it is not like people love to see killing but you know... they do need a source of entertainment,’ Santiago said.

Evan could not do anything else but just shake his head in disbelief.

Hannah, who looked like she wanted to change the topic for a long time, finally found a reason to do so.

’Look Julian and Tim are entering the ring,’ she said pointing towards the ring where a tall, skinny, pale-skinned guy stood. Standing opposite to him was Tim, a short, blonde boy who looked different from all other students.

He, unlike others who were wearing normal black track suit that had been provided by the academy, was rather wearing a black cloak that gave him a look like a magus.

’What’s up with his clothes? He looks like a magus,’ Evan asked.

’What is a magus?’ Hannah asked in the response of the question he had asked, Santiago was also looking at him, because apparently magus was not a word used in this world and no one knew about it.

But Evan, who had come from the non-magical world had heard the word magus many times.

’I don’t know... my tongue slipped,’ he said trying to control the uncontrollable situation.

Hannah, not able to get any new information finally sighed and said,

’He was born to mortal parents and those kids who are born cultivators while belonging to a mortal family are to wear that cloak... it represents their family’s pride I think or I don’t know there can be another reason.’

’Ahh I see.’

On the grand wooden platform.

’That kid Evan is getting the fourth match... I wish he had gotten the first, it is the sole special reason for me being here, the other is of course to watch some battle. I am kind of bored these days,’ an elderly man said to a person sitting at his right side while looking at the ring.

’Elder Levi, what joy is there in watching bloodshed? Haven’t you killed enough people already. You should just watch for the sake of the sect’s benefit,’ the person replied.

’Darcy, you cunning old fox, do not try to teach me things, if I remember correctly you killed every single opponent during your time in the tournament. Not only that, your father was an Abyss Path Awakened Vampire, but unfortunately for him, he was killed by his own son,’ Elder Levi thought but did not dare to speak.

Not only because of political reasons and if they fought the whole stadium would break down but also that among all sect elders, Elder Darcy was considered the strongest one and even if the other elders did not show it, they did accept this fact.

Elder Darcy was a Nightmare Path Cultivator, with his current cultivation level being Peak Stage Ascendant.

His tales were famous all across the tribe, as not only was he the strongest elder but also the youngest person after the supreme leader to ever become an elder.

While others usually achieved this position at the age of sixty to seventy years, he became an elder when he was twenty five.

He had a B-Rank Talent and was a prodigy, who started to talk at the age of one, started to write poems at the age of three and most importantly, he refined a Blood Worm at the age of ten.

The only thing that kept him from reaching the immortal realm was not because he did not have the capability to do so but rather because of the seventh law of the sect for cultivators, that stated,

Any person, whether male or female, old or young, has to serve the sect for thirty years as an elder, before trying to cultivate to the Immortal realm.

Darcy, was going to complete his thirty year service as an elder the following month.

’He might become an Immortal Vampire when he has turned sixty, and here I am... who reached the position of an elder at this age,’ Elder Levi thought.

’You’re right Lord Darcy... I should be enjoying all these matches and see the skills of all the students and not only focus on bloodshed entirely,’ said Levi to Darcy, trying to maintain his dignity while keeping relations with him peaceful.

’Oh look the match has started.’
