Chapter 709: Finally Sure He Wasn’t Dreaming

The prenatal checkup went without a hitch. Michael even checked with the doctor to find out whether Wendy could travel long distances by car.

After checking with the doctor repeatedly, Michael finally traveled to Queen’s City by car with Wendy the next day.

Michael arranged for a spacious eight-seater car and even brought a doctor with them.

After Wendy got into the car and saw the doctor, she asked in surprise, "What are you doing here?"

Dr. Lee reached his hand out, adjusted his spectacles, and glanced at Michael powerlessly as he said, "Mr. Lucas asked me to come along with you."

Wendy turned to look at Michael. She did not know whether to cry or laugh.

Before Wendy could say a word, Michael said, "It is safer to bring a doctor with us."

"Didn’t he already say everything was fine yesterday?" asked Wendy. "I am just sitting in the car. It is not like I am driving it on my own. Also, this is a huge car, so I have plenty of space to lie down and rest. Why would I need a doctor?"

"Well, he is already here, isn’t he?" Michael smiled as he helped Wendy into the seat before telling the driver, "Start the engine."

The chauffeur started the car immediately.

Now that the car had started, it was too late for Wendy to get Dr. Lee to get out of it.

It was clear that Michael would never allow her to go on that trip without Dr. Lee.

Never mind. If the doctor had to come, so be it.

Michael kept checking on Wendy during their eight-hour car journey almost every few minutes.

Initially, Dr. Lee felt Michael was just trying to be safe by bringing him along on the trip.

Dr. Lee gradually felt he was here to serve as the audience while Michael played the good husband.

He had been a doctor for almost two decades, but he had never seen such an attentive husband.

He wished he could be joined at the hip with his wife and kept fussing over every minor detail.

If this was their first baby, it was normal for new fathers to overreact.

However, it was their second pregnancy.

Also, he even got lucky and had twins the first time around.

What was Dr. Lee thinking?

Were those twins not Mr. Lucas’ biological children?

Was that the reason Mr. Lucas kept overreacting about this pregnancy?

Dr. Lee looked at Michael a little differently now that the notion emerged in his mind.

However, something was wrong here. Dr. Lee recalled how much Mr. Lucas doted on the twins.

If they were not Mr. Lucas’ biological children, it made no sense for a man of his status to raise someone else’s children.

Even if he was fine with raising another man’s children, he did not have to do it personally.

They finally arrived at Queens City.

Michael cautiously helped Wendy down the car.

Wendy felt emotional when she saw the old residence.

Was this the place her mother grew up?

Although the valley was run down, it was obvious that the district used to flourish decades ago.

"I think that is your grandmother’s place..." Michael helped Wendy out of the car before pointing at the house nearby.

It was Michael’s first time here, but he did his homework since his wife insisted on coming, so he knew exactly where Wendy’s grandmother lived.

They walked up to the main entrance together to the tightly shut doors before Michael stepped forward and knocked.

A woman in her fifties answered the door. She scrutinized Michael and Wendy before asking, "Who are you looking for?"

"We would like to see Janine," said Michael.

Janine was Wendy’s grandmother’s name.

"And you are?" asked the woman quizzically as she frowned.

"I am Michael, and this is my wife, Wendy. She is Janine’s granddaughter," said Michael.

"I have never heard her say anything about a granddaughter." The woman frowned and looked at them suspiciously.

...

"Don’t tell me you are scammers?" The woman said firmly, "Why don’t you just leave?"

The moment she finished her sentence, she closed the door.

Michael and Wendy looked at each other when the woman accused them of being scammers.

They did not know how to react to being mistaken as scammers.

"Do you know Sylvia Stewart?" asked Michael hurriedly as he stopped her from closing the door.

The woman shook her head. "No, I don’t. Just leave, will you? If Mr. Stewart catches you here, you will be in trouble."

"We are not scammers. Just tell Janine that Sylvia’s daughter and son-in-law are here," said Michael. "We will be out here waiting."

The woman felt they were not scammers, and Wendy was also heavily pregnant, so she hesitated before she nodded.

Before long, she came out and said, "Madam doesn’t want to see you. Please leave."

Wendy was unsurprised when she heard this.

Her mother was unable to gain an audience with her grandmother the last time she tried.

Wendy held her belly as she said, "Please tell her I just want to see her. I won’t hold her up for long."

"Madam already said she does not want to see you. Do not put me on the spot," said the woman as she sighed. "I am just the help, so please leave."

The moment she finished her sentence, she shut the door.

Wendy looked at the tightly shut door before she turned to look at Michael. She did not know what to do.

Michael took out his phone and called Tom.

After the call got through, Michael got straight to his point. "Hi, Mr. Stewart, I am the CEO of MC Enterprise, Michael Lucas. I would like to work with you. Mind coming home so that we can discuss it?"

"Michael from MC Enterprise?" Tom was clearly in disbelief. He answered mockingly, "In that case, I am Christian Lucas."

The moment he finished his sentence, he hung up.

Well done. Michael was taken as a scammer yet again.

Tom threw the phone aside after hanging up and scoffed, "Do scammers pretend to be big shots these days? From the looks of it, things can get competitive even in their trade."

Michael reached his hand out and patted Wendy’s shoulder gently as he comforted her. "It’s fine. I will get my assistant to take care of this."

Michael called Mr. York and told him, "Call Tom Stewart and tell him to come home immediately."

Michael added, "Make sure he knows you are from MC Enterprise and you are the CEO’s assistant. Tell him the guy who just called him was not a con artist. Tell him it was really Michael Lucas, CEO of MC Enterprise."

Michael was mistaken as a con artist twice in a row, so he was determined to fix that.

After hanging up the phone, Michael supported Wendy as he said, "Why don’t you wait in the car? Your uncle will probably be back soon."

Wendy glanced at the tightly shut doors before she nodded. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

From the looks of it, it was the right choice to let Michael join her. Otherwise, they would never let her in.

The moment Janine heard Mary’s name, she refused to see Wendy.

It was no mean feat to convince her grandmother to let go of the past and forgive Mary.

Wendy could not help sighing.

Michael knew what Wendy was thinking, so he said, "Don’t worry. We won’t go back empty-handed."

"Don’t do anything rash," said Wendy. "Even if my uncle and grandmother do not forgive my mother, don’t do anything rash. We have to make them change their mind with sincerity and not brute force."

Wendy was worried Michael would force her grandmother and uncle to give in.

"That is not my style," said Michael as he smiled. "Don’t worry."

...

"Is that my uncle?" asked Wendy as she looked out the window at a man and reached her hand out and pushed Michael.

They had been waiting in the car for about thirty minutes, so Tom should be home by now.

Michael had never seen Tom before, but he had seen his photo.

Michael scrutinized the man before he finally confirmed it was Tom. He nodded before helping Wendy out of the car.

Tom had already walked up to the entrance.

He knocked on the door several times and waited for someone to answer it.

He instinctively turned his head when he sensed someone walking up behind him.

He opened his eyes wide in surprise when he saw a man helping a pregnant woman.

"Mr... Mr. Lucas?" Tom blinked before looking at Wendy once more. "Ms.

Stewart?"

Tom had assumed Michael was a con artist when he answered the phone.

After he had received a call from the CEO’s assistant from MC Enterprise, he confirmed Mr. York had genuinely called from the office line. He finally believed it was Michael who had called earlier.

Tom drove back home immediately.

Tom did not notice anyone standing outside his home when he got back and felt it was impossible that Michael would be interested in working with him.

He surprisingly ended up seeing Wendy and Michael in person.

It was normal that the maid did not know about Michael and Wendy. After all, the woman was in her fifties. Since she did not use the internet much, it was anticipated.

However, Tom certainly knew who they were.

Since Michael was the richest man in Lake City, he and his wife were both well-known, even in Queens City.

Tom rubbed his eyes in disbelief before opening them again when he realized he was genuinely not dreaming.

"Mr. Lucas, Ms. Stewart, how do you do? I... I am..." Tom was so nervous that he stammered.

"You are the CEO of Stewart Corporation, Tom," Michael helped to finish his sentence. "The business has a market value of approximately one hundred million.

Your main business is fashion. In recent years, you have had trouble progressing.

You have plans of getting your business publicly listed, but the business does not meet the standards for doing so."

"Yes, Mr. Lucas. You are right." Tom did not expect Michael to know a tiny company like the back of his hand. freēwēbnovel.com

Was Michael really here to work with him?

However, Stewart Corporation was much smaller than MC Enterprise. Why would Michael want to work with them?

"Mr. Lucas, are you really here to talk about partnership?" asked Tom bravely.

Meanwhile, the same maid answered the door.

The moment she saw Michael and Wendy, she frowned and said angrily, "Why are you still here?"

"How could you speak rudely?" Tom glared at the maid.

He turned to invite them in immediately. "Mr. Lucas, Ms. Stewart, this way, please."

Tom said to the maid, "Brew the best tea we have and bring it over."

The maid was stunned. Before she was able to wrap her mind around it, she automatically nodded before going to fetch some tea.

Wendy looked at Tom as he smiled ingratiatingly. She felt a little awkward as she said, "Uncle..." The moment Tom heard her calling him uncle, he chuckled awkwardly. "Ms. Stewart, I don’t quite get what you mean."

"My mother is Sylvia," said Wendy after sighing.

The smile on Tom’s face disappeared the moment Wendy brought up Sylvia.

Wendy was unsurprised by Tom’s reaction.

She said honestly, "We are here to see you and Granny. I want to talk to you about my mother."

If they were anyone else, Tom would have thrown them out right away.

However, it was Wendy and Michael.
