Chapter 657: I Only Care About Wendy

Just as Wendy was trying to think of another way to send messages to Michael, she heard gunshots.

The sounds were ear-piercing.

Both Wendy and Zen screamed out of fear.

Christian didn’t hesitate to take out a handgun after he heard the gunshots. He rolled down the window and shot the car beside his a couple of times.

"Stay down, Wendy!" Christian yelled.

Both Wendy and Zen were horrified by the gunshots, so they held their heads down.

As the driver sped, Wendy’s and Zen’s hearts raced as well.

Wendy closed her eyes, and images started to flood her mind... gasoline, theater, men in black, Christian, bullets...

Those images used to be blurry, but now, she could piece them all together.

She now remembered why she was pointing that gun at Christian right after he took that bullet for her.

Just as she was trying to remember more, she heard Christian asked her, "Are you okay, Wendy?"

The sound of the gunshots became faint. Wendy opened her eyes, sat back up on her seat, and looked at Christian. "I’m fine."

"Thank God," Christian said with relief. "We’ve already got out of the most dangerous area, and we’ve lost Christian’s people."

Upon hearing that, Wendy rolled down the window. She wanted to see what was happening outside the car.

"Don’t!" Christian yelled.

Wendy sat back after hearing Christian’s voice. Unfortunately, she didn’t manage to see anything outside.

"Even though we’ve lost them, they’re still chasing us. I don’t want you to get shot," Christian said as he signaled the driver to close the window.

"Sure," Wendy simply replied.

The driver drove as fast as he could.

Wendy couldn’t think of a better excuse, so she resorted to pressing her belly and said, "Christian, can we find a bathroom on our way? My stomach... It’s hurting again..."

"Hurting again?" Christian frowned. "What the hell did that restaurant put into the food?"

"I can’t hold it in anymore. I really need to use a bathroom." Wendy looked uncomfortable.

"How long will it take for us to get to the heliport?" Christian asked the driver.

"At least 35 minutes," the driver replied.

Christian had more than one private airport in Rheinsville City. After all, this was where he conducted his businesses.

However, some of his airports had been sealed by Interpol, so they couldn’t go there. Otherwise, he would be caught the second he set foot in there.

Christian had still two undiscovered airports.

One of them was the heliport they were headed to. As for the other one, it would take them at least an hour and a half to get there.

"Thirty-five minutes? I can’t hold it in for that long...," Wendy said, pretending to be in great discomfort.

"Wendy, how about you..."

Before Christian could finish his sentence, Wendy had figured out what he was going to say.

"No!" Wendy shook her head. "We’ve lost Michael’s people, haven’t we? We have a few minutes to spare for me to go to the bathroom."

...

"Wendy, this is a very crucial moment for all of us. There are no strangers in the car aside from our driver anyway. Don’t worry, none of us will take a peek," Christian assured her.

Wendy managed to stall Christian for more than 15 minutes in the restaurant. If it weren’t for her, those people wouldn’t have been able to figure out where they were and catch up with them.

Now that their route had been exposed, Christian would be in trouble if Michael’s and Evan’s people caught them. He could only be safe once he got into his helicopter.

"Could you just do it here, Wendy? For me?" Christian tried to convince Wendy again.

Hearing what Christian said, she knew that he wouldn’t allow the car to stop.

There was no way that she could just jump out of the car.

If she knew that they were going to the airport, she wouldn’t have left the road map in the bathroom as Michael would be misled if he saw that.

She wished that Michael wouldn’t find the map.

"Okay, I’ll try to hold it in for a bit longer," Wendy gave in.

In 35 minutes, they arrived at the heliport.

As she looked at the helicopter in front of her, she suddenly recollected another scene where she was standing in front of one while Christian was holding a knife against her neck. Michael was also in that scene, and he shot her leg.

"Let’s go, Wendy," Christian urged her to follow him as he saw her standing still in front of the helicopter.

Wendy looked afar, but, unfortunately, she didn’t see anything else. She had no choice but to get into the helicopter.

...

Michael didn’t head to Carlyle Street directly as he received a call from one of his subordinates who told him that Christian’s car was heading to the south.

Although many of those in the first group were killed in the gunfire, those who survived had been following Christian’s car, which was why Michael changed his route and headed directly to the south.

They followed Christian and arrived at one of his private airports.

As he looked at the empty heliport, Michael was annoyed. Standing with his arms akimbo, he yelled, "Didn’t you say that Christian’s private airports have all been sealed off? Why isn’t this place sealed off yet? How did he manage to get away?"

Evan sighed after seeing how angry Michael was. He tried to pacify him, "Calm down, Michael."

"Calm down? How am I supposed to calm down? It took us so long to finally figure out where Wendy is, yet we just let her slip away from us!" Michael responded hotly.

"You’ve assured me that Christian’s airports are all under your control and that he wouldn’t be able to get out of Rheinsville City, but he did! How did he get out?"

"Christian has been in Rheinsville City for more than a decade, and he is the biggest drug lord here. He had a lot of connections," Evan explained. "We’ve tried everything we could to freeze all his properties...

"Since he has fled, it also means that he has abandoned all his resources. Everything that he earned in the previous years is gone now. Even though he got away, it won’t be difficult for us to locate him. We can track his helicopter to locate him," Evan paused, observing Michael’s reaction, and quickly added, "And even if we can’t locate it, we can go searching the neighboring countries as there are only a handful of heliports.

"What matters is that we’ve found where Christian is based, and he won’t have any leverages against us once we get hold of his turf. We can even find out everyone involved in the drug dealings. Michael, victory is upon us."

...

None of what Evan had said could comfort Michael. He shook his head and said sternly, "I couldn’t care less about drug lords or their networks. The only thing I care about is Wendy. Do you understand?"

"Sure, I do. I..."

Before Evan finished, his phone started to ring.

He picked up his phone. Having heard what the person on the other side said, Evan responded, "Understood. Go and track the helicopter. Make sure no one gets hurt."

Evan then hung up.

He turned to Michael and said, "We’ve located Christian’s helicopter. It’s heading north at the moment, but we’re not sure of his exact destination. Do you want to stay in Rheinsville City or..."

Before Evan finished, Michael interrupted, "Was that even a question?"

Without hesitation, Michael got into his car.

"Where is the closest helicopter your people can find?" Michael asked Evan.

Michael couldn’t care less about anything in Rheinsville City. The only person he cared about was Wendy.

Evan immediately called one of his subordinates and asked him to search for Christian. Soon, he gave Michael the location of the helicopter that he found.

It took Michael 10 minutes to get to the location, which normally would’ve taken more than 20.

...

"Mr. Lucas, it seems that we’ve been located," the pilot informed Christian worriedly.

Christian wasn’t surprised to hear that.

Since his route had been exposed, it was only a matter of time until Michael and Evan found out where his private heliport was.

He had already suffered a tremendous loss after being forced to go back to Rheinsville City, and he had lost almost everything now that he was forced out of Rheinsville City.

"How far can we fly?" Christian asked the pilot.

"Around fifteen hundred miles," the pilot said.

"Fifteen hundred miles..." Christian picked up the map beside him and carefully read the information on the map.

After a while, he said, "Head to the northwest and land in Dellon. That’s at the border of Nolvania."

Nolvania was the closest country to them, albeit small.

Christian had two private properties in Nolvania. He reckoned that they could temporarily stay there until he figured out what his next step should be.

Wendy and Zen gave each other a weird look as they heard Christian’s arrangements.

Zen whispered to Wendy, "Wendy, why do I feel like something’s not right?"

Wendy sighed upon hearing that.

"Seriously? You didn’t realize something wrong until now?" she thought.

She patted Zen on the hand and raised her voice on purpose so that Christian could hear her. "What’s wrong?"

"Just...just..." Zen glimpsed at Christian who was sitting beside them and said, "Why are we running away? And why should we be so scared?"

"Didn’t Christian explain that already? We’re not running away. It’s because that drug lord Michael is chasing us, so Christian has to make sure that we’re safe first," Wendy said. "Drug lords these days are reckless. But it doesn’t matter. I’m sure that Michael will be arrested soon."

Christian felt relieved after hearing what Wendy had said.

It seemed that Wendy hadn’t become suspicious of him and that she still believed he was her husband.

"Sorry, Wendy. You might have to spend a couple of rough days with me," Christian said regretfully. frёewebηovel.cѳm

"Don’t worry. It isn’t your fault anyway. It’s all because of Michael." Wendy sighed, pretending to blame Michael. "That Michael guy is such a ghoul. I can’t wait until he gets arrested."
