Chapter 649: Memories

Wendy went upstairs and found Zen’s room. The room door was slightly ajar, so she reached out her hand to push it open.

Zen was lying on the bed without any quilt over her. As Wendy walked over, she could see the injuries and wounds on Zen’s body at a glance.

She had remembered that, earlier on, Christian had mentioned that Zen’s injuries were caused by Michael’s tortures.

Wendy frowned, her eyes full of concern. She stretched out her hand to lift Zen’s shirt. The wounds hidden under her clothes were even more shocking.

"How did you get injured so badly... " she muttered to herself chokingly. Her vision became blurry in an instant.

She did not have much of an impression on Michael Lucas. Christian had told her that he was a ruthless drug lord. And that was the only thing she had known about him.

"Zen... " Wendy whispered her name. She was feeling confused and wanted to see if she could wake Zen up.

When someone loses their memory, their minds will only recall certain scenes and images intermittently. However, those scenes were so blurry for Wendy that she could not tell whether they were real or not.

Now, the only thing that Wendy remembered was that Zen was her friend. She wanted to chat with Zen and wanted to know how much of Zen’s memory was left.

Maybe, the two of them could piece together some memories. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

Initially, Wendy just wanted to try her luck, but Zen woke up upon her whisper.

Wendy immediately called her again, "Zen... " Zen opened her eyes and saw Wendy. The corners of her lips were so dry they were flaking, and her voice was a little hoarse, "Wendy... " Wendy immediately turned around and poured her a glass of warm water. Then, she helped her sit up to drink it slowly.

"I... what happened to me?" Zen said with a pale face, "Where am I?"

"At Christian’s house," said Wendy.

"Christian?" Zen trembled as she whispered this name. Christian’s appearance emerged in her mind. As if she had remembered something, she frowned and asked, "Is it your husband, Christian Lucas?"

Wendy did not know how to answer Zen’s question. Christian seemed to be her husband, but she did not feel anything for him. Furthermore, she realized that she was subconsciously resistant to him.

For example, it is reasonable that if a husband picks food for his wife, she will consume it happily. However, when Christian did that for her, a voice rang in her mind shouting for her not to eat, that she must not eat the food.

But, according to Christian, they should have a pretty good relationship.

"Probably... I guess so... " said Wendy.

"Probably?" Zen frowned. "What does that even mean?"

Wendy sighed slightly. She looked at Zen and asked, "Zen, do you still have memories of my kidnapping? Also, do you remember how you got the injuries on your body?"

"Kidnapping? Injuries?" Zen only realized that she did not seem to remember what happened upon hearing what Wendy said.

Zen stretched out her hand and smacked herself on the head several times, only to find that she really could not remember anything. "How did this happen?"

"I don’t know what’s going on either. Christian told me that I was kidnapped by Michael Lucas, and you were also abducted while trying to save me. Even the injuries on your body were caused by him too," said Wendy. "He also told me that I was his wife."

...

"You are indeed his wife," Zen nodded. She looked at Wendy and said, "You are married to Christian Lucas. The two of you had such a good relationship. I have always envied you."

"You still remembered that I was his wife?" Wendy quickly asked. "Then, do you remember anything else between him and me?"

"How would I know the things that happened between the two of you?" said Zen.

"No, you should have memories of it," Wendy grabbed Zen’s hand nervously. She looked into her eyes and immediately asked, "Do you remember how I met him?"

"How am I supposed to know that?" Zen replied while smiling awkwardly.

"You really don’t remember?" Wendy looked even more confused now.

In her memory, she fell in love with Christian at first sight. Back then, Christian had visited her school as a guest speaker, and that was when she fell in love with him.

She had gone to the talk with Zen and even told Zen that she was in love with Christian. Why did Zen forget about this?

Zen shook her head in reply.

"Then, what do you remember?" Wendy asked again.

"I remember you! I also remember my parents, friends, and the person I loved... " Zen paused abruptly. She stretched out her hand to scratch her head, and said, "I don’t seem to have feelings for anyone in the past."

"Do you really have no recollection of how we fell into the hands of Michael Lucas at all?" Wendy asked again, still hoping for some answers.

To Wendy’s disappointment, Zen shook her head again. It seemed that both their memories of Michael Lucas were gone. Why did they have the same memory erased, the memory involving the same person?

According to Christian, Michael was in love with her and would do anything to make her his. Hence, he might have erased her memory. However, why would he erase Zen’s memory?

The biggest question for Wendy was what kind of a person Michael Lucas was. At present, all the information she had of him was from Christian.

"Wendy, what exactly happened?" Zen started to feel confused and fearful. "Why do I feel like there’s something wrong with you today?"

"I, too, forgot about a lot of things," said Wendy.

"Well, if they were unimportant matters, then it’s okay to just forget about them," Zen did not think that losing parts of her memory was a grave matter. She held Wendy’s hand, "It’s all right as long as we are all fine.

"Besides, you are happily married to Christian, and you guys are even expecting a child. After the child is born, you will make a happy family of three. How wonderful is that! You don’t know how much I envy you guys. How good would things be if I had a husband who loved me so much? A pity I’m still a single hag."

In Zen’s present memory, she could only remember that Christian was Wendy’s husband. She had forgotten about her feelings for Christian. In fact, she felt a lot more relaxed after losing her memory.

Zen did not care for the memories she had lost because she still remembered Wendy, her parents, and her friends. She felt that since she remembered all the people who were important to her, the parts that she forgot must not be of much importance.

However, Wendy had a different view. Although Zen also said that Christian was her husband, she still felt that the memories she had lost were perhaps very important to her.

She did not suspect that Zen had lied to her. But Zen lost her memory of Michael, just like her. So, was it possible that the present memories they had may not be real?

Wendy felt cold sweat trickling down her back as this thought emerged.

...

Wendy was not sure why she suddenly had such thoughts. But one thing she could be sure of was that she did not feel like a married couple with Christian.

She did not know why. But, whatever the reason, Wendy was determined to figure it out. She did not want to just continue with her life without parts of her memory.

She had a faint feeling that the memories she lost involved Michael. Christian did not want her to see Michael’s photo, so it meant that seeing his photo might trigger some of her memories.

It did not matter if Michael was, indeed, a ruthless drug lord like how Christian made him out to be. Nor did it matter if Christian was, indeed, looking out for her and did not want her to regain such unpleasant memories.

To Wendy, it was something that she wanted to know and was eager to remember.

"Zen, where’s your phone?" Wendy looked into Zen’s eyes and asked.

Zen was a little confused by Wendy’s question. That was an abrupt and random change of their conversation topic.

Zen looked around but her mobile phone was not in sight. Shaking her head, she said, "I don’t know either."

Wendy stood up and searched around the room. Zen’s phone was indeed nowhere in sight.

"Wait for me," said Wendy as she turned and left Zen’s room to get to her room.

Zen frowned at Wendy’s back view. She did not know what Wendy was planning to do.

Wendy rummaged around for her mobile phone when she returned to her room. She searched high and low across the room but to no avail.

Neither she nor Zen had mobile phones? Wendy returned to Zen’s room with suspicion written all over her face.

"Wendy, what’s the matter with you?" Zen looked at Wendy’s expression with concern and said, "Why do I feel like you are acting abnormal?" fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Zen realized that the word ’abnormal’ was inappropriate and quickly explained, "I’m not saying that your brain is abnormal. I just felt that you are behaving differently now.

"Wendy, what exactly are you worried or afraid of? Didn’t we both return safely?

Everything is fine now. You just have to stay home and take care of yourself and your baby until he, or she, is due."

That was right; everything was fine now. However, Wendy could not help but feel flustered.

Wendy stretched out her hand and rested it on her chest. "Zen, I feel perturbed somehow," she said.

"Did Christian hit you?" Zen asked, to which Wendy shook her head in reply.

"Then, did he despise you because he suspected that something happened during the period when you were abducted by Michael?"

Wendy shook her head again.

"Then, what is bothering you, really?" Zen sighed helplessly. She looked down at the wounds on her body that were causing her a lot of pain.

"Look at all my injuries; I’m not even panicking over them. Why are you anxious when you are perfectly fine? Wendy, is your pregnancy causing you to overthink?"

"No, Zen," Wendy frowned. "I don’t know how to tell you, but I just think that something is amiss."

"What could be amiss? I think you are suffering from persecutory delusions after being held captive by Michael Lucas. You should just be grateful and contented to have a husband like Christian," said Zen enviously.

Zen had repeatedly said that Christian was a very good husband to her. However, when Wendy asked her about things that happened between them, Zen could not recall anything.

Besides, Wendy remembered how she met Christian for the first time, and how she fell in love with him at first sight. Zen knew about it too. Why couldn’t she remember now?
