Chapter 611: I Didn’t Think You Would Believe in Such Things
"She’s a fake. She’ll be found out sooner or later," Zen consoled Wendy. "When Michael finds out, he will rescue us."
"I’m afraid he won’t realize until it’s too late and something bad has already happened." Wendy had a very bad feeling. "What I’m most worried about is that the fake Wendy will use my identity to create trouble.
Christian must have arranged for that woman to impersonate me. He and Michael had always hated each other.
What if Christian instructed that woman to poison Michael or worse, the children? fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
After all, she looks exactly like me and can take advantage of that to do many things.
"Also..." Wendy left her words hanging.
"Also, what?" Zen asked curiously.
Wendy was worried that the woman would seduce Michael and he would sleep with her. Things would get even more complicated if she got pregnant.
If Michael realized the woman was a fake after that, he would feel guilty towards Wendy and responsible for that woman.
By then, even if Michael had managed to free Wendy, how would they deal with that?
Wendy gave a helpless sigh. She did not voice her concerns to Zen. "Nothing, I’m just worried."
"Don’t worry. Michael is a smart man and he will quickly realize she is a fake."
Zen reassured Wendy again, "Besides, the Interpol were already after Christian before we were taken. It’s been a few days since then and they might already have leads on Christian’s location. He hasn’t been back for a few days. Perhaps he has been..."
"Been what?" Christian called out from a distance before Zen could finish her sentence.
Both women snapped their heads to the direction of the voice.
Christian walked toward them with a bag in his hand.
He put the bag on the table and glanced at Wendy, then Zen in turn. Waggling his brows, he commented, "You seem to be recovering well. You’re strong enough to come out for some sun already."
It had been four days since Christian left. Before he left, he had informed Wendy that he would be back in three days. Wendy had hoped that he would never return.
In four days, Christian had gone to two cities and located some of his past customers.
It was lucky that those customers just happened to lack a suitable partner and were still looking to trust and work with him.
As a result, Christian was able to successfully negotiate his first two deals after his return to the drug business.
"You were about to say perhaps I had already been arrested, right?" Christian smirked. His smile was sinister.
Christian took note of their glum and unsmiling faces watching him silently. He grinned, "Are you disappointed?"
"I am quite disappointed," Wendy answered with furrowed brows.
"In that case, let me share some even more disappointing news," Christian said as he looked at Wendy. "My trip was a big success. I will soon get a large sum of money. With that money, I will be able to boost my forces.
The better my business is, the more people I will have who are willing to lay down their lives for me. By then, even if the Interpol does catch up with me, they might not be able to do anything!"
"That day will never come," Wendy said positively. She wondered if the words were meant for Christian or for herself.
"Is it?" Christian did not get angry. Instead, his smile grew wider. "Wendy Stewart, not only will that day come, I will make sure you are by my side to witness my return to the top."
...
"Christian, aren’t you afraid of retribution?" Zen was furious as she looked at Christian smiling. "Do you know how many families you will destroy with the stuff you are selling?"
"I... destroy families?" Christian threw his head back and laughed. "The dregs of society do drugs because they have no self control. All I’m doing is helping to rid the world of useless trash. The world should be thankful to me instead. The scum that do drugs are nothing but a waste of oxygen!"
Wendy and Zen were unable to align with Christian’s view of things.
He was Christian. From a nobody till he became a drug lord was proof enough of his skewed morals.
He was perverse and evil, deviant and repulsive!
"You are the biggest piece of trash in this world!" Zen gritted through clenched teeth.
Christian’s eyes flickered at Zen’s words.
He raised his arm and slapped her forcefully across the cheek.
Zen, whose leg was already injured to begin with, staggered and fell from the force of the blow.
"Zen!" Wendy hurried over to help her friend up.
There was blood oozing from a cut on the corner of her lip.
"Are you crazy?" Wendy screamed at Christian as she supported Zen.
She led Zen back to the chair and made sure she was seated before looking for a piece of tissue and wiping the blood off her mouth. "Are you hurt?"
Zen tried her best to ignore the pain and shook her head.
She lifted her head and glared balefully at the man in front of her.
She must have been blind. How in the world had she fallen in love with a man like Christian?
If she could turn back time, she would not love him again.
"I hope you do not forget you are in my hands, at my mercy," Christian threatened.
"If you’re smart, you will not be provoking me on purpose."
"You’ve taken away our physical freedom. Are you limiting our freedom of speech as well?" Wendy snapped irritably.
Christian smiled and nodded.
"Christian!" Wendy spat his name angrily.
"I brought you a present," Christian knew Wendy was about to launch a tirade against him and deliberately interrupted her. "Open it and see if you like it."
"Do you think I will like a present from you?" Wendy sneered.
Seeing that Wendy made no move to open his gift, Christian calmly opened it himself.
Ignoring Wendy’s words, he said, "I bought this especially for you. This is a specialty pastry from River City, try it."
He took the pastry out from its packaging and held one piece out for Wendy to eat.
Wendy had no intention of eating it, of course, and smacked his hand away, causing the piece of pastry in his hand to drop onto the grass.
The grass was relatively clean, but the piece of pastry had rolled away after hitting the grass and some soil had gotten on it.
Christian’s gaze darkened. He glanced at Wendy, then at the pastry that was on the ground.
Bending over, he picked it up. He lifted his gaze and it fell upon Zen.
With a smile that did not reach his eyes, he said, "Since you refuse to eat it, she can have it instead."
Grabbing hold of Zen’s chin, he stuffed the pastry into her mouth in one fluid move.
"I brought it back all the way from River City. We can’t let it go to waste like that."
The sudden movement took Zen by surprise. As the flaky, dry pastry was forced into her mouth, Zen choked and began coughing.
The pain in her jaw was intense and she reached out to tap on Christian’s hand, trying to get him to release her.
...
"Are you crazy?" Wendy immediately stepped forward to help Zen.
However, she wasn’t strong either and could not pull him off her.
She could only watch helplessly as Zen choked on the pastry.
Taking a deep breath, Wendy had no choice but to give in. "I’ll eat, I’ll eat it, okay?"
Slightly breathless from trying to get Christian off Zen, she grabbed another piece of pastry from the tabletop and stuffed it into her mouth.
The piece was too big for her. She ended up choking on it and coughing as well.
Christian finally let go of Zen. He picked up a glass of juice and offered it to Wendy.
She didn’t want to drink from a glass he was holding and so she grabbed the glass from him. After taking a few big gulps of juice, she finally managed to swallow the pastry.
"Look at you, why did you eat so quickly? No one is fighting you for it." Christian’s expression suddenly turned tender.
It had been so abrupt that Wendy wondered if she had been imagining his meanness toward Zen earlier.
With his talent, it was a pity he did not go into acting as a career. ƒreewebɳovel.com
"You scoffed that piece down so quickly. I bet you didn’t get to savor its taste properly," Christian chided as he took another piece of pastry and offered it to Wendy.
Wendy stared at him as if she had seen a monster.
She took a deep breath and hesitated before taking the piece of pastry from him.
Under Christian’s watchful gaze, Wendy took a small bit of the pastry and chewed it carefully before swallowing it.
"How is it? Is it nice?" he asked, his expression expectant.
"It’s nice." Wendy nodded numbly.
The pastry was tasty, but she was not in the mood to enjoy it.
"I’m glad you liked it. I will buy you more next time." Christian had become strangely gentle all of a sudden.
He took out a little box from the bag. It looked like a jewelry box.
From the box, Christian took out a bracelet. It was made from a string of red beads.
Christian said, "This is a cinnabar bracelet that I got from an old monk for a hefty sum. He has been using it in his prayers for many years so the bracelet has its own spirituality.
The natives of River City believe in Buddhism and many people who pray at that temple there swear their prayers come true.
Look, the word ’peace’ is carved into this bead here. If it were not because I was in hurry to get back here, I would have gotten someone to carve your name on it as well."
"I didn’t think you would believe in such things," Wendy snickered.
She hadn’t expected a drug lord like Christian to believe in religion.
"I didn’t..." Christian did not finish his sentence.
He did not believe in anything. The only power he believed in was his own.
However, when he passed by a well-known Buddha statue that was rumored to grant many prayers, he could not help but stop.
Not only did he stop, he spent a substantial sum of money acquiring the bracelet.
For some reason, at that moment, all he wished was for Wendy to live a long peaceful life.
He was a drug lord living on the edge, but he wanted Wendy to be safe.
"I’ll put it on for you," Christian said.
Wendy saw his hand coming towards her and reflexively hid her own hand behind her. Regarding Christian frostily, she asked, " Do I have to wear it?"
Christian nodded and Wendy did not refuse him.
They were his prisoners. She and Zen would be the ones suffering if they kept antagonizing him.
As long as it was not something that was morally wrong, Wendy decided to simply let him have his way in the future.
"I’ll put it on myself." Wendy took the bracelet from Christian and put it on herself.
