Chapter 519: Hate You More
Zen’s voice and behavior were obviously not normal now.
However, Christian did not care about her condition at all. His aim today was just to bring her back home with him.
He didn’t care about Zen’s feelings or physical condition.
Clutching her belly tightly, Zen looked down and watched as the pool of blood between her legs grew bigger.
Her face was now so pale it looked colorless. Even so, Christian did not turn to look at her.
It was time Zen faced the truth. Christian did not love her at all. In fact, he did not care about her even one bit.
Over the past six years, Zen’s love for Christian had been purely one-sided.
At this moment, other than despair and hopelessness, Zen felt hatred rise in her.
She hated Christian. She hated herself even more.
Why did it take her up until now to see that Christian would never return her feelings?
Why did she try to hold out till she had the baby?
Since Christian cared about neither her nor the baby, there was no longer any reason for her to stay.
She took a deep breath, closing her eyes.
She slowly felt for the door lock with one hand.
Heartbroken, she said, "I hope we never meet again, Christian..." As her voice petered out, she unlocked the door.
The next instant, Zen used the last of the strength to open the car door.
Before Christian even figured out what Zen meant, her body was already halfway out of the car.
Reflexively, Christian reached out to grab hold of her.
However, it was too late. Zen had made up her mind to throw herself out of the vehicle.
His hand touched her, but when he closed his fist, he caught nothing but air.
"Stop the car! Stop!" Christian yelled frantically.
The driver had yet to realize that Zen had opened the door and jumped, but he immediately stepped on the brakes upon hearing Christian shout.
When the car suddenly braked, Christian was thrown forward and his forehead thumped heavily on the back of the front seat.
Ignoring the pain in his head, Christian leaped out of the car before it came to a complete stop.
He ran toward Zen where she had fallen on the road. She was lying in a pool of blood that was growing in size.
Noticing that there had been an accident, the surrounding cars slowed down and avoided them. As usual, the decreased speed caused a traffic jam. Some people even got out of their cars for a better look.
Oblivious to the looks, he supported Zen’s upper body in his arms.
By this time, Zen had gone numb from the overwhelming pain.
She tried to reach out to caress Christian’s face with one hand but realized she simply could not muster the strength. She was gradually losing her consciousness and try as she might, her vision could no longer make out the features of the face in front of hers.
Zen gave up trying after a while. Christian didn’t love her anyway. It wouldn’t matter even if she saw him or not.
"Chris... Christian..." Zen murmured, her voice almost inaudible.
Christian leaned down and put his ear next to her mouth so he could try and hear what Zen was saying.
"In... In my next... next life, I... I hope... I won’t..." Zen’s eyes closed before she could finish her sentence.
Even though Zen did not say it, Christian knew what she wanted to tell him.
She wanted to tell him she hoped she would not meet him again in her next life.
Zen had really lost all hope. She had loved Christian with all her heart, and yet, her dying wish had been to never see him again, even in the next life.
For some reason, Christian felt something wet on his cheeks. He reached out to touch the corners of his eyes. Were those tears?
No. Impossible.
He had not cried since he was ten. How could he be crying now?
He could not be crying. A grain of sand must have gotten into his eye.
...
"Take her to the hospital, quick!" Wendy yelled.
Wendy had been worried about Zen. She and Michael had followed Christian’s car.
To her dismay, something had happened.
She could not, however, figure out how Zen ended up falling out of the car and onto the road. Did she throw herself out because she had lost the will to live, or did she get into an argument with Christian?
However, it was not the time to be wondering about such things.
Christian could not hear anything the people around him were saying at all. All he heard were cacophonous voices that made no sense to him.
Michael acted quickly. He went to Christian, shoved him out of the way, and then carried Zen to his own car.
Christian finally snapped out of his dazed state when he saw Zen in Michael’s arms.
He immediately reached out to snatch Zen’s body. "Give her to me!"
"She needs to go to the hospital immediately. If you continue wasting time, it will be too late for her!" Michael shouted angrily.
"She’s mine. Even if she dies, it should be by my side!" Christian’s eyes were furiously red. He lunged at Michael, disregarding everything around him, and reached for Zen. Even if he didn’t love her, he would not allow something that was his to end up in someone else’s hands.
That’s right. To Christian, Zen was merely one of his possessions.
She could only leave when he didn’t want her anymore. As long as he wanted her, she was to remain by his side.
It had nothing to do with love, only possessiveness, and control.
"Christian, Zen is dying. Are you going to do nothing and just watch her die in front of you?" Wendy was in disbelief. At such a juncture, Christian still fought with them over Zen.
"I will take her to the hospital." Christian growled. "If you refuse to let go, you will be the one wasting time!"
Every second was now important to save Zen.
If they wasted any more time here fighting over her unconscious body and ended up unable to get her treatment in time, it would be catastrophic.
Christian obviously did not care about such things. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
However, Zen was Wendy’s friend, so Michael left the final decision to her.
"Are you really taking her to the hospital?" Wendy fired at Christian, "If you are, I’ll let you have her, but we’re coming with you!"
She was afraid that Christian would take Zen but not to the hospital. Other people might not do something like that, but Christian was a different matter.
"Whatever! I don’t care!" Christian’s reply was as good as agreeing to Wendy’s request.
Wendy nodded at Michael, signaling that he should let Christian have Zen.
If they continued fighting, Zen would be the one to suffer.
No matter what, the most important thing now was to take Zen to the hospital as soon as possible.
Christian went back to his car with Zen in his arms.
Wendy heaved a sigh of relief at that. She and Michael quickly got into Christian’s car as well.
The car then sped off on its way to the hospital.
Behind them, countless onlookers were now taking photographs and gossiping.
"Were those people Michael, Wendy and Christian? Am I mistaken?"
"It’s them. You might have been mistaken if it was just one of them, but all three?"
"What happened to them? Was there an accident?"
"It’s not an accident. I saw Zen fall from the car earlier. The car was moving ordinarily, how could a person fall out of it just like that?"
"Zen is seven or eight months pregnant. I wonder if anything will happen to her baby after that fall."
"I doubt it. That’s a moving car. She’ll be lucky if she herself does not die."
...
The car sped toward the hospital.
Although neither Michael nor Christian spoke, the driver’s forehead was beaded with sweat. He was terrified that Zen would die because he drove too slowly and he would get into trouble for it.
After what seemed like forever, they reached the hospital in the shortest time possible.
Before the car came to a complete stop, Christian threw the door open and carried Zen out, running straight for the emergency room.
"Wendy, slow down..." Michael called out after Wendy when he saw her rush after Christian. He fretted, "Be careful."
Wendy was pregnant too, and her health had always been relatively weak. He was worried that she would get into an accident and hurt herself or the baby by running too quickly.
Wendy, however, was too worried about Zen’s condition to remember that she herself was pregnant.
Michael grabbed Wendy’s hand, slowing her down. He told her, "Christian already brought Zen to the emergency room. There’s no need for us to rush, we’ll just make our way there slowly, okay?"
Reaching out to caress her belly with one hand, Wendy nodded to Michael’s words, but her steps did not slow down.
By the time they reached the emergency room, Zen was already being wheeled in.
Christian was standing in front of the large double doors that led into the treatment room, hands propped on his bent legs and panting. He watched the doors as they slowly closed tight.
Wendy stood in front of Christian and regarded him for a while before finally asking, "Can you tell us how Zen fell out of the car?"
Christian did not answer her.
He glanced to the side where there were chairs for waiting and walked over to them before sitting down in one.
Wendy felt sorry for Zen as she looked at Christian. She was in the emergency room fighting for her life, but Christian was just sitting there, seemingly unaffected.
"Zen is my friend and I think I have a right to demand that you tell me what happened between the two of you in the car. Otherwise, I will make a police report and let them handle the matter." Wendy’s words were meant as a threat.
She knew, however, that the police could not do anything to Christian, so she changed tactics. "Or I could call the reporters. I’m sure they will be very interested to know what happened."
Wasn’t Christian building up his reputation as a man who doted on his wife?
That plan would definitely be affected if reporters were called in.
"I’m actually quite curious..." Christian left his sentence hanging deliberately.
Wendy frowned. She knew he wanted her to question him. "Curious about what?"
"Zen did a lot of things for me, and many of them were against you. Why does it seem as if you are more worried about her than I am?" Christian’s mouth curved up slightly in a half-smile. "Do you not hate Zen for betraying you?"
Wendy had not anticipated such a question from Christian. She contemplated the answer for a few seconds before replying to him. "I hate her, of course, but you are the mastermind behind her betrayal. So, I hate you more. Besides, Zen doesn’t deserve to die for what she has done. If anyone has to die, it’s you."
"You hate me more... Ha-ha..." Christian laughed mockingly when he heard her answer.
No one knew who he was mocking though.
"I have to thank you for being so magnanimous on Zen’s behalf then," Christian said.
"I just want to know what happened between the two of you in the car, how did she fall out of the car?" Wendy asked grimly. "I do not want to repeat myself again."
"Would you believe me if I told you Zen jumped out of the car on her own?" Christian asked as he looked up at Wendy’s face as if waiting to see how she would react to his answer.
Wendy looked to Michael instead, as if asking him whether he believed Christian.
